Chapter 121 You're Being Followed

"Jasper, I've had feelings for you way before Adeline did!"

Molly's gaze was vibrant, reminiscent of a starving beggar who had just spotted a meaty bun.

Her madness was tinged with a desperate urgency.

She fixated on Jasper's face. "If you could fall for Adeline, why can't those feelings extend to me?"

As she spoke, her limbs flailed.

The room was filled with her deranged voice, accompanied by the clinking of handcuffs and leg irons.

Jasper's brows knotted tightly.

"It seems living here suits you just fine."

The man stood up. His deep eyes were devoid of warmth. "But there's something I need to tell you."

"First, you keep saying Adeline is dead, but she's not.

"Second, I'll keep waiting for her to return, and you'll wait, too.

"And finally..."

He gave her a chilling look and continued, "I've never betrayed Adeline."

He admitted there was something slightly different about his feelings for Adeline.

But he figured it was just because she resembled Adeline, nothing more.

"I always thought of you as her beloved sister, and so I indulged you and gave way to you.

"But I couldn’t pay attention to what was inside of you."

His lips curled coldly. "Had I known what was there in your heart, I would have brought you here sooner."

With those words, the man turned and left.

"Do you dare swear you won't fall in love with Adeline?"

Molly's voice trailed him insistently, clinging to his retreating figure. "Since you claim to love Adeline, take an oath then. Swear you'll never fall for her in this lifetime!"

He paused for a moment in his steps.

Without turning his head, he chuckled softly, "Why should I make promises to a madwoman?"

And with that, the door shut with a resounding bang.
Molly sat in the room, stunned, staring at the heavy iron door that had just closed.

After a moment, she rose wildly and kicked over the table before her!

She couldn't stay here any longer.

Adeline was Adeline herself!
If she stayed, Adeline's true identity would inevitably be exposed sooner.
If Jasper recognized her, all hell would break loose over what had happened before!

Molly clenched her teeth desperately.
She had to find a way out.
She just had to!

...

At the entrance to the psychiatric clinic, a Maserati sat idling. Ryan was behind the wheel, eyes closed in repose, and Adeline leaned in the back seat, flipping through the day's news.
When Jasper slid into the car, the woman lifted her eyelids slightly. "Done chatting with the ex-fiancée?"
"Done," Jasper said, his gaze fixed ahead. "Ryan, let's head home."
Ryan perked up and smoothly started the car.

Adeline turned to gaze out the window.
"Molly was never pregnant."
After a moment, a deep and indifferent voice rose from behind her.
She frowned and turned to face him.
Jasper kept his eyes on the road, his voice low and severe, "The procedure she had at the hospital wasn't for an abortion."

He couldn't bring himself to tell Adeline directly that Molly had undergone reconstructive surgery, thinking it would lead to a closer relationship between them.
"Is that so?" Adeline asked, her lips curling into a scornful smile. "Mr. Foster, you spent all that time inside just to come out with that bit of information?"
"Tell Adeline," the man said, his eyes closing and his face showing traces of exhaustion, "Molly never carried my child. She and I, nothing ever happened."
He didn't understand why Adeline harbored such wild misunderstandings about him.
But if Adeline herself had voiced these misunderstandings, he needed to set the record straight.
Now that he couldn't contact Adeline directly, he could only rely on Adeline as a messenger.
Adeline chuckled coldly, "Do you think she'll believe you?"
The man's lips twisted into a cold smile, "If she doesn't believe it, she's welcome to confront me in person."
His words effectively choked off any response Adeline might have had.
She paused.
After a moment, the woman laughed coldly. "I'll pass the message on."
Jasper must be so brave because he was sure Adeline herself would not show up to confront him in person, right?
If she faced him as Adeline, whether she would live to tell the tale was anybody's guess!

The air in the car grew silent, both occupants wordless.
Soon, Ryan pulled into Blue Bay.
As the car stopped, Jasper opened the door and stepped out without another word.
Adeline sighed and hastily got into her car, trailing behind him into the property.

Beep-beep-beep-beep-beep!

Beep-beep-beep-beep-beep!

The villa's alarm system went off in a frantic blare when Adeline stepped onto the Blue Bay estate.

Jasper frowned coldly and cast a glance back at her.

Adeline herself was utterly baffled.

She instinctively took a step back.

The alarm fell silent.

She moved forward again.

Beep-beep-beep-beep-beep!

"What are you carrying?" The man's brow furrowed as he walked in. "The alarm is set to detect bugs and trackers. What do you have on you?"

Adeline looked perplexed. "Nothing at all."

But the shrill sound of the alarm persisted.

"Take off your clothes!" he commanded, a stern edge to his voice.

Adeline pursed her lips, visibly disgruntled, but obediently shed her coat.

Jasper snatched the coat from her and hurled it across the room.

The noise from the alarm abruptly ceased.

"It's in the coat."

Ryan dashed over and rummaged through the coat, eventually finding a tiny black chip hidden behind the garment's brand label.

"It's a tracking device."

Ryan crushed the chip with his pocket knife. "Adeline, who's had access to your coat?"

Adeline furrowed her brow in thought.

An image of Mia Turner's flustered face came to mind.

She slapped her forehead in realization. "It was her!"

When she went to the design department to fetch her coat, Mia Turner pretended to admire her sketches.

Adeline thought she was just looking at the designs, unaware that Mia Turner had tampered with her clothing!

"Someone from the company?" Jasper's expression grew tense as he pulled Adeline back to the car. "Ryan, drive to the office!"

Ryan quickly jumped into the driver's seat, not daring to delay.

When Adeline reached the office, they were informed that Mia Turner had called in sick and had already left.

"Just as I was seeing a client out, I saw Mia Turner get on the bus number 2," a coworker said with a frown. "Mia doesn't usually take that bus. No idea where she went."

A wave of darkness threatened to overcome Adeline.

The terminal station for the number 2 bus was the psychiatric hospital where Molly was!

Mia Turner was using her to find Molly's location!
