Chapter 767 Our Child Is Not Dead
Blake's words hit Adeline like a punch to the gut.
She bit her lip, crouched down, and placed her hands on Blake's shoulders, her voice low and urgent, "Who told you that Mommy came to say goodbye for the last time?"
"Was it Jasper?"
Bennett, standing nearby, shook his head. "Blake and I figured it out ourselves."
He sighed, reaching out to hold Adeline's fingers, his eyes and voice filled with sorrow, "Mommy, Blake said that your parents and Daddy's family have a deep, deep hatred for each other."
"You chose your family over us."
"We won't be able to be together like we used to."
Bennett's words left Adeline momentarily speechless.
She could only bite her lip and pull all three kids into a tight hug. "Even if Mommy can't be with your Daddy anymore, you will always be my precious babies."
"I will find ways to see you, to be with you. Don't worry."
Adeline's words finally broke Lauren's composure, and she burst into tears.
Lauren couldn't hide her feelings like her brothers could. She clung to Adeline's arm, crying out, "Mommy, I saw on the news that they said you're having Mr. Torres's baby and that you're going to marry him!"
"Will you forget about us when you have a new baby?"
Lauren's words made Adeline's heart ache even more.
She sniffled, trying not to cry, and wiped Lauren's tears with a choked voice, "No, no. You will always be important to Mommy... It's just that I need to go back and take care of my mom now. I promise, once your grandma gets better, or... or if she goes to heaven, I'll find a way to bring you to stay with me for a while, okay?"
Lauren, still sobbing, hugged Adeline tightly. "Mommy, you have to keep your promise."
Adeline hugged her tightly, along with Bennett and Blake, "Mommy always keeps her promises."
If Zara could recover, that would be best.
If Zara couldn't make it, after she took care of Zara until the end... she would still consider leaving the Phoebe family.
Of course, leaving the Phoebe family wasn't for Jasper.
In Jasper's heart, she wasn't the most important person.
And Jasper was no longer the most important person in her heart.
She wanted to take the three kids to a place where no one knew them and live the life they had before.
No, not just three.
There was also the one in her belly.
In the distance, Joseph held Nova's hand, watching the three kids being hugged by Adeline.
Their faces were full of sadness.
They used to be happier than the other three.
But now, they could only watch as the three were embraced by their mom.
Joseph bit his lip, looking at Blake, Bennett, and Lauren with envy.
They had a mom.
But he and Nova didn't.
"Let's go."
Joseph sighed, holding Nova's hand as they walked to the backyard.
"Sorry," he said, looking down as they walked, "I said before that when I found my real mom, I would share her with you."
"But now..."
He thought of Mia, who liked red clothes just like him.
Dad hadn't been in touch with Mia for a long time.
He wondered if Mia had found a new boyfriend.
"It's okay, Joseph."
Nova's eyes sparkled as she looked at him, "It's okay if we don't have a mom. To me, my dad is like my mom."
"Sometimes he even acts like a girl!"
As soon as she said that, the air around them seemed to chill.
The two kids looked up, meeting Dennis's cold gaze.
Nova stuck out her tongue and hid behind Joseph.
Dennis glanced at Jasper, who stood like a statue, then walked over and picked up Joseph and Nova, carrying them to the backyard.
Before leaving, he reminded Jasper, "Do your best."
Jasper stood there, his eyes fixed on Adeline, who was crying with the three kids in her arms.
She still couldn't bear to leave the kids.
Jasper narrowed his eyes slightly.
Dennis told him to do his best, but he knew better than anyone that now wasn't the time to force things.
Adeline had a soft heart.
Instead of throwing all the problems at her to solve... he should help her solve them.
If Adeline returned to the Phoebe family for Zara, he would find a way to cure Zara's illness.
If Adeline chose to break up with him because of the old hatred between the Phoebe family and the Foster family... he would find a way to uncover the truth from back then.
Adeline wasn't someone who couldn't tell right from wrong.
If he could present the evidence of how Esther was abused to death by Howard, he didn't believe Adeline would still insist on recognizing Howard as her father.
And as for Wilford's death... Jasper closed his eyes.
Although Lily had always admitted that she orchestrated Wilford's death...
But... Jasper had also heard Lily say that she only tampered with Wilford's car to teach him a lesson, to make him stop pleading with the Foster family.
Wilford's death was more of an accident than a deliberate act.
After all, the truck that hit Wilford wasn't arranged by the Foster family.
Even so, when the Phoebe family blamed them later, Lily took all the blame.
She felt no need to explain to the Phoebe family, who had killed her daughter.
And because of this, the grudge between the Phoebe family and the Foster family deepened.
Thinking of this, Jasper opened his eyes and looked at the woman holding the three kids.
If Lily had known that her descendants would one day fall in love with the Phoebe family's daughter, would she have made the same decision back then?
"Daddy!"
Suddenly, Lauren's voice pulled Jasper back to reality.
When Jasper came to his senses, the three kids had already brought Adeline to him.
"Jasper."
Looking at his haggard face, Adeline took a deep breath, "We meet again."
Although they had seen each other often recently, this seemed to be the first time they had met so calmly and alone.
"Yes."
Jasper turned and gestured towards a nearby room. "Let's go."
Adeline nodded, reassured the kids, and then walked into the room, sitting down at the table.
Jasper closed the door and sat across from her.
They stared at each other for a long time.
After a while, Jasper lowered his head, pouring her some juice as he spoke, "Actually, the main reason I asked you to come was to help calm the kids' emotions."
"They've been with you for six years, and they can't bear to be apart from you."
Adeline took the juice he handed her, "Is that all?"
"Pretty much."
Jasper looked up, his gaze calm, "There's one more thing I want to ask you."
"Go ahead."
"You..."
Jasper's eyes fell on Adeline's belly, "Our child isn't dead, is it?"
Jasper's words made Adeline's breath catch.
