Chapter 674 Isn't Molly Just an Adopted Daughter

With a loud clang, the heavy iron gate of the police station slammed shut.

After a brief interrogation, Adeline was dressed in a prison jumpsuit and shoved into the women's cell.

She collapsed to the ground, unable to get up for a long time.

The cell was so dark that it was almost impossible to see anyone's face.

"Looks like we got ourselves a fresh fish."

Suddenly, she heard a few women's mocking voices nearby. "She looks pretty young and quite pretty too! Brenda, check it out, someone newer than you."

Hearing the name "Brenda," Adeline instinctively looked up. She met Brenda's cold, vicious eyes.

.

Brenda sat on the edge of a bed and gazed at Adeline's pale, haggard face. "You ended up here too?"

Adeline bit her lip hard, staying silent.

The woman leading the group glanced at Brenda. "You know her?"

Brenda stood up, her eyes locked coldly on Adeline.

"If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be here! She's gorgeous but cold-hearted. The Foster family's wealth is all thanks to her and her kids, Jasper and Lily. Yet, they wouldn't give us a single cent!"

Hearing that, some of the other women in the cell began to mock Adeline, while others walked over and started touching her face with dirty hands.

"Such a pretty face. I wonder if it'll still look this good when it's hurt."

"Hey, beauty, what did you do to end up here?"

"Want to help us clean the bathroom? If you don't, you'll have to lick it clean with your tongue."

Adeline lay on the ground, listening to the insults and feeling their malice. Finally, she forced herself to stand up.

"Clean the bathroom? Sure, I'll go now."

She knew that in a place like this, she had to submit.

Jasper had said he would take care of things.

All she could do was protect herself here, so she wouldn't be half-dead by the time she got out.

Taking a deep breath, Adeline steadied herself and walked towards the distant bathroom.

Her actions surprised everyone present.

The leading woman squinted at Adeline's back, then glanced at Brenda.

"You have a grudge against her, so you supervise."

Brenda sneered, "Gladly!"

She strode over and kicked Adeline's leg just as she was grabbing a mop.

Adeline almost fell but managed to hold onto the mop handle, avoiding a complete collapse. She turned, glaring at Brenda with anger.

Brenda crossed her arms, a smirk on her lips. "How dare you resist? Get back to work!"

She leaned closer to Adeline. "I have quite a few friends in this cell. If you don't want to get beaten up while you sleep, you'd better do everything I say! Or you'll regret it!"

Adeline numbly nodded and turned to enter the bathroom with the mop.

Brenda followed with a cold laugh.

Half an hour later, Adeline finished cleaning the bathroom. But her body was now covered in a foul stench.

Brenda walked out ahead of her, arms crossed, sneering.

"It's really satisfying, ladies. The high and mighty jewelry designer, Jasper's beloved woman. She would end up looking and smelling this disgusting!"

Adeline quietly stood by the sink, scrubbing her prison jumpsuit.

Brenda kept up her sharp, mocking laughter with the other women.

"Can you imagine Jasper's face if he saw her like this? Bet he'd be so grossed out he wouldn't eat for days!"

Just then, the cell door creaked open. A guard looked at Adeline coldly.

"Come on, someone wants to see you."

Adeline paused, then mechanically put on her wet jumpsuit and followed the guard out.

In the visiting room, Mia, dressed in red, waited anxiously.

Adeline, reeking of filth, was brought in by a guard who pinched his nose.

Her jumpsuit was still dirty, with a faint stench clinging to it.

Adeline sat down in front of Mia.

Mia, seemingly oblivious to the smell, grabbed Adeline's hand. "Did someone bully you?"

Adeline nodded, her voice calm and hoarse. "How are Jasper and the kids?"

She didn't mention her own suffering, only asking about those she worried about.

She was so concerned about Jasper, whose closest family was Lily.

Even though they had prepared for Lily's departure, accepting that she was murdered was something Adeline couldn't bear, let alone Jasper, who saw Lily as his only family.

Jasper must be heartbroken, lost, and confused.

Before Lily passed away, she repeatedly reminded Adeline to take good care of Jasper.

However,  she was stuck here, unable to help him, needing his help to clear her name.

And the three kids loved Lily so much. Her sudden death must have devastated them.

When children were sad, they looked for their mom.

If they couldn't find her, would they be even more heartbroken? Would they go to Jasper, making him even more upset?

Adeline's words made Mia sigh deeply.

She looked at Adeline helplessly. "You're still thinking about them at a time like this? You're the one suffering the most right now!"

Adeline shook her head lightly. "I'm okay." She could endure the humiliation and pain.

Mia sighed again. "I was up all night and slept all day. If Jasper hadn't called me, I wouldn't have known you were suffering here. Jasper wanted to come see you himself. But now, whenever he goes out, he's swarmed by reporters. No matter what, he can't shake them off. They're like flies, asking him disgusting questions. He didn't want to cause you more trouble, so he sent me."

Mia held Adeline's hand tightly. "Jasper wants you to know he believes in your innocence. He knows you didn't kill Lily. He wants you to wait, to come home with him and hold Lily's memorial service together."

Mia's words brought tears to Adeline's eyes.

She closed her eyes and nodded earnestly. "I know."

As long as he believed in her, she had the strength to endure here.

Mia held Adeline's hand, comforting her softly for a while before taking a deep breath.

"Adeline, there's something else I need to tell you. On my way here, I passed the bridge. I saw..."

She paused, then continued slowly. "I saw your parents, Daniel and Helen, crying and mourning Molly by the bridge."

Mia frowned. "Isn't Molly just an adopted daughter?"
