Chapter 459 Do You Have Time to Grab a Meal Together?
That day, when Adeline saw the burn on Luna's stomach, she knew something was fishy.
I mean, when that coffee spilled on Luna, some of it got on Adeline's hand too.
Yeah, the coffee was hot, but after Adeline rinsed it with cold water, she was fine. So why was Luna burned so badly?
The doc's words just now confirmed Adeline's hunch. Those big burns on Luna's stomach? Probably not from that coffee!
Adeline's question made Jasper frown a bit.
He started walking out with big strides, saying all cool-like, "I reserve my opinion."
Adeline was taken aback for a sec, then laughed. "Reserve your opinion? Jasper, is it 'cause you know Ms. Jones is up to something and you feel guilty, so you don't wanna answer me?"
Jasper kept walking. "Think whatever you want."
Adeline stood there, watching Jasper's back, a bitter smile on her lips.
She'd been worried he was really hurt and had helped him all the way to the hospital. But once Jasper was fine, not only did he not show any gratitude, but he also "reserved his opinion" in the face of Luna's obvious lies?
Just as Adeline was mocking herself while watching his back, Jasper turned his head and looked at her indifferently. "By the way, about Luna's injury, I don't want any unnecessary rumors spreading before I finish my investigation. Got it?"
Adeline raised an eyebrow, seething with anger.
She snapped, "When Luna falsely accused me of injuring her, Mr. Foster, why didn't you reserve your opinion and investigate properly? Instead, you demanded I apologize right away! But when it comes to Luna, you wanna dig deep and keep the gossip at bay? Jasper, how long are you gonna keep indulging Luna? When will this double standard end?"
Facing her anger, Jasper squinted his eyes. "Have you forgotten? Right now, Luna is the team leader for the Foster Group in the jewelry competition."
His gaze was cold and serious. "Got swapped out over a scandal, right? You wanna see the Foster Group ditch another leader for the same reason? Jerry has stated that if Luna has any more issues, the Foster Group's qualification to compete will be revoked!"
He looked at Adeline's face, speaking each word clearly, "Aren't you willing to sacrifice for your team, for Timothy, and Robert? Then keep this matter to yourself. After the competition, I'll give you an answer."
Having said this, Jasper strode away purposefully.
Adeline stood there, watching his figure fade into the distance, her hands clenched tightly into fists at her sides.
The Foster Group having a scandal would cancel the team's qualification to compete. Since Jasper already knew this, why didn't he stop Luna from scheming against her? Instead, he forced her to give up her position to Luna and then asked her to protect Luna for the team's sake.
Adeline closed her eyes and let out a bitter laugh. Jasper never failed to disappoint her. In his eyes, Luna was always more important than her.
The most infuriating part was that even though he was being totally unfair, he always found a legit reason, making it seem like he was being fair and just. It was truly disgusting. How did she ever fall for such a selfish guy like Jasper?
After leaving the hospital, Adeline had just hopped into a cab back to Blue Bay when her phone buzzed.
She glanced down. Most of the messages and calls were from folks in the design department and her team.
Adeline didn't need a crystal ball to figure out that Jasper had probably announced Luna was taking her place.
With less than two days until the competition, the sooner they made the switch, the better. Otherwise, Luna wouldn't even have time to memorize the scripts for explaining the design concepts on stage.
Adeline scrolled through the messages one by one. Finally, she tagged everyone in the competition design group chat.
"Replacing Ms. Jones as the team leader was a decision made after discussing with Mr. Foster. I proposed this idea, and I hope everyone understands."
"The competition piece contains not only my efforts but also everyone's. I hope everyone cherishes the results of our hard work. It doesn't matter who leads; what matters is that we win the championship."
"Please actively cooperate with Ms. Jones's work. Thank you."
After sending that, Adeline let out a long sigh of relief. Just as she was about to leave the group, she noticed Luna had sent a message right after her.
Luna: [Didn't want to be the team leader, but Jasper convinced me it was the best move and that I could handle it.]
Luna: [He also said that Ms. Wilson begged him to let me be the team leader.]
Luna: [I know Ms. Wilson is thinking about the bigger picture, and everyone needs to consider the greater good as well.]
Luna: [I believe our team will definitely win the championship! We won't let Ms. Wilson and everyone's efforts go to waste!]
After Luna's message, Raymond and Sienna, who had helped Luna expose Adeline in the meeting, quickly chimed in.
Raymond: [Yes, Ms. Jones has excellent character and will definitely lead our team to win the championship!]
Sienna: [Ms. Jones, go for it! I will unconditionally follow Ms. Jones's arrangements!]
Apart from those two, no one else in the group spoke.
Adeline curled her lips into a cold smile and left the group. She was too tired to argue with Luna.
Honestly, from the start, she didn't care about the honor of this competition but the benefits it would bring her.
Even though she was once the renowned designer Moon abroad, she had already announced her retirement from that identity.
Now, she was just Adeline. So she needed this competition to boost her reputation quickly and make money for Jasper.
But although that was her initial thought, after working day and night with the team for the past half month, she had come to see the competition's results as a recognition and reward for her and the team's efforts. Something she didn't care about initially had now become significant to her. Since Jasper wanted to give it to Luna, she couldn't let her selfish desires cause the team to lose their qualification to compete.
Putting away her phone, Adeline closed her eyes and leaned back in the car seat, suddenly feeling very tired.
At that moment, her phone rang again. It was an unfamiliar number.
Adeline frowned and answered, hearing Richard's cheerful voice on the other end. "Hey, it's Richard! I heard you're in Radiance Springs now? I'm heading there in two days to be a judge for a competition. Got time to grab a meal together?"
