Chapter 714 I Am Willing
Jasper's words grabbed everyone's attention in the room.
The murmurs grew louder as people started whispering among themselves.
"Who is this guy?"
"Don't you know? That's Jasper Foster from Radiance Springs. He almost bankrupted the Phoebe family when he came to Oceancrest City!"
"Oh my God, it's him! What's he doing here?"
"Is he now targeting the Torres family after settling the score with the Phoebe family?"
"What does he want and what's his deal with Ms. Wilson?"
The chatter in the room was almost deafening.
On stage, Adeline clutched the microphone tightly, her face pale and her palms sweaty. From the moment Jasper showed up tonight, she knew he wouldn't let her and Brandon have a peaceful engagement ceremony. But she never expected him to humiliate her like this.
He knew these events were just formalities, and no one really cared about the details of her and Brandon's relationship. Yet, he chose this moment to cause trouble!
He didn't even interrupt when Brandon was speaking; he waited until she was talking to make his move. Jasper was still as arrogant and domineering as ever, thinking that because she liked him, he could do whatever he wanted to her.
Adeline bit her lip, her knuckles turning white as she held the microphone. If Jasper wanted to embarrass her, she saw no reason to show him any respect.
Taking a deep breath, she tightened her grip on the microphone and spoke in a cold, emotionless voice.
"Mr. Foster, do you have a hearing problem?"
She smirked, her smile full of icy sarcasm. "Since you didn't hear me clearly, let me repeat it for you, seriously and formally. From the moment Brandon saved me from drowning six years ago, I fell in love with him at first sight."
"Brandon has always been good to me. He is the first to appear when I'm in danger, he puts me first in his heart, and he treats me well in every way. Many men here might not be able to do that. What do you think, Mr. Foster?" she turned to Jasper.
Jasper narrowed his eyes, a cold smile playing on his lips.
"Adeline, you might not know this, but the Torres family has arranged for this grand engagement ceremony to be broadcast live globally. Everyone in the world can see it, including people in Radiance Springs. Do you really want to lie in front of so many people?"
Jasper's words made Adeline's face turn pale. He mentioned the live broadcast and Radiance Springs to remind her that the children were watching this engagement ceremony too!
She gripped the microphone tightly, regretting her impulsive decision to share their love story. At the same time, she blamed Jasper!
If it weren't for him, she might have already put down the microphone and returned to Brandon's side by now. This was supposed to be just a part of the ceremony!
Now, thanks to Jasper's interference, everyone was laser-focused on this drama.
Adeline gritted her teeth. "What makes you think I'm lying, Mr. Foster? I never lie."
"Really?"
Jasper's cold smile widened as he pulled out his phone. "Want me to play the recording of what you said to me before?"
His words made Adeline's face turn even paler. She bit her lip and instinctively spoke, "Jasper, don't you dare!"
Her reaction caused an uproar in the room. Even if Jasper didn't play the recording, everyone could guess what it contained.
The room buzzed with renewed discussion. People glanced at the pale-faced Adeline on stage and the mocking Jasper below, their conversations taking on a new tone.
Adeline's expression kept changing. Brandon wheeled himself forward, gently taking Adeline's hand and the microphone from her. He looked calmly at Jasper.
"Mr. Foster, I know you and Adeline were once in love, but that's all in the past."
Jasper smirked. "Mr. Torres, you call something that happened just two weeks ago as the past?"
Jasper took a deep breath, stood up, and slowly walked up the steps to the stage.
Adeline bit her lip, watching his steps, feeling that something was off.
Even though his steps were still strong and his presence commanding, she could tell he wasn't feeling well. He must not be in good shape.
Adeline remembered how pale he looked that morning at the Torres Mansion. He had been so weak, yet now he seemed full of energy, like a different person.
Seeing him now in such a fatigued state, she recalled how he used to celebrate her birthdays, even after receiving a cortisone shot. Adeline's heart sank.
Jasper must be pushing himself again, using medication to appear normal!
He still didn't take care of himself. What would happen to him when she wasn't around. Adeline stopped herself.
She mocked herself inwardly. Jasper didn't care about her, so why should she care about his well-being or his future?
She didn't care about him anymore, not at all!
While Adeline was lost in thought, Jasper had already reached them. He grabbed the microphone from the host and looked at the audience.
"Everyone, you might be wondering about my relationship with Ms. Wilson."
He walked over to Adeline and pulled her into his arms. "This is our relationship. We've been together for many years and have three triplets, two sons and a daughter."
He glanced at Brandon. "If it weren't for Mr. Torres using his life-saving favor to threaten Adeline, she would never have agreed to this engagement."
Jasper's words caused another uproar. Adeline struggled in his arms.
"Brandon didn't force me; I agreed willingly!"
Jasper held her tightly, his voice cold. "If he hadn't used underhanded tactics, would you have agreed willingly?"
