Chapter 502 Would You Consider Marrying Me?

After hanging up on Mia, Adeline was wide awake.

She got up and headed straight to Blake's nursery, where she found his computer.

Blake was a young hacker, really good at getting into networks most people couldn't touch.

Adeline planned to use his skills to dig into Dr. Smith's connections.

Since money wasn't working on Dr. Smith, she decided to turn to personal ties.

As she dug into Dr. Smith's personal life, she hoped someone in his circle might be one of her contacts abroad.

After a thorough search, she found nothing. But then, she noticed Dr. Smith had married a woman named Evelyn, who was over ten years younger than him, a few years back.

Adeline clicked on Evelyn's profile and saw a familiar name: Caroline.

A few years ago, Evelyn's daughter had died in an accident, and her ex-husband, devastated by their daughter's death, died in a car crash shortly after.

Not long after that, Evelyn married Dr. Smith. And Evelyn's deceased daughter was named Caroline.

Seeing the name Caroline made Adeline's heart race.

If she remembered right, Vikram once mentioned that the girl who was Luna's roommate, who constantly bullied Luna and was eventually pushed down the stairs by him in a moment of misjudgment, was named Caroline.

If this Caroline was the same one, then things were really weird.

Logically, Evelyn should hate Luna, one of the people responsible for her daughter's death. Yet her current husband was helping Luna.

Adeline's gut told her something was definitely off.

Thinking about this, she grabbed her phone and called Vikram.

On the other end of the line, Vikram was half-asleep. When he answered, he yawned. "What time is it, Adeline? Why aren't you sleeping?"

Adeline didn't bother with pleasantries; she just frowned. "Let me ask you, how much do you know about the Caroline you accidentally pushed down the stairs? What were her parents' names?"

Vikram furrowed his brows, thinking. "Her dad was named Lucas, and her mom was named Evelyn. Back then, to keep me out of jail, my mom negotiated with them, so I remember their names clearly."

Adeline pressed her lips together. So, the person providing fake medical records for Luna was the current husband of Caroline's mom.

"What's wrong?" Seeing Adeline not speaking, Vikram yawned again and asked, "Why are you suddenly asking about Caroline?"

Adeline took a deep breath. "Why do you think Dr. Smith's team would help Luna with such a medical record?"

Mia had made it clear over the phone. Dr. Smith's team cared about money.

Because their big client offered more money, they even canceled the appointment they had just made with Mia.

Such a money-driven team, why would they suddenly help a broke Luna with such a record?

"Maybe they have something on Luna, just like I do." Vikram yawned. "It definitely isn't about money. Luna has always been poor. I paid for her pocket money when we were in school."

Adeline pressed her lips together; she thought so too.

If they didn't have something on Luna, they wouldn't have done it. This team wouldn't have issued such a diagnosis otherwise.

Everything was telling Adeline that Caroline's death might not be that simple.

"Anything else?" Vikram yawned continuously, feeling very sleepy. "If not, I'm going back to sleep."

"One more thing." Adeline took a deep breath. "I remember you said Caroline didn't die immediately from the fall but was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where they couldn't save her. Is that correct?"

Vikram nodded. "Yeah, that's right."

Adeline asked, "Do you know who tried to save her back then?"

Vikram was quiet for a moment. "I don't know."

"But I do know that when Caroline's dad Lucas died later, a reporter interviewed the person who tried to save him. The person didn't reveal his real name, but he expressed his pain in the news, saying he couldn't save either Caroline or Lucas."

After saying this, Vikram got out of bed. "Why are you suddenly asking me these questions? Is there something fishy about Caroline's death?"

Adeline was silent for a bit before sighing and sharing her doubts. "You might not know this, but Caroline's mom, Evelyn, is now Dr. Smith's wife."

Vikram jumped out of bed. "Are you talking about Dr. Smith, the one who faked Luna's medical records?"

Adeline nodded. "Yep. You also said that the only reason Dr. Smith would do something for Luna is that he may have something on her or owed her something. And the only connection between Dr. Smith and Luna now seems to be the deceased Caroline."

"Damn!" Vikram was instantly wide awake. "Could it be that Caroline's death wasn't an accident, but a conspiracy between Luna and Dr. Smith? Does that mean my manslaughter charge might be overturned, and I won't have to go to jail?"

He sighed in frustration. "I'm not afraid of going to jail; it's just that the charge is too heavy. If I serve a long sentence, I won't have time to take care of my parents when I get out. If I'm not the main person responsible for Caroline's death, I won't avoid it."

Listening to him, Adeline sighed. "But I think a few years ago, Luna wouldn't have thought to get Dr. Smith to make fake medical records to deceive Jasper. So, there's no conspiracy between them."

After saying this, Adeline took a deep breath. "But Luna might have something on Dr. Smith. Didn't you say that both Caroline and her dad were treated by the same doctor? Could there be something wrong with that doctor?"

Adeline's words gave Vikram a new line of thought.

He immediately opened his computer while still on the phone. "You're right. Dr. Smith was indeed a doctor at the hospital where Caroline and her dad were taken a few years ago. After Caroline fell, I was dumbfounded. It was Luna who first rushed down from the rooftop to hold Caroline and went with her in the ambulance to the hospital. Maybe I'm not the main person responsible for Caroline's death."

Taking a deep breath, Vikram said, "Adeline, I'm booking a ticket now. I'll head back to the city where I went to school today and check the hospital records. If Dr. Smith was indeed the doctor back then, Luna might be using that to blackmail him into making the fake medical records. We need to figure out a way to make Dr. Smith confess when the time comes."

Adeline nodded. "Okay."

If possible, Adeline wanted to investigate this matter with Vikram herself.

But with Molly, Bennett, and Sebastian all in Radiance Springs, she didn't want to leave casually.

If they left while she was gone, Adeline might never find them again.

But Adeline couldn't help but remind him, "Vikram, be careful. All of this is just our speculation. The truth might be completely different from what we think, so don't get your hopes up too high."

Vikram laughed on the other end of the line. "Rare to hear you care about me. This time, even if we find out that I'm not the main culprit in Caroline's death, I'm still going to jail."

After saying this, Vikram sniffled. "If I'm out of jail and you still haven't reconciled with Jasper, would you consider marrying me?"
