Chapter 842 Why Not Help Him?
The message in Adeline's hand made her freeze.
She bit her lip, her mind swirling with questions.
How did Jasper know what she was doing right now?
Instinctively, she glanced at the rearview mirror.
On the deserted outer ring road at night, only Brandon's car was moving.
Jasper wasn't following them, and there couldn't be any surveillance or informants in Brandon's car.
The only answer was that Jasper had seen her get into Brandon's car and knew what evidence Brandon had, so he guessed what he was planning to do.
Thinking about this, Adeline's heart skipped a beat.
Jasper was truly frightening in his intelligence and calmness.
But since he sent her this message, he must have a solution.
Taking a deep breath, Adeline put down her phone and looked at Brandon with a cold gaze.
"You just said that if I don't agree to release those funds, you'll show everything you have to Howard to anger him to death, right?"
She smiled and made a "please" gesture.
"Go ahead, be my guest."
"Since Howard left everything in the Phoebe family to Daisy in his will."
"It doesn't matter whether I release those frozen funds or not, the rest of the Phoebe family's assets don't belong to me."
"So why should I take out those frozen funds to save his life?"
"When he dies, I can just take the money and run away with my mom. Why should I care about the Phoebe family?"
She turned her face away, her eyes cold as she looked out the window. "That money should be enough for my mom and me to live comfortably for a long time, right?"
Her words made Brandon's eyes narrow sharply.
He hadn't expected Adeline, who was always so loyal and righteous, to say she didn't care about Howard!
He squinted. "Howard is your biological father!"
"So what?"
Adeline sneered. "Since his mind is full of Daisy, even on his deathbed, he left all his assets to her in his will."
"Do I need such a father?"
Brandon looked at Adeline's cold profile, his gaze growing deeper.
The thing about Howard leaving everything to Daisy in his will was something he made up to threaten Adeline.
He wanted her to think that if she didn't care about Howard's life, neither he nor Daisy would care either, and they would use these things to anger Howard to death.
He was confident that someone as loyal and filial as Adeline would definitely fall for it.
But when did this woman become so smart?
He squinted. "So what will it take for you to release those funds?"
Both the Torres family and the Phoebe family desperately needed that money.
Jasper's economic pressure on them was growing, and they couldn't wait any longer!
If Adeline didn't release the funds soon, both the Torres family and the Phoebe family would collapse, and everything would be over before his wedding with Daisy tomorrow!
Seeing his attitude soften, Adeline sighed inwardly.
Jasper's decision was indeed correct.
Brandon wouldn't dare do anything to Howard without getting that money!
Taking a deep breath, she looked at Brandon calmly.
"I've already made myself clear before, and it's still the same now."
"Unless you agree to my three conditions, there's nothing to discuss."
She turned her head to look out the window again.
"Take me back to the cottage in the suburbs."
The driver instinctively glanced at Brandon through the rearview mirror.
His brows furrowed, and he looked at Adeline with some irritation.
"Is there really no room for negotiation?"
Adeline nodded. "If you don't agree to my conditions, there's nothing to discuss."
She didn't necessarily want to see the Phoebe Group go down.
But if she was to release those frozen funds, she had to personally oversee their use and ensure they were spent wisely.
This money was Howard and Zara's last line of defense. She couldn't just hand it over to Daisy and Brandon to squander.
Brandon squinted. "Adeline, have you thought about it?"
"If we do as you say and make you the CEO of the Phoebe Group, you'll have to deal with Jasper."
"He's the man you once loved the most. Can you really be ruthless with him?"
"And given your close past, Jasper could easily manipulate you."
"Not letting you get involved in the company's affairs is actually for your own good."
Adeline smirked, her gaze cold as she glanced at him. "How do you know it won't be me manipulating Jasper instead?"
Her words left Brandon momentarily speechless.
After a while, he squinted. "Driver, take the next exit off the outer ring."
The driver quickly nodded. "Are we taking Ms. Phoebe home?"
"No!"
Brandon glared at the driver. "Stop at the next exit and let her out!"
The driver, having been scolded for no reason, could only lower his head and drive to the next exit.
The car door opened, and Brandon coldly said to Adeline, "Get out."
Adeline chuckled. "Well then, goodbye."
With that, she gracefully opened the car door.
As soon as she stepped out, the black Cayenne sped off, barely missing her.
Adeline stood there, watching the direction Brandon's car had gone, a smile playing on her lips.
Brandon had always been a hypocrite, always polite no matter what.
This was the first time Adeline had seen him so angry.
He was so mad that he didn't even want to take her home, instead throwing her out halfway.
He must be really pissed off.
Shrugging, she started walking along the roadside while dialing Jasper's number.
The call was quickly answered.
On the other end, Giselle's sweet, gentle voice came through.
"Hello, who is this?"
"You're still there?"
Adeline frowned, her voice tinged with disgust. "Where's Jasper?"
Giselle glanced at the man on the balcony, busy with a video conference, and lowered her voice. "Mr. Foster is taking a shower. Can it wait until tomorrow?"
Adeline sneered. "He's showering, and you're not helping him?"
Giselle hesitated. "I'm not as eager as you. Mr. Foster said he doesn't like..."
"Jasper is right-handed, and his right arm is injured. He can't use his right hand, and his wound can't get wet."
"If you were a competent girlfriend, why aren't you helping him?"
