Chapter 581 I Can Never Escape This Lifetime
Bennett shoved open the big iron door of the old warehouse, and it screeched like nails on a chalkboard.
He flicked on the wall light, and suddenly, all the dust could be seen floating around.
This place was a dump, reeking of mold and rust. Bennett wrinkled his nose, covered his mouth, and strode in.
On the dirty, weed-covered floor, Sebastian was tied to an iron pillar, looking like he'd been through hell, with dried blood and wounds all over his face.
The bright light made him flinch, curling up instinctively. After a bit, he slowly lifted his head.
When he saw Bennett, his eyes lit up.
He tried to speak, but his voice was all messed up, like an old, broken accordion. "Bennett."
Bennett sighed, squatting down. As he cut the ropes with a knife, he said, "Just call me Liam."
He added, "I like Bennett, but my mom doesn't. So, stick with Liam, okay? Don't want to piss her off."
Sebastian's eyes showed a hint of sadness. He sighed and asked, "Liam, why are you here?"
"If I didn't come, were you planning on dying here?" Bennett shot him a look, pulled some food from his backpack, and shoved it into Sebastian's hand.
Starving for days, Sebastian tore into the bread like a wild animal.
Bennett grabbed a first aid kit from his bag and started cleaning Sebastian's wounds. "Sebastian, why'd you try to escape and contact the outside world? You know my mom's got a nasty temper."
Sebastian paused mid-bite. After a moment, he gave a bitter smile. "I told you, I have my own family."
A few days ago, he saw on the news that Andrew and Aurora were in Radiance Springs to sign a deal with the Foster Group.
They were only in town for two days. It was the closest he'd been to his parents in ages.
He even knew they were staying at a hotel just two streets away.
Sebastian used to dislike his parents, thinking they were too old-fashioned. But he couldn't just forget about them. So, he tried to sneak out and get in touch with them.
But Molly found out. She had him beaten up, locked him here, and planned to let him starve.
Bennett sighed. After a while, he looked Sebastian in the eyes, determined. "Sebastian, you saved my life. If you want to see your family, I'll help you."
He continued, "My mom agreed to move you somewhere better to recover. Once I finish what she wants, she'll let you go."
Sebastian was stunned. He had a pretty good idea of what Molly wanted Bennett to do.
Sebastian's brows knitted together. "Liam, you don't have to do that. I can handle it."
Bennett grabbed his hand. "Sebastian, I actually envy you. You still have family."
He added, "They must treat you well, that's why you can't forget them. Unlike me. You've got family, and you'll be happy in the future."
He sighed. "Even if my mom gets what she wants, she still won't like me. She'll still hit me, yell at me, and treat me like a burden."
He continued, "She's my mom, so I can't escape her. But I can do my best to make you happy."
Bennett's words made Sebastian freeze. He bit his lip. "Liam, it's not like that."
Jasper had been lying in the hospital for six days. During those six days, Adeline never left his side.
According to the doctor, although Jasper was out of danger, if he didn't wake up within a week, he might end up in a vegetative state for the rest of his life.
"Adeline, you should eat more. You look haggard."
Sitting in the hospital room, Violet looked at the worn-out Adeline and sighed softly.
No matter who tried to persuade her—Ryan, Violet, Mia, or Linda—she never left Jasper's side. It was really worrying.
The doctor said there was still a good chance Jasper would wake up before tonight. But in the back of their minds, everyone knew he might not.
Adeline didn't take the banana Violet handed her. Instead, she looked at the time on her phone.
"There are still two or three hours left until the doctor's deadline."
She looked up at Violet and smiled, a smile that was bright yet fragile.
"I'll eat with Jasper when he wakes up." Adeline said, her voice infused with a fragile determination.
Seeing her like this made Violet's heart ache even more. She walked over and gently held Adeline's hand. "Adeline, have you thought about what you'll do if Jasper never wakes up?"
Violet's words pierced through Adeline's resolute facade, and she lowered her head silently. After a moment, the tears finally started to fall, silent rivers of sorrow streaming down her cheeks.
Adeline tightly hugged Violet. "I don't know, Violet."
She continued, "In the past, I could say I hated him, that he deserved to die, and that everything was his fault."
"But now I know he treated Luna well for Blake's sake, almost died in Lillehammer for Blake," she said.
She added, "This time, the first few stabs were because of an ambush meant for me. The last stab was probably done by the amnesiac Bennett."
Her tears soaked Violet's clothes. "He ended up like this for us, for the three of us. If he never wakes up, won't he even hear our apology?"
Violet held Adeline and couldn't find the words to comfort her.
In the end, she just held her tightly, letting her cry and vent.
"Let me in!"
At that moment, there was a loud argument outside. Adeline recognized the voice; it was Jasper's father.
She let go of Violet, wiped away her tears, and stood up. Just as she was about to go out to check, the door to the hospital room was kicked open from the outside.
Nathan, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, stormed in angrily. A slap landed hard on Adeline's face.
