Chapter 822 Let Him Never Get Better!

"It was a sniper, shot from the mountain to the southeast. It's too far to track."

One of the men in black next to David lowered his head and said, "We came here in a rush tonight and didn't bring any defense gear. We didn't spot anyone aiming at us earlier."

He was talking to both David and Adeline.

Adeline, clutching Lucy's lifeless body, looked up and glared at Brandon. Her gut told her Lucy's death was definitely Brandon's doing.

Brandon squinted as Adeline stared him down. He had already figured Lucy was unreliable. When Jasper showed up earlier, he secretly contacted the sniper. Otherwise, his last move would have been exposed tonight.

But facing Adeline's angry gaze, Brandon still furrowed his brows slightly. "It wasn't me."

"Sure, I asked her to do some things, but if I wanted to kill her to keep her quiet, I would've done it when she spilled what Daisy and I asked her to do."

Brandon spoke with feigned sincerity, pretending to analyze the situation seriously. "Lucy just mentioned your and Jasper's deceased child. The person who killed her to silence her must be connected to your child."

He glanced around at everyone in the yard. "Lucy said she took money from three people: me, Oliver, and Jasper."

Finally, he fixed his gaze on Oliver. "Blake never wanted Adeline and Jasper's child to be born or stay with Adeline, right? If I remember correctly, Blake also has special bodyguards and snipers. Where are they tonight?"

With a few words, Brandon shifted the suspicion of killing Lucy onto Oliver.

Oliver curled his lips into a cold smile. He knew exactly what Brandon had done, even swapping the child. And now Brandon dared to slander him?

"To kill a mere servant, would I need to use a sniper out of guilt?" Oliver sneered. "If I wanted to kill her to keep her quiet, I would've done it directly. Why would I need David's people to help?"

Brandon squinted his eyes and then turned his gaze to Jasper. Jasper didn't bother to argue with him. He walked directly to Adeline and extended his hand to her. "I'm going to dig something up under the cherry blossom tree. Want to join me?"

Adeline, lost in grief while holding Lucy's body, looked up. She stared at Jasper for a few minutes before understanding his intention. Adeline nodded fiercely and extended her hand to him. "Okay."

Jasper was going to dig up the child's body under the cherry blossom tree. Even if the child had decomposed in a month, they could still extract DNA. Once verified, they would know if the child was theirs and if Lucy had lied.

Jasper held Adeline's hand and pulled her up from the ground. Initially, he wanted to hold her hand and walk to the cherry blossom tree together. But as soon as they stood up, Adeline silently let go of his hand and retreated to a safe distance from him.

After she let go, Jasper's large hand hung in mid-air. A trace of loneliness appeared in Jasper's eyes. He smiled bitterly to himself before following Adeline out the door.

Linda saw this and quickly followed, but David stopped her after two steps. Linda's thin face showed a cold gaze. "I want to talk to you."

Linda turned her face away. "Move, I have nothing to say to you."

She bypassed him and chased after Adeline and Jasper. But after a couple of steps, David grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms.

"What, you'd rather be a nuisance than talk to me?" he said.

Linda struggled violently. David smirked, watching her desperate attempts to break free. He picked her up and carried her to the car. One of his subordinates opened the door, and David tossed her inside before climbing in himself. The door slammed shut.

From a distance, Oliver could still hear Linda's angry shouts from inside the car. He suddenly thought of Mia—the woman who loved wearing red, cursed like a sailor, and was clumsy with kids. She'd throw herself into the rain to catch a cold just because the child had one. Despite being in her twenties, sometimes she seemed less mature than Nova.

"Let's go back," Daisy whispered to Brandon, leaning close to his ear. "Let's leave while they're all busy."

Brandon nodded and tried to sneak away with Daisy.

"Who said no one is watching you?" Oliver sneered, walking over to them. "Lucy has been punished. What about you two?"

He stood in front of Brandon and Daisy, his gaze cold as ice. "Don't think that just because Howard isn't here, no one can deal with you."

Oliver shook his phone. "I recorded everything the servant and Terry said. When Howard's condition improves, I'll show him all of this."

He wanted Howard to see clearly what his beloved daughter and son-in-law had done to Zara.

"Blake, we're all family. Don't be so ruthless," Brandon pleaded. He knew that if Howard saw this, he would never help the Torres family again. The Torres family was already struggling under Jasper's attacks, relying on the Phoebe family's assistance. If the Phoebe family withdrew their support, the Torres family would go bankrupt, and Brandon would end up in jail.

"Family?" Oliver sneered. "You mean I'm family to someone who hurt my mother and wanted her to die a painful death? Sorry, I can't accept that!"

Brandon pursed his lips. "Blake, I did ask Lucy to apply that ointment to your mother, but I didn't intend for her to suffer." He sighed, his eyes full of helplessness. "You know the Phoebe Group's situation. You saw the contract I gave Adeline tonight. The Foster family has pushed the Phoebe and Torres families to the brink, and Adeline still has feelings for Jasper. So I used some tactics to make Adeline see Jasper's true nature."

Oliver sneered. "Adeline didn't see Jasper's true nature, but she saw your and Daisy's cruel hearts." He put away his phone. "Don't waste your efforts. I'm not dealing with you now because Howard's health is poor, and I don't want to stress him. When he's better, I'll make sure he sees what kind of people you are!"

After speaking, Oliver walked away. Watching him leave, Daisy stomped her feet in frustration.

"Brandon, what do we do? We can't let Howard see this! Even though he doesn't say it, I've seen over the years that he cares deeply for Zara!" Daisy became more anxious and eventually started crying. "We shouldn't have come tonight! What do we do now?"

"Don't worry," Brandon said, squinting his eyes. "Oliver said he'll tell Howard when he's better. So we'll make sure he never gets better!"
