Chapter 293 You still want to do business with us, the Carter family
"What did you say?"
His words hit Sebastian like a punch. Forgetting about Jasper, he spun around and grabbed Adeline's arms, almost hurting her.
"Adeline, you wouldn't do that, right?" he begged, his voice shaking.
"Was it my parents? Were they too harsh last night? Or is it something else? Please, talk to me!"
His grip tightened, making Adeline wince. She shook her head, trying to free herself.
"Sebastian, I'm fine. Really. I just..."
"Sebastian!"
Aurora's sharp voice cut through. Adeline turned, her heart sinking as a black BMW pulled up. Aurora and Andrew got out, looking furious.
"Sebastian, I knew it!" Aurora snapped, yanking him away from Adeline. "You promised you wouldn't contact her again! And here you are, defying me!"
Andrew glared at Adeline. "Miss Wilson, I thought you'd stay away after last night."
He sneered. "Clearly, I overestimated you. Some people can't resist wealth, can they? We may not be as rich as Mr. Foster, but the Carter name still has some pull."
"Dad!" Sebastian shouted, breaking free from his mom. He stood in front of Adeline, shielding her. "How can you say that? Adeline isn't like that! Those accusations are ridiculous!"
Sebastian's defense only made Aurora angrier. Her son, her only child, caught up with this woman! She had liked Adeline at first, but now she saw her as a gold-digger.
The memory of Mrs. Foster's words last night fueled her rage. This woman had even targeted her best friend's husband!
"Will you die if you don't get some action, you bitch?" Aurora spat, raising her hand to strike.
Before she could, a hand grabbed her wrist.
"Mrs. Carter," a cool voice said.
Jasper stood there, a smirk on his face. "Assaulting the Foster Group's lead jewelry designer at the company's entrance? Bold move."
Aurora stared, shocked. She hadn't expected Jasper to defend Adeline. He had trashed her character last night.
"Mrs. Carter," Jasper continued, letting go of her wrist. He towered over her, exuding dominance. "This isn't the place for your drama."
Aurora's face turned red with shame and anger. Sebastian, confused and angry, pulled his mom back.
"Mom, what's gotten into you?" he hissed, frustrated.
Andrew, looking furious, stepped forward. "Mr. Foster," he said, his voice low and dangerous, "shouldn't you be more worried about Miss Wilson's unprofessional behavior and messy personal life?"
Jasper chuckled, but there was no humor in it. "I'm not the one proposing marriage. Why should her personal life matter to me?"
His words left everyone stunned. Adeline felt a pang of hurt. So, he was only defending her because he didn't care? Because she meant nothing to him?
Her fingers tightened around her dress, her heart aching. She always knew Jasper saw her with indifference, maybe even amusement. But hearing it so bluntly was like a slap.
Andrew was momentarily speechless. Jasper, looking bored, turned to the angry couple.
"If I remember right, you've already decided not to welcome Miss Wilson into your family, haven't you?"
Aurora, her anger flaring up again, stood tall. "Absolutely! The Carter family will never accept her as a daughter-in-law!"
"Then let me get this straight," Jasper said, his gaze sharp and mocking. "If Miss Wilson isn't a candidate for your son, why are you here, causing a scene and slandering her?"
Aurora bristled. "Because she seduced my son! He wouldn't be here, defying us, if it weren't for her!"
"Actually," Jasper cut in smoothly, "Miss Wilson was discharged from the hospital this morning after an overnight stay for a shoulder injury. I was with her the whole time. She hasn't contacted Sebastian since last night. So, how could she have 'seduced' him?"
He turned to Sebastian, his gaze piercing. "Did Miss Wilson call you here, Sebastian?"
Sebastian, stunned for a moment, quickly caught on. "No! Adeline didn't contact me. I came here on my own."
A satisfied smirk appeared on Jasper's lips. "There you have it, Mr. and Mrs. Carter. What you need to do is control your own son, not harass my employee."
He glanced at Adeline, his tone softening a bit. "Go inside, Miss Wilson."
Adeline, her emotions in turmoil, hesitated, looking at Sebastian's conflicted face. Then, with a final look, she walked into the Foster Group building, the glass doors closing behind her like a shield.
Aurora watched her go, barely containing her fury. But even in her anger, she saw the unspoken threat in Jasper's stance, the effortless power he held.
"Ryan," Jasper called out, his voice cool and authoritative.
A tall, well-dressed man appeared at his side.
"Yes, Mr. Foster?"
"Station Tim and Tom at the entrance," Jasper instructed, stretching lazily. "Make sure the building's security is tight. I won't tolerate any more disruptions today, especially from unwelcome visitors."
The message was clear. Aurora's face paled, her anger momentarily forgotten. Andrew, however, clenched his fists, his rage boiling over.
"Jasper!" he roared, his voice thick with fury. "You dare insult us, threaten us on your own doorstep? Have you forgotten the Carter family's standing in this city? We supply those precious stones you need! Do you really want to risk our business partnership over this... this woman?"
