Chapter 400 Cherished Like Life
Adeline balled up her fists so tight her knuckles turned white.
She fought the urge to grab something off the table and chuck it at them. "Well, thanks a bunch, Mr. Foster, for your oh-so-generous favor."
With that, Adeline snatched a glass of red wine from the table and chugged it right in front of Jasper.
After downing it, she slammed the wine bottle back on the table. "I’m done. You two do whatever you want."
"Oh, and by the way," she turned and flashed a sly smile at Luna. "Ms. Jones here said she wanted to be my apprentice. But I gotta say, I don’t think I’ll ever get such a 'talented' and 'hardworking' apprentice like Ms. Jones. I don’t take in folks who lack talent and don’t put in the effort."
"Later." With that, Adeline spun around and walked off with a brisk pace.
Jasper just sat there, watching her leave, his eyes narrowing a bit.
"Looks like Miss Wilson really hates me now," Luna said, trying to hide the jealousy and bitterness in her eyes, looking all innocent and hurt. "Jasper, am I really untalented and lazy?"
Luna’s voice was all pitiful and weak. "I think I’ve been working super hard."
Hearing Luna’s almost tearful voice, Jasper sighed and tried to comfort her gently, "You’ve done great. Don’t let her get to you."
Listening to Jasper’s comforting words, Adeline found it laughable that she had once been swayed by Jason’s words.
How could Jasper be the kind of person Jason described? She had known him for years and had long seen his true colors.
After leaving Jasper, Adeline headed backstage to find Mia.
Right then, Mia was sitting in a chair backstage, staring at her phone messages in a daze.
Next to her, Lucia was trying to comfort her. "I know you want to help Adeline, but Mia, you used to be a journalist. You should know that going up against Jasper in Radiance Springs is a losing battle."
"Even if you’re now the third richest person in Radiance Springs, your wealth and power don’t match up to Jasper’s."
"Don’t do this again. Adeline’s problems aren’t something we can handle."
Mia closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh. "Adeline has helped me so many times; I just wanted to give her some money."
Mia felt suffocated. "Why does Jasper have to be so unreasonable?"
"Because he’s never been a reasonable guy," Adeline said with a faint smile, cutting into their conversation.
Mia and Lucia both looked up.
Adeline still had a slight whiff of alcohol on her. She walked over with a smile and took Mia’s hand. "I appreciate you wanting to help me."
"But in the future, don’t do such foolish things."
"My past help to you was driven by my own reasons and wasn’t entirely out of pure kindness; so, you don’t need to feel grateful."
With that, Adeline took a deep breath and glanced at the time. "It’s late; I should head home. Lauren and Blake won’t go to bed until I get back."
Mia sighed. Even though she didn’t agree with Adeline’s words, there was really very little she could do for her right now.
Tonight, she had truly seen Jasper’s power and terror.
Even if she wanted to help Adeline, she had to think about herself and the other employees of the White Group.
Jasper was someone she really couldn't mess with.
After leaving the hotel, Adeline took a deep breath and walked to the curb to flag down a cab.
Maybe it was just bad luck, but she stood there for almost ten minutes without a single taxi passing by.
Finally, a black car pulled up in front of her.
The window rolled down, and there was Jason, grinning. "Need a lift?"
Adeline checked the time; it was already past nine at night.
If she didn’t get back soon, it would really mess up Blake and Lauren’s bedtime.
She hesitated for a second, then opened the car door and got in.
"Tonight was wild," Jason said from the passenger seat, arms crossed, sighing. "The richest guy in Radiance Springs nearly bankrupted the White Group in under ten minutes.."
Jason kept going, "If it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t have seen such a show in my life."
Adeline smirked and glanced at Jason in the rearview mirror. "If you announce you're lending me money now, you might get to experience it firsthand."
"Forget it." Jason quickly waved his hand. "I don’t want to be a target; it’s too much of a hassle."
He then looked ahead calmly. "Jasper using this method against the White family tonight shows he won’t let you go, no matter what."
After Jason finished, he gave Adeline a serious look. "For your own good and your friends', don’t even think about running away again."
Adeline sneered. "What did I do to deserve staying by Jasper’s side, watching him flaunt his love with Ms. Jones in front of me?"
Adeline’s words left Jason momentarily speechless.
He cleared his throat. "Jasper keeping you around isn’t necessarily to make you watch him and Luna being all lovey-dovey."
"Besides, his thing with Luna isn’t what you think."
If it weren’t for Blake, if it weren’t because they had searched the world and only found Luna as a match for Blake, Jasper wouldn’t be treating Luna so well now.
But these were things Jason couldn’t tell Adeline.
He sighed. "One day, you’ll get where Jasper’s coming from."
Adeline asked, "And now?"
Jason sighed. "Now you’d better not piss off Luna."
"Right now, Luna is Jasper’s everything."
"Even you can’t hurt Luna or upset her."
Luna’s weird illness meant that any emotional swings could mess with her physical indicators, which could mess up the bone marrow transplant.
Until Luna could actually do the bone marrow transplant for Blake, Luna was Jasper’s most precious person.
"I know." Adeline turned her face to look at the scenery outside the car window, a mocking smile on her lips.
"But Jasper and Luna have only known each other for less than three days, right?"
"In three days, he can treat Luna like she’s his everything."
"Today, I just had a little spat with Luna outside the venue, but he insisted on keeping me around to be bullied by her."
She turned her cold gaze to Jason. "Is that the Jasper you told me about, who always keeps me in his heart?"
