Chapter 774 I Will Never Return Again
Oliver narrowed his eyes slightly.
The Jasper standing before him, asking about his mother Zara's condition, looked genuinely concerned, without a trace of deceit.
He exhaled lightly, "She barely made it."
"But..." Oliver raised his eyes, carefully observing Jasper's expression. "She's in a coma, can't speak or move."
"The doctors say the chances of a miracle are slim."
Jasper was momentarily stunned.
After a brief pause, he closed his eyes. "As long as she's alive, there's hope."
Jasper's words made Oliver's eyebrows furrow slightly.
He had said something similar to Adeline not long ago.
He looked at Jasper's expression and sighed softly.
He had never seen a murder suspect so hopeful that the victim would survive.
Either Jasper really wasn't the killer, or his acting was just that good.
Oliver preferred to believe the former.
So he looked at Jasper and asked, "You said it was Daisy who attacked your mother?"
"Yes."
Jasper opened his eyes, his deep voice calm. "When I got back to the hospital room the second time, Mrs. Phoebe already had that fruit knife in her."
"After I called the doctor, she used her last bit of strength to tell me that the person who attacked her was Daisy, whom she had raised for over twenty years but never fully trusted."
Oliver squinted. "So you came to report it to the police?"
Jasper nodded with a slight smile. "Of course."
Taking a deep breath, Oliver gave Jasper a cold look. "Since David is your friend, he could have protected you in Oceancrest City. You could have had him help you leave the city... Why come to the police station yourself and risk being arrested as a suspect? Do you realize..."
"I know."
Jasper interrupted Oliver indifferently. "I know that once I came to the police station, the Phoebe family and the Torres family would go all out to pin the crime on me."
"But I still chose to come."
Jasper clasped his hands together, a faint smile on his lips. "I came here willingly as a suspect. Since Adeline is here, and I've already started expanding the Foster Group's market in Oceancrest City... I don't plan on leaving."
He looked at Oliver's face and spoke slowly, "Not only do I want to become a suspect willingly, but I also want to walk out of this police station with a clear name. Oceancrest City used to be dominated by the Phoebe family and the Torres family. But starting today, that's going to change."
"Daring to frame me, slander me, and kill Adeline's biological mother—I'll avenge this openly and include Mrs. Phoebe's share as well."
With that, Jasper stood up. "Take good care of Adeline and her unborn child for me."
"Before the child is born, I won't target the Phoebe family. Let Howard enjoy these good days while they last."
With those words, Jasper turned and left the visiting room.
Oliver sat in his seat, watching Jasper's departing figure, his eyes narrowing slightly.
The Jasper he had known before was always desperate and sorrowful for Adeline, weak and sad.
But this cold and aloof figure before him made Oliver feel like he had never truly understood Jasper... Was this cold and ruthless person the real Jasper?
Oliver composed himself and had just stepped out of the police station when he ran into Howard and Daisy, who had just gotten out of their car.
Howard's face immediately darkened upon seeing Oliver.
Howard strode over and swung a slap at Oliver. "What are you doing here? Are you here to see Jasper and help him get off the hook?"
Oliver caught Howard's hand in mid-air.
Gripping Howard's wrist tightly, Oliver's lips curled into a cold smile. "What I do and who I visit is none of your business."
With that, he flung Howard's hand away and cast a cold glance at Daisy standing behind Howard. "I've heard of people recognizing thieves as fathers, but never as daughters. Howard, you'll regret bringing this woman into your life sooner or later."
Oliver's words made Howard's face flush with anger.
"If I don't bring Daisy, who should I bring? You, who sides with outsiders?"
He glared at Oliver furiously. "From today on, you don't need to work at the Phoebe Group anymore. I'm afraid you'll use our family's assets to save your cousin Jasper!"
At this, Daisy quickly stepped forward and took Howard's arm, gently soothing his heaving chest. "Father, don't be so angry."
"Oliver might just be visiting Jasper because they're relatives... It's just Oliver being loyal. Don't be so upset."
"Oliver is your biological son, after all. He shares your blood, unlike me, an outsider... No matter how much I care for you and mother, I'm not part of the Phoebe family, but Oliver is different."
Daisy's words deepened Howard's anger.
He glared coldly at Oliver. "What good is being my biological son if all they think about is the Foster family? They don't care about the Phoebe family at all!"
"They've forgotten how their uncle, my brother Wilford, died!"
Finally, Howard glared at Oliver one last time. "Go to the Phoebe Group now and resign from all your positions. Go home and cool off!"
"Whenever you've calmed down, you can come back to the company!"
"No need."
Oliver sneered, his eyes cold as he stared at Howard. "I won't be returning to the Phoebe Group."
"The last time I left, I didn't want to come back. If it weren't for my mother begging me, out of respect for her, do you think I would have come back to deal with the Phoebe Group's near-bankruptcy caused by Jasper?"
He took a deep breath. "Howard, remember, it was you who didn't want me at the Phoebe Group. Even if you beg me in the future, I won't help!"
With that, he turned and walked away without looking back.
Howard, overwhelmed with anger, staggered back a few steps. "Zara just fell into a coma, and my son and daughter are already disobedient!"
Daisy quickly supported him. "Father, don't be too upset. You still have me."
Howard sighed and gently patted Daisy's head. "Daisy, thank goodness I still have you... Otherwise, I wouldn't know what to do."
"Dad, don't worry. No matter what, I'll always be on your side."
Daisy smiled sweetly at him and took his arm. "Let's go inside and deal with Jasper, the one who killed Mom. That's the priority."
