Chapter 63 Mommy, You're Crying
"Revenge?"
That one word strongly stirred Molly's nerves. Adeline wanted revenge? What revenge? Against whom? Against her?
She dared!
Adeline, that bitch. Molly should have killed her herself! That driver who threw her into the sea had given her an easy way out! If she had been the one, Adeline wouldn't still be alive? And not to mention giving birth to this little bitch in front of her!
A touch of resentment flashed across Molly's face as she coldly looked at Adeline. "The way you talk, it's as if someone did something wrong to my sister."
She gracefully tucked her hair behind her ear and continued, "It was she who left without a word, claiming she betrayed Jasper. Nobody did anything to her, so who is she seeking revenge against?"
With that said, she cast a cold glance at Adeline...
Adeline, whose eyes held a menacing look as Molly continued, "You haven't even met her and yet you're speaking without basis, uncultured."
Not being able to stand the insult towards Adeline, Lauren, who was sitting next to Helen, bit her lip and deliberately raised her voice, changing the subject, "Grandma, I want to eat this!" Helen was taken aback and quickly picked up her spoon to feed Lauren, saying, "Molly, hold your tongue, Lauren is here."
Molly coldly snorted, "I'm speaking the truth." Helen frowned, "Hold your tongue." After that, she looked at Adeline kindly and added, "My daughter has always been like this, don't mind her." Adeline's throat tightened as she looked at her mother's aged and weary face.
"However," Helen sighed, continuing to feed Lauren while lamenting, "Molly is not wrong. No one owes her anything, let alone harm her. She just left without a word, and we haven't seen her for six years... It truly is heartbreaking."
Adeline bit her lip tightly. She looked at her mother, worn and withered in front of her, and couldn't help but grit her teeth and speak, "Do you... also think she was in the wrong?" Helen was shocked and looked up at her.
Adeline took a deep breath and lowered her head to cough lightly, "I used to work as a servant by Mr. Foster's side, and I've heard some rumors about madam." "I always thought they were just rumors, but hearing both of you say it today, I can't help but be curious... Mr. Foster's ex-wife, Miss Lauren's mother, what kind of person was she, really?"
She really wanted to know how her mother saw her. From childhood to adulthood, her mother had always been the one who loved her and understood her the most. She didn't believe that her mother would be like others and believe that she left because of an affair and caused the accident.
She hoped that, as a mother, her mom would definitely not believe Molly and Jasper's lies. But she was wrong. Helen sighed, "Adeline is a good child. However, ... people do make some foolish mistakes, don't they?" She forced a bitter smile and added, "Maybe that man was really good to her, so good that she didn't contact her family for six years."
After saying that, Helen scooped a spoonful of soup and brought it to Lauren's mouth, asking, "That uncle, is he good to your mommy?" Lauren didn't know what Helen had said to Adeline earlier and only heard the question about her uncle and mommy. Naturally, she thought of Brandon. So, the little girl smiled and happily replied, "Uncle Brandon not only treats mommy well but also treats me super well!" As she said that, a hint of delight flashed in Helen's eyes.
"We're good as long as she's fine..."
"Don't you hear that?" Molly glared at Adeline coldly. "You better focus on being a maid and stop meddling in other people's affairs. Do you really think we don't know what kind of person my sister is?!"
"Molly, let's eat." Helen fed Lauren while placing Molly's favorite dish in front of her. "You've been losing weight recently."
Molly was used to Helen's concern.
Without even saying thank you, she picked up her cutlery and began eating.
Adeline lowered her head, holding back her tears.
She had run out of energy to argue and fight with Molly.
So, it seems that so much has changed in her absence... this is what Mom thinks of her.
Her mother, who used to trust her unconditionally, has been brainwashed by Molly and no longer believes in her.
If only Mom could trust her a little, she would realize the flaws in Molly and Jasper's plan.
If only Mom could hold on a little longer, she would have the courage to secretly reveal her identity.
She had been away for too long and longed to crawl into her mother's arms and cry.
But there is distrust, misunderstanding, and unfamiliarity.
Tall walls stand in front of her, and she can only hide behind her mask and be a stranger in front of her biological mother.
The meal meant nothing to Adeline.
As she put down her cutlery, her phone rang.
It was Jasper calling.
She hurriedly stood up and went to the side to answer the call.
"After eating, bring Lauren back."
The man's voice on the phone was cold and deep. "Your son has informed me that you already know of Molly's ill-intent towards Lauren. Given this, how dare you take Lauren to have a meal with her?"
Adeline pursed her lips and glanced back at Helen, who was still happily coaxing Lauren. "It's... Lauren's grandmother... I thought since Lauren has just returned, her grandmother must really want to spend time with her, so..."
Jasper on the other end of the phone sneered. "When did you become so considerate?"
Adeline frowned, "When did I lose my consideration?"
"When dealing with me."
"Mr. Foster surely not? I wouldn't dare!"
There was silence on the other end of the line for a moment.
After a while, he continued coldly, "Bring Lauren back. Even if Helen likes her, Molly is there with her."
"Okay." After hanging up the phone, Adeline took a deep breath and walked up to Helen. "Mr. Foster wants me to bring Lauren back now."
Helen reluctantly handed Lauren to her, her eyes filled with melancholy.
Lauren let go and said, "I won't make things difficult for you. Let's go."
Adeline nodded and gave Helen a deep look before picking up Lauren and leaving in big strides.
"Let's continue shopping. Didn't you say you wanted to buy a dress?"
"Yeah, Mom, I'll buy something for you too."
"I'm not as vain as you..."
Adeline walked quickly while holding Lauren in her arms.
But the heartfelt voices of Molly and Helen, filled with motherly love, still reached her ears.
Once she was sure they were out of sight, Adeline even started running.
Only stopping when she could no longer hear their voices.
Touched, Lauren wiped Adeline's tears with her little hand and said, "Mommy, you're crying."
