Chapter 432 How's Your Friend Been Doing Lately?
Laura was all like, "Blake, I told ya, Daddy wouldn't miss seeing you!"
Lauren, super pumped, dragged Jasper through the door.
Violet, just standing there, was totally floored, her eyes practically popping out.
Ever since Lauren got diagnosed with autism, she barely ever spoke up on her own.
Sometimes, even when folks talked to her, Laura would just stay quiet, not wanting to chat.
Violet had been hanging out with Adeline and Lauren, waiting for Blake all day, and this was the first time Lauren had actually said something.
When Adeline saw Violet's shocked face, she couldn't help but let out a sigh.
She remembered the last time Lauren had spoken up on her own; it was to ask her to stick by Jasper's side and take care of him while he was in a coma.
Now, she was speaking up again, and it was for Jasper.
It was clear that Lauren really liked Jasper as her dad.
She wasn't mad that Lauren liked Jasper; she just felt bummed. Because Lauren was willing to push through her autism symptoms and speak up for him.
But in Jasper's eyes, Lauren wasn't his daughter.
To him, Lauren, Blake, and even the late Bennett and the unborn kid were like old files he could just toss out without a second thought.
"Mr. Foster." Blake took the cup of water Adeline handed him and looked up at Jasper's face. "Did you come to see me when I was in surgery?"
"How could he have had the time?" Violet sneered from the side, about to say more, but Adeline shot her a look to stop her.
No matter what, Blake had just had surgery, and Adeline didn't want to upset him too much.
Even if she had to wait until Blake was fully recovered to spill the truth, it was better than saying something now that would bum him out.
"But I heard Mr. Foster's voice." Blake looked at Jasper's face, his voice and expression calm. "Even though I was out cold during the surgery, I kinda heard Mr. Foster's voice. I wouldn't mistake it."
Jasper narrowed his eyes a bit.
During Blake's surgery, he had indeed asked the assistant doc about his condition a few times through the monitor.
He hadn't expected that Blake, who was under anesthesia, could hear and even remember it.
"Maybe you were just imagining things." Jasper smiled at Blake. "I wasn't there."
Blake squinted at Jasper's stern face, trying to read his emotions.
From Jasper's poker face, Blake couldn't figure out anything.
Blake put down the cup and sighed softly.
Since Jasper didn't want to admit it, so be it.
Blake was a hacker, a computer whiz. How could he mistake Jasper's voice, which came through the monitor?
He didn't get why Jasper, who clearly cared enough to ask the doc several times during the surgery, pretended not to care in front of Adeline.
But he knew that Jasper wasn't as bad as he thought.
Just as Blake was lost in his thoughts, Jasper's phone rang.
Jasper glanced at the number and quickly said goodbye to Blake and Lauren before turning to leave.
As he turned, Adeline saw the name on the phone screen. It was Luna.
She watched him walk away, feeling a chill in her heart.
So, even if he did swing by to see Blake, one call from Luna and he was outta there without a second glance.
"Daddy must've had to handle some work stuff," Lauren quickly reassured Blake, worried he'd get bummed out. "Maybe it's something serious at the office."
Lauren held Blake's hand. "Blake, don't sweat it. Daddy does care about you. He loves you a lot."
Blake smiled. "I know."
Seeing Lauren and Blake trying to stay strong, both Adeline and Violet felt a pang of sadness.
Violet bit her lip, cursing Jasper in her head, then gently patted Adeline's shoulder and softly comforted her.
Actually, Adeline didn't need comforting becauseshe had long figured out what kind of person Jasper was.
But looking at Lauren and Blake, she couldn't help but feel a sense of sorrow.
They were like she once was, thinking they had the whole world just because Jasper showed them a little kindness.
She feared that Lauren and Blake would be distressed and heartbroken.
For the next week, Adeline stayed in the hospital to take care of Blake.
He had no rejection to the transplanted bone marrow and was getting better every day.
When he was discharged a week later, he could even jump into Vikram's car hand in hand with Lauren.
Seeing Blake so lively, Adeline couldn't help but sigh.
Blake was still a kid after all.
No matter how mature he usually was, he could still be childish.
"You can't expect a six-year-old to act more grown-up than me, right?" Vikram, seemingly reading Adeline's thoughts, leaned against the car door and smiled at her. "Let kids be kids."
Adeline glanced at him. "You're a kid too."
Vikram touched his nose and said playfully, "I'm just younger than you in age, but not in other ways."
After saying this, he suddenly remembered that Adeline was Jasper's woman.
So Vikram awkwardly smiled and quickly changed the subject.
It wasn't entirely his fault. Although Adeline was already the mother of a six-year-old child, she still possessed striking beauty and flawless skin.
People might believe she was the same age as him, a nineteen-year-old.
Adeline pretended not to hear the suggestive tone in Vikram's words and changed the subject while putting Blake's hospital luggage in the trunk. "How's your friend doing lately?"
Vikram was silent for a moment before realizing that Adeline was referring to Luna, who had donated bone marrow to Blake.
Thinking of Luna, Vikram couldn't help but snort. "She's doing well. A few days ago, she was even thinking about having a kid."
Adeline's hand paused slightly as she held the suitcase.
For some reason, hearing Vikram mention wanting a kid made her think of Luna.
That day, Violet had said Luna wanted to have a kid with Jasper.
She hadn't taken it seriously at the time, but now, hearing Vikram mention his friend wanting a kid, she couldn't help but think of it again.
They were both Vikram's friends and both wanted a kid.
A ridiculous thought suddenly popped into her head. 'Could it be that Luna was the one who donated bone marrow to Blake?'
