Chapter 485 Drinking Despite Having Poor Alcohol Tolerance
Violet was left speechless by Ethan's comeback.
Finally, she slammed her fork down on the table. "Ethan, whose side are you on? Why do you keep defending Jasper?"
Ethan let out a sigh. "I'm saying this because I don't want your friend to get played."
He glanced at Adeline, who looked troubled, hesitated for a bit, and then finally spoke up. "I'm sure Jasper did all this because of a woman named Amelia when Luna became the chief designer. My colleague is Amelia's cousin, and he's her only relative in Radiance Springs. Over half a month ago, when Amelia got fired from the Foster Group, she got some money to leave town. My colleague asked me to help drive her out of Radiance Springs."
Ethan's words made Adeline look up instinctively.
She bit her lip. "And then?"
Ethan sighed again. "I remember it clearly; the day the news about you bullying Luna broke online, someone contacted my colleague to find Amelia. My colleague wanted me to help pick her up from outside the city. Later, the other party said they could drive over, and my colleague just needed to lead the way, so I didn't go."
Adeline bit her lip again, her hands twisting together under the table.
She asked, "Did they look for Amelia in the morning or at night?"
"It was noon," Ethan answered firmly. "My colleague got the call right after we had lunch together; I remember it clearly."
Adeline silently gritted her teeth.
If she remembered correctly, a few days ago, the videos about her bullying Luna appeared online around eleven in the morning. It also included the video of her "bullying" Amelia from more than half a month ago. And at that time, Jasper asked her to give up the chief designer position.
It was in the evening. That day, Jasper said that letting Luna replace her was a result of his discussion with Jerry, and he said he would help her find a way.
At that time, Adeline was so angry she didn't take Jasper's words seriously.
If Jasper really did what he said, to prevent Luna from spending too much time on work, he sent the collected evidence to Mia. Then why would he simultaneously collect evidence and let Luna take her place? Such a contradictory act might be done by others, but Jasper would never commit to it.
Thinking of this, Adeline felt her head buzzing.
If what Jasper said on the phone before was all lies, then what was his real purpose? Was it really to maintain Adeline's dignity and character? How could that be possible? How could Jasper risk having his Ms. Jones be insulted and scorned to maintain the reputation of Adeline, someone he had disliked for many years?
Seeing Adeline's conflicted face, Violet helplessly glared at Ethan and kept putting food on Adeline's plate. "Eat your meal; don't mind him. Ethan always likes to say things that make others uncomfortable; don't take it seriously. Finish your meal and get a good night's sleep; everything will be over!"
Adeline pursed her lips and finally sighed deeply.
She really did need a good night's sleep and some rest.
Thinking of this, Adeline shook her head, shook off those messy thoughts, picked up her fork, and started eating seriously.
After the meal, Violet drove Ethan away, then pulled Adeline back to the sofa, comforting her for a while and cursing Jasper for a while.
In the end, both Violet and Adeline were exhausted and fell asleep on the sofa together.
When Adeline woke up again, it was the phone that woke her.
She groggily yawned and picked up the phone. "Hello?"
Lucia's excited voice came from the other end. "Adeline, it's so early, and you're already resting?"
Lucia said, "We just got off work. Today, Mr. Foster gave everyone who participated in the team competition a bonus of tens of thousands of dollars. Everyone is happy; we're planning to have a celebration party tonight. Last night you said you had something to do and just ate a few bites before leaving. You should be free tonight, right? I'll send you the address. Come join us for dinner; you can regard it as a final farewell!"
Lucia's words made it impossible for Adeline to refuse.
Adeline did indeed need to celebrate with everyone properly.
So Adeline yawned. "Send me the address; I'll head over now."
Lucia nodded. "Great!"
After getting Adeline's agreement, Lucia excitedly hung up the phone.
Soon, the address for the celebration party was sent to Adeline's phone.
Violet, who was also woken up by the phone, yawned and shifted her position to keep sleeping. She softly advised, "Your drinking habits aren't great, and you're in a bad mood today. Try not to drink too much when you get there. Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll spill all your history with Jasper."
Adeline smiled while getting up and tidying her hair and clothes. "I know."
Adeline hadn't planned on drinking anyway.
Drinking caused trouble; Adeline had experienced that too many times.
Tonight, she just wanted to have a good time with everyone.
"Adeline, thank you. Without you, our team wouldn't have succeeded!"
"Adeline, I never imagined you were the famous Master Moon. Being your colleague for a while is something I can brag about for a lifetime!"
"Adeline, I want to apologize for badmouthing you because I received some small favors from Luna."
As soon as Adeline walked in, she was surrounded by everyone's toasts.
She helplessly declined while sitting down next to Lucia.
Although Adeline kept saying she didn't want to drink, everyone was too enthusiastic, and she didn't have the heart to refuse.
Finally, she took a deep breath, picked up a glass, and stood up. "I'm not a big drinker; one glass gets me drunk.. But since everyone is happy tonight, I'll drink this one glass. After this, you can toast each other; don't come to me anymore."
With that, Adeline downed the glass in one go.
Adeline's toast pushed the celebration's atmosphere to its peak.
After she drank, everyone started complimenting and toasting each other.
Adeline squinted her eyes, leaning back on the sofa, smiling as she watched everyone.
In fact, the drink she just had was tampered with by Lucia.
Although it looked like red wine, it was actually fruit juice with a bit of alcohol.
Lucia knew Adeline couldn't handle alcohol, so Lucia made a drink that tasted like alcohol, making people think Adeline drank a lot, but it wouldn't actually get her drunk.
Adeline whispered a thank you to Lucia and pretended to be drunk while watching the young people drink.
The room was so lively that Adeline felt like she was back in her younger days.
She didn't know how much time had passed; when the drinking in the room reached a fever pitch, the door opened.
A man in black walked in elegantly.
The room instantly fell silent.
Adeline squinted, continuing to pretend to be drunk, and watched Jasper walk in. What was he doing here?
"Mr. Foster." Seeing Jasper walk straight towards Adeline, Lucia quickly bit her lip and whispered, "Adeline is drunk."
"I know." Jasper coldly said, frowning as he looked at Adeline, who was leaning on the sofa, reeking of alcohol.
Jasper said, "The kids can't sleep without her. I'm here to take her home."
With that, he took off his suit jacket, covered Adeline with it, and picked her up, striding out of the room.
Being held by Jasper, Adeline's brows furrowed tightly.
Before coming here, Adeline had already informed Blake and Lauren; her kids had comforted her, telling her to have fun and relieve some stress. How could they let Jasper take her home?
Jasper muttered, "Despite your poor drinking habits, you still indulge in alcohol."
Just as Adeline was trying to figure it out, Jasper, who was holding her, sighed almost imperceptibly. "Maybe my words today were really too hurtful. You shouldn't be sad because of someone like me."
