Chapter 859 As Selfish as Always
The next morning, Ryan drove to Giselle's hometown to pick up her parents and bring them to Oceancrest City.
When Jasper, the president of the Foster Group's assistant, arrived to pick them up, Giselle's parents were thrilled.
"Ryan, Giselle called a few days ago and said she and Mr. Foster were getting closer. Is that true?"
"As the president's assistant, you must be super busy. Is Giselle the first person in the company to have the president's assistant pick up her parents from their hometown?"
"What is Giselle doing now? Why can't we reach her on the phone?"
"Why did Mr. Foster have you bring us to Oceancrest City? What's going on?"
During the drive, Giselle's parents bombarded Ryan with questions.
Ryan couldn't bring himself to tell them the truth about Giselle's death. He dodged their questions and silently sped up.
Soon, they arrived at the police station.
As Ryan helped the elderly couple out of the car, they sensed something was wrong.
They grabbed Ryan's arm, anxiously asking.
"Ryan, why are we at the police station?"
"Where's Giselle?"
"Did something happen to Giselle?"
Ryan bit his lip, unable to meet their eyes. "Let's go inside first, and you'll find out."
The more he tried to evade, the more anxious they became.
"Ryan, what's going on?"
"Where is Giselle?"
"Why are we at the police station? We won't go in!"
"Excuse me."
A deep male voice came from inside the police station.
They turned their heads.
Standing at the entrance, dressed in black, was a man they had seen on TV before.
Jasper, the president of the Foster Group!
Giselle's parents exchanged a glance and quickly let go of Ryan.
Giselle's father took a deep breath, straightened his clothes, and walked solemnly towards Jasper.
"Mr. Foster, hello, I'm Giselle's father, Yosef Montague!"
"This morning, your assistant came to our house, saying there was an urgent matter with Giselle."
"But he didn't take us to the Foster Group or Giselle's place. Instead, he brought us directly to the police station!"
"Is something wrong with Giselle?"
He took a deep breath, earnestly looking at Jasper's face.
"Giselle is a timid girl, she would never do anything wrong. If she did, she must have been wronged!"
"Please believe in her!"
Seeing Yosef's worried face, Jasper's eyes darkened.
He was a father too.
Yosef's current state made him feel a pang of sympathy.
Jasper sighed, looking deeply at the elderly couple in front of him.
"Please follow me."
"You'll understand what happened once you see Giselle."
The couple exchanged a glance and respectfully followed Jasper inside.
They walked through the corridor to a small room at the end.
"Giselle!"
"My Giselle!"
Upon seeing Giselle's cold body lying on the bed, the elderly couple burst into heart-wrenching cries.
Jasper and Ryan stood silently by their side.
Oliver parked his car and walked into the police station, hearing the cries echoing through the halls.
He entered the main area, filling out Adeline's application form, and glanced towards the end of the corridor.
"Why are they crying so early in the morning?"
The officer sighed, lowering his voice.
"It's about your sister's case. The victim's family arrived this morning."
"Apparently, she was their only child, their pride and joy. The parents are old and in poor health."
The officer sighed again.
"It's really sad."
Oliver's hand paused slightly.
After a moment, he sighed and continued filling out the form.
By the time he finished, Giselle's parents had stopped crying.
As Oliver walked out, he saw Jasper leading Giselle's parents to confirm the case with the police.
The elderly couple needed Jasper and Ryan's support to walk.
Yosef clung to Jasper's arm.
"Mr. Foster, Giselle admired you when she was alive. Now that she's gone, can I tell people she was your girlfriend? Let her leave with some dignity."
"Mr. Foster, Giselle died near you. You must help us bring the real culprit to justice!"
Listening to Yosef's words, Jasper took a deep breath, about to say something when he saw Oliver approaching.
Jasper coldly curled his lips.
"Mr. Montague, don't worry."
"I will ensure the culprit is punished and won't escape justice."
After speaking, he glanced deeply at Oliver.
Oliver squinted, ignoring him, and walked towards where Adeline was held.
Jasper smirked coldly and led Giselle's parents into the police office.
Oliver, guided by an officer, went to the visitation room.
Adeline was brought out.
She quietly sat across from him, forcing a smile.
Oliver sighed, looking steadily at Adeline.
"Originally, Dad and I wanted Jasper to help convince Giselle's parents not to pursue your responsibility."
"After all, there was an unknown fingerprint on the murder weapon."
He sighed heavily.
"Jasper didn't agree."
"Not only did he refuse, but he also wants Giselle's parents to insist you're the killer, keeping you locked up."
"So you might have to stay here a bit longer."
"But don't worry, Dad and I will keep investigating the real culprit. They won't hide for long."
Adeline bit her lip, remaining silent for a long time before looking up.
"Did Jasper really say that?"
No matter what, she didn't want to believe Jasper would actively try to imprison her.
"Yes."
Oliver exhaled deeply.
"He gave us two choices. one, you get released but must resign from the Phoebe Group, cut ties with the Phoebe family, and go back to Radiance Springs with him, never returning."
"The other is to stay in prison with a murder charge."
His words made Adeline's heart sink.
She closed her eyes, a bitter smile on her lips.
To make her return to Radiance Springs, he went to great lengths.
He must know she isn't the killer.
But to force her back, he would rather falsely accuse her, wrongfully imprison her.
He is as selfish as ever.
