Chapter 55 He Is More Injured Than You

Thick smoke filled the air.

The room was filled with flames and a choking smell.

There were highly flammable objects all over the room, along with several kilograms of blueprints.

The fire was spreading rapidly.

Adeline didn't have time to think about who wanted to put them in danger, but she knew they had to survive!

At least Lauren had to survive!

She wrapped Lauren's entire body in a wet towel.

Adeline found a rope in the room and tied it around Lauren. "Do you remember the survival skills Uncle Brandon taught you?"

"Yes, I remember."

Tears filled Lauren's eyes as she hugged her. "But mommy, I'd rather die with you than go alone!"

"Listen to me. I have a plan." Adeline took a deep breath. "There are people outside. I'll lower you through the window. Three floors down from ours, there's a kind elderly couple. Go to their balcony and ask them for help. Then contact your brother and call the police. Remember, don't leave their house until the police arrive, understood?"

She was afraid that Molly's people might be downstairs too.

Since Molly had resorted to violence, she couldn't afford to make mistakes.

"Mommy..."

The little girl cried as Adeline brought her to the window. "If only I had listened to you earlier."

"Blake didn't agree with your return!" Lauren thought that after coming back to the country, her biological father would let go of the past and provide a warm home for their family.

But what happened?

Mommy repeatedly fell into danger, and they couldn't do anything about it.

Adeline rubbed her daughter's head and said, "Don't worry. I won't die. Go ahead."

"Okay." The little girl wiped her tears and carefully grabbed the rope, descending from the outer wall of the building bit by bit.

Uncle Brandon had trained the three of them, and Lauren was the most outstanding. She still had this survival skill.

Standing at the window, Adeline watched as Lauren descended while screaming, coughing, and calling for help. She couldn't let the people outside suspect anything until Lauren was out of danger.

The fire raged on. The crackling sound, the coughing, and the cries of women echoed continuously in the corridor.

Finally, Lauren was safe.

Leaning against the wall, Adeline watched as the rope finally stopped moving and let out a relieved smile.

She should have escaped at this moment, but just sending Lauren away had already exhausted too much of her energy.

Coupled with the poisonous gas generated by the burning air, she couldn't summon any strength. Is this the end?

She was slightly unwilling. She didn't expect Molly to become so crazy.

Before, Adeline thought only Jasper was ruthless. But now, she realized that her once good sister Molly was just as heartless, if not worse than Jasper.

They were truly made for each other.

Her vision gradually blurred.

Before losing consciousness, she seemed to see the door being kicked open. A worried and anxious Jasper rushed in and embraced her. This was a dream, right?

His embrace was both unfamiliar and familiar, but it was warm enough to make her want to cry. And she did cry. Because only in her dreams could she see this gentle and concerned Jasper.

She had loved him for so many years, and he never gave her any response.

But in this dream, she could clearly feel Jasper's anxiety and his deep affection.

"You'll be fine." In a daze, she heard the man's deep voice repeating these words. She smiled bitterly.

It would be so good if this dream could continue without waking up.

Adeline woke up again the next morning.

Before she had a chance to open her eyes, the scent of disinfectant filled her nostrils. She furrowed her brow and slowly used her remaining strength to open her eyes.

This was a hospital.

More precisely, it was the intensive care unit of the hospital.

There was another man in the ward.

He was wearing an oxygen mask and lying quietly in the bed next to her.

The man's deep, unreadable eyes were tightly closed.

The morning sunlight shone in from the window, softening the cold lines on his face.

Jasper?

"You're awake." The nurse who came in looked at her in surprise. "Don't move! I'll go find the doctor."

"Wait." Adeline frowned and pointed at Jasper. "What happened to him?"

"Your husband had a conflict with someone outside the room yesterday. He was stabbed in the abdomen. Then he rushed into the fire to carry you all the way to the hospital. He lost a lot of blood. The wound got infected too, and he's currently in a coma due to gas poisoning."

The nurse sighed. "You're awake, but his condition is much more serious than yours. It's still unknown when he'll wake up."

The nurse's words made Adeline's heart tighten slightly.

She turned her head and looked at the man lying on the bed.

Why did he rush in to save her?

Six years ago, she was his wife. But because she hindered his relationship with Molly, he decisively sentenced her to death.

Six years later, she was a servant in his house. She retaliated against Molly, yet he was able to rush into the fire to save her.

Was she now so important, or was the person she was six years ago so insignificant?

Adeline closed her eyes. She felt like there were countless knives cutting through her heart.

The better he treated her now, the more it proved how much of a failure and pathetic creature she was six years ago.

She didn't even know how she should regard him or what kind of emotions she should have toward him.

Soon, the doctor arrived.

After conducting a thorough examination, the doctor confirmed that she was fine and transferred her to another ward.

As the nurse pushed her out of the intensive care unit, Adeline subconsciously glanced at the man wearing the oxygen mask, who was still in a coma.

For some reason, she blurted out, "If you don't wake up, you'll never see your wife again."

After saying that, she was pushed out of the room by the nurse.

Adeline looked at the hospital corridor's ceiling lights and smiled bitterly.

She was truly ridiculous. He had never liked her, nor did he ever care about her.

How could such a statement affect him?

To him, she had always been an insignificant person.

The nurse pushed Adeline into the elevator.

Before the elevator doors closed, another nurse hurriedly ran over to stop them. "Mr. Foster has woken up. He said he wanted to see the person who spoke to him just now."
