Chapter 385 Don't Be Ungrateful
The office fell silent instantly.
Everyone looked at Jasper in shock.
In fact, everyone knew that Timothy, Anne, and Robert were considered Adeline's close confidants in the company.
And everyone in the design department was aware that Adeline and Jasper had once been lovers.
Now, with Jasper backing Luna, he was being so ruthless to Adeline?
Luna had just tried to smooth things over, and yet, here was Jasper suggesting they fire her colleagues..
"Jasper," Luna said, looking at Jasper, her eyes filled with gratitude. "I'm fine. Timothy, Anne, and Robert are Miss Wilson's assistants. She definitely wouldn't want them to be fired. Don't hurt your relationship with Miss Wilson because of me."
With Jasper's support, her words, although still gentle, now carried an additional note of pride.
Adeline stood still, her hands silently clenching at her sides.
She raised her head and looked coldly at Jasper as she spoke, "Why? Timothy, Robert, and Anne made significant contributions to the last jewelry project; even if there were no merits, their efforts were considerable."
Jasper crossed his arms and chuckled lightly."So, having contributions means they can bully newcomers? Knowing full well that Luna is my person, they still openly discussed driving her away? On her first day at work, didn't they cause Luna such harm?" he retorted.
Adeline narrowed her eyes, annoyed. She glanced at the almost dried coffee stain on Luna's chest and recalled Anne's grimacing face from earlier.A trace of coldness appeared on Adeline's face.
She didn't want to argue over such meaningless matters so soon after returning to the company, so she tried to avoid conflicts. Adeline was even willing to admit that it was Timothy, Anne, and Robert's fault and flatter Luna.
Although Luna was reluctant, she didn't pursue the matter further for the sake of her image.
But Jasper didn't want to let it go. He couldn't stand to see Luna being wronged.
Thinking of this, Adeline's gaze towards Jasper grew even colder.
Although she hadn’t been present when the incident happened, she didn't believe that Timothy, Anne, and Robert would still go against her wishes after she had clearly refused their suggestion about the plan to get rid of Luna. Even if they did insist on driving Luna away, they wouldn’t use such a foolish and clumsy method.
Adeline took a deep breath and smirked. "Mr. Foster said that Timothy, Anne, and Robert deliberately harmed Ms. Jones, right?"
"Of course," Jasper replied, narrowing his eyes coldly. "Isn't that the truth?"
"I'll take it as the truth," Adeline said, crossing her arms and leaned coldly against the filing cabinet, her voice and gaze icy. "How well do you all think Anne knows Ms. Jones?
Adeline's question made the office fall silent again.Everyone looked at Adeline in confusion.How well could Anne know Luna? Wasn't today their first meeting?
"Then you two speak up," Adeline said, pointing to the man and woman who had just defended Luna. "You tell me, how well does Anne know Ms. Jones?"
The man and woman exchanged glances and tentatively replied, "They probably don't know each other well, right? Since today is their first meeting and they don't know each other at all."
Adeline sneered, "So, you all still believe that Anne intentionally startled Ms. Jones as she walked by, causing her to spill her coffee, right?"
Everyone nodded in unison.
Adeline sighed, straightened up, and stretched. "Since they don't know each other at all and today is their first meeting, how would Anne know whether Ms. Jones is brave or timid?
"How would Anne anticipate the loudness of the noise could startleMs. Jones when she walked by, and how would she know that Ms. Jones would react by spilling her coffee?"
After saying this, Adeline glanced at the woman who had spoken up for Luna. "When you're walking with a cup of coffee and someone makes a noise, do you really lose your balance and spill every last drop?"
The woman was at a loss for words.
The office fell silent again.
In the sudden silence, Adeline's indifferent and clear voice stood out."Or we could check the surveillance footage to see if Anne was particularly focused on Ms. Jones before and during the noise.
"If not, then how would Anne know that Ms. Jones would definitely walk by her and be startled?"
Adeline turned her serious gaze to Jasper and suggested, "Mr. Foster, let's check the surveillance footage."
Jasper wanted to take this seriously. He wanted to stand up for his Luna. She needed to see what really happened!
Adeline's suggestion made Luna look a bit uneasy.
Luna coughed lightly, gave Adeline a gentle look, and then turned to Jasper. "Actually, I wasn't really hurt. Why don't we just let this go? It wasn't a big deal to begin with."
If they checked the surveillance footage, wouldn't it reveal that she had intentionally walked by Anne, deliberately slowed down, and waited for Anne to make a noise before spilling her coffee?
Thinking of this, Luna gently held Jasper's sleeve. She insisted, "Jasper, you're just too worried about me. Really, I'm fine.
"It's just a small matter, no need to go through the trouble of checking the surveillance footage. Let's just drop it."
She then gave Adeline a gentle look, her voice sweet and soft. "Miss Wilson, I called Jasper over just because Ms. Garcia said I needed to go to the hospital for my injury.
"I absolutely didn't mean for Jasper to fire them. Please don't misunderstand."
After saying this, she looked at Adeline very seriously. "Miss Wilson, don't worry. I won't let Jasper really fire them.
"It's my first day at work. Let's not make it so unpleasant."
Luna lifted her head and gazed tenderly at Jasper as she spoke to him, "Jasper, don't you think so?
"This may be a small matter to Ms. Jones, but not to me."
Seeing Luna's softened attitude, Adeline became even more convinced of her suspicions.Anne definitely didn't do it on purpose! Otherwise, Luna wouldn't be against checking the surveillance footage!
She thought of Anne's painful expression when Timothy and Robert took her away.A whole cup of scalding hot coffee, except for the bit that splashed on Luna's chest, had almost entirely spilled on Anne's back!
So, Luna got splashed, and Jasper wanted to stand up for her. But Anne got burned over a large area of her body, and yet it should just be let go, just like that?
Earlier, Adeline wanted to smooth things over, but Jasper disagreed and insisted on standing up for Luna.
Now, she would stand up for Anne!
Thinking of this, Adeline pulled over a chair and elegantly sat down, her eyes coldly fixed on Jasper. She analyzed, "This matter must be clarified.
"On Ms. Jones' first day working here, she got startled and spilled her coffee. Now my three assistants are to be fired for allegedly trying to drive Ms. Jones away.
"What about the second day, the third day? Will everyone who makes Ms. Jones unhappy be accused of having bad intentions and get fired?
"In a week, will I, the design director, have to give up my position to Ms. Jones?"
Adeline's words made Jasper's face darken.He lowered his voice, "Adeline! Luna is already pleading for you. Don't be ungrateful!"
"Am I not stating the facts?" Adeline replied coldly, her voice arrogant. "Lucia, go to the control room and get the surveillance footage.
"I want to see if Anne deliberately scared Ms. Jones to drive her away, or if Luna is making false accusations against my people!"
