Chapter 620 The Dead Cannot Be Brought Back to Life

Mia floored it in her Ferrari, speeding like a bat out of hell.

From the old factory in the suburbs to Blue Bay, a trip that usually took half an hour, she made it in under fifteen minutes.

Back at Blue Bay, Adeline jumped out of the car and bolted straight to the study upstairs.

Mia trailed behind, watching her frantic figure, and sighed.

Ever since she met Adeline, she’d heard her say a million times, "I stopped liking Jasper ages ago. I hate his guts now. I’ll never like him again." And other similar stuff, full of determination and bitterness.

But now, with Jasper in trouble, Adeline was more worried about him than anyone. She was even ready to whip out their marriage certificate to protect Jasper's hard-earned success, putting herself at risk.

Even if Adeline wasn’t doing this willingly, the news of her engagement to Rex had been all over the place a few days ago.

Now, everyone in the city knew Adeline and Rex were engaged.

If Adeline showed up with the marriage certificate just as Rex was about to inherit Jasper's assets and caused a scene, it could be total chaos.

Thinking about it, Mia sighed again. She was sure Adeline had thought it through.

But Adeline still rushed upstairs to find the marriage certificate without a second thought.

"Mia." In the living room, Lauren got off the couch, blinked her big eyes, and walked up to Mia, looking seriously at her face. "Did they find Daddy? Why did Mommy run upstairs?"

Mia snapped back to reality, bent down, and hugged Lauren. "Your mommy is trying to protect your family."

After Adeline rushed into the study, she quickly found the safe.

While others might struggle to locate Jasper's safe, for her, it was a piece of cake.

Six years ago, Adeline used to clean Jasper's study meticulously every day. She knew where everything was, even better than Jasper himself.

In the past six years, everything in the study stayed the same; nothing had been moved.

After finding the safe, Adeline took a deep breath and, as Jason had said, entered their wedding anniversary as the password.

With a click, the safe door popped open, revealing two documents, several photographs, and a pair of jewelry boxes.

Adeline paused and took out the items inside. The two documents were her and Jasper's marriage certificates from years ago. The photos were among the few they had taken together. Back then, she leaned against him, smiling sweetly.

There were also two jewelry boxes.

One contained a ring she had designed out of boredom at home six years ago before everything went down, with their initials, W&F, engraved inside.

The other was a gift from Jasper on her last birthday, which she had accidentally knocked to the ground. It was her first piece of work abroad, something she always wanted to buy back but never managed to.

Holding the two jewelry boxes, she felt a pang of sadness.

She always thought Jasper didn’t understand her, but it seemed no one knew her better. Jasper knew what mattered most to her: her first design and the first piece of jewelry she made by hand. He had kept them all, planning to give them back to her. But she never got them.

Adeline sniffled, put the jewelry boxes and photos back in the safe, grabbed the marriage certificates, and headed downstairs.

Downstairs, Mia was comforting Lauren and Blake, "Your daddy's got luck on his side; he'll be found soon enough. Your whole family is amazing. Remember how your mommy survived that life-threatening situation six years ago? Your daddy will pull through too!"

Hearing this, Adeline felt even more emotional. She sniffed and said, "Mia, let's go."

Mia snapped out of it and quickly led her out of the villa and into the car.

When they got to the press conference hosted by Nathan and Rex, the reporters were already set up.

The press conference had a very serious vibe.

Nathan sat on the stage, speaking into the microphone with a pained look, occasionally squeezing out a few tears. "Jasper is our family's pride! He grew up without a mother, and I failed as a father. He was raised by his grandmother and took over the Foster Group at seventeen, keeping it afloat during the toughest times. It wasn't easy."

He added, "Everyone calls him a genius, but only we, his true family, know the immense effort behind his success in leading the Foster Group to where it is now."

Nathan wiped his tears, looking every bit the grieving father who had lost his son. "I'm really heartbroken over what happened to him, but as his family, our focus now must be getting the Foster Group back on track. So, I'd like to introduce my other son, Rex."

He continued, "Although Rex didn't grow up in the Foster family, he is still our blood. He is honest and sincere, and I think he is the most suitable person to inherit Jasper's company. I also believe that Rex will continue Jasper's legacy, growing the Foster Group and realizing the dream of expanding into overseas markets."

Standing at the entrance, listening to Nathan's words, Adeline clenched her fists tightly.

It was so hypocritical of Nathan to shed a few tears and speak words of regret and remembrance for Jasper!

In fact, his words of regret for Jasper didn't even last five minutes; the rest was all about having Rex inherit the Foster Group.

Nathan couldn't have cared less about whether Jasper lived or died. All that mattered to him was ensuring Rex inherited the Foster Group's assets.

"I now announce, as Jasper's biological father, that all his assets will be transferred to Rex."

"What right do you have?" Suddenly, Adeline's cold voice cut through Nathan's speech.

Everyone quickly turned to the door.

Adeline, wearing a dirty dress, slowly walked in from the entrance. "Jasper's fate is still uncertain, and the rescue team is still working hard. As Jasper's biological father, how can you just declare him dead?"

She added, "Do you really regret Jasper, fearing his company will fall into chaos? Or do you just want your useless illegitimate son to quickly snatch up Jasper's assets?"
