Chapter 884 What Happened to Linda?
Tamsin's words made Adeline swallow back everything she was about to say.
She stared at her phone in shock. "How is this possible?"
Even though she had been drunk and out of it last night, she vaguely remembered offending Hugo.
Plus, she had crashed Hugo's party uninvited, while Jasper was a guest of honor. This deal should have gone to the Foster Group, no question.
But now Tamsin was saying Hugo had agreed to the deal and they were signing the contract this afternoon?
Adeline bit her lip and gripped her phone tightly. "How did Hugo agree so easily?"
"It wasn't easy at all," Tamsin chuckled. "I spent a lot of time last night making it happen."
"I'll tell you the details after you sign the contract. For now, just know that our first battle is a success, thanks to you. Once this deal is signed, our reputation at the Phoebe Group will be solid."
Adeline took a deep breath. "That's fantastic!"
This was the best news she'd heard in days. With this deal, she would not only earn the trust of the Phoebe Group employees but also boost morale, showing everyone that she and Oliver could lead the company through tough times.
After the initial excitement, Adeline took another deep breath and asked the question that had been bothering her.
"Tamsin, I still want to know why, when I called for help last night, neither you nor the bodyguards responded?"
She was really concerned about this. It was lucky Jasper had shown up in time last night. But what if it happened again? She couldn't always count on Jasper to swoop in and save her.
Tamsin was silent for a moment. Finally, she sighed. "Adeline, about that..."
"Adeline!" A male voice interrupted from behind her.
Tamsin immediately recognized it as Oliver's. She quickly changed the subject. "Are you with Oliver?"
"Now's not a good time to talk. I can't let Oliver know I'm back. Let's discuss everything after you sign the contract with Hugo this afternoon, okay?"
Adeline had no choice but to agree, especially since Oliver was now right beside her. She quickly hung up the phone.
"Who were you talking to?" Oliver asked, frowning as he saw her hastily put away her phone.
Adeline's eyes flickered with panic. After a moment, she smiled and grabbed Oliver's arm. "Are you feeling better?"
She hadn't forgotten that Oliver had left earlier because he heard Mia and Dennis were together early in the morning.
He nodded slightly. "Dennis called me back. He said Nova and Joseph stayed at Mia's last night because Clementine had a fever. Nova called Dennis to come treat her."
"There's nothing going on between them."
Oliver gave Adeline a meaningful look. "You know, they say a woman's emotions can really affect her baby during pregnancy. But Dennis said once the kid hits a year old, their immune system gets stronger."
Adeline frowned slightly as Oliver talked about Clementine. She didn't even know who Clementine's mother was.
She looked at Oliver cautiously. "Was Clementine's mom really emotional during her pregnancy?"
"Very," Oliver said, looking deeply at Adeline. "She went through a lot. It was heartbreaking."
His words, filled with tenderness, made Adeline's heart tremble. It seemed Oliver had feelings for Clementine's biological mother.
Her parents had always said Oliver was simple when it came to relationships. But Adeline didn't think so. The women around him—Tamsin, Joseph's mom, Clementine's mom, and Mia—she knew of at least four.
How could someone with such a complicated love life be considered simple?
Adeline bit her lip and lowered her voice. "So, do you like Mia more, or Clementine's mom?"
Oliver laughed. "Of course, I like..."
He stopped abruptly, looking at Adeline. Her expression made him realize she had misunderstood something.
He rubbed his forehead, unsure how to explain. "Well..."
He cleared his throat and changed the subject. "I just got word that Hugo agreed to sign the contract with the Phoebe Group."
He glanced at Adeline. "But Jasper told me you offended Hugo last night. What happened?"
"Why did you go to Hugo's party? Why were you drugged? Who put you up to this?"
Oliver's questions came rapid-fire, leaving Adeline no room to respond. She bit her lip and took the blame. "It was my plan."
Oliver didn't believe her. "Your plan? You bribed Allan, you wanted to attend a partner-swapping party for fun, and you knowingly drank a drugged drink?"
Adeline's eyes darkened. Jasper had already asked her these questions. She didn't know the answers.
To protect Tamsin's identity, she gritted her teeth. "Yes, it was all my plan."
"Your eyes betray you," Oliver said. He could tell she was lying. "Someone's advising you. Who is it?"
Adeline stepped back, about to say something when Sebastian ran up, out of breath.
"Who were you talking to?" he asked. "You almost missed Linda's call for help."
Adeline's mind went blank. "Help call? What happened to Linda?"
Sebastian, clutching his chest, said urgently, "Linda's been locked up by David. She's badly hurt, but David's ignoring her. He ordered that she can't leave the room without his permission."
