Chapter 731 Mrs. Phoebe Seriously Ill

By the time Adeline got home, it was almost completely dark outside.

Mia was sprawled out on the couch, and as soon as she saw Adeline walk through the door, she jumped up and hugged her tightly.

"Thank God you're okay!"

Mia's sudden and forceful embrace nearly knocked Adeline off her feet.

Adeline steadied herself after a couple of steps. "What's going on?"

"Just now, the news reported a shooting at Lucky Restaurant. Brandon got hurt. I thought..."

Mia's words left Adeline momentarily stunned.

She quickly looked up.

The TV was broadcasting the details of the Lucky Restaurant shooting.

The female anchor's cold voice narrated, "The shooting happened suddenly. By the time everyone realized what was going on, Mr. Brandon Torres had already been shot in both legs. The shooter left only a glimpse of his back. Fortunately, Brandon had already lost feeling in his legs due to a car accident a month ago. The bullets hit his legs, so the Torres family has stated that Brandon is not in immediate danger. However, due to the surveillance being completely destroyed, we only have a view of the shooter's back..."

Adeline frowned, staring at the figure on the screen.

The man, dressed entirely in black and wearing sunglasses, was hard to identify from behind. But Adeline knew him too well; she could recognize him by his silhouette alone. Her heart sank.

"There are various speculations about the shooter's motive. Some say he suspected Brandon' legs weren't actually paralyzed, so he shot them. Others say the shooter was unaware of Mr. Torres' condition..."

Listening to the anchor's voice, Adeline felt a twinge of sarcasm.

There was another possibility: someone had been trying to see her but couldn't, and when Brandon invited her, she went.

So, he wanted to vent his anger but was afraid of truly hurting Brandon and losing her forgiveness, so he shot Brandon's legs.

"I'm fine, Mia. The shooting happened after I left."

Adeline was silent for a long time before exhaling. "It was Jasper."

Mia looked up in shock. "Jasper? How is that possible? Oceancrest City is the territory of the Torres and Phoebe families! Shooting Brandon on enemy turf. Is he crazy?"

Adeline smirked coldly. "Maybe he is."

After briefly comforting Mia, Adeline went to her room, feeling conflicted.

Lying on her bed, all she could see was the image of Jasper from the surveillance footage.

She had thought that his constant attempts to change his appearance and send her voice recordings over the past few days meant he realized his mistakes and was trying to make amends. But what was the result?

Just because she had dinner with Brandon, he decided to shoot Brandon's legs?

What if Brandon's legs could have been saved? What if his bullets made it impossible for Brandon to recover?

Did he ever consider that Brandon, besides being his rival, was also the one who saved her and her three children?

Adeline closed her eyes.

Jasper was still as self-centered as ever, always putting her last.

If he had considered her feelings even a little, he wouldn't have done such a thing!

Just then, a servant knocked on the door. "Miss Wilson, Mr. Foster's voice recorder for today..."

Adeline pulled the blanket over herself and spoke muffledly, "Throw it away. I don't want to listen to it anymore."

The servant hesitated outside the door for a moment before placing the recorder in Adeline's suitcase.

Hearing the servant leave, Adeline closed her eyes, a bitter smile on her lips.

Why did she believe that Jasper, a self-centered man who never admitted his mistakes, would change for her in just half a month? She must have been blinded by Jasper's sweet talk these past few days.

Swan Villa.

Jasper handed the silver-gray handgun back to Oliver. "Thanks."

Oliver glanced at the gun and tossed it into the trash can. "It's useless now."

Jasper smirked, understanding his meaning. "This gun and its bullets could reveal your identity?"

Oliver nodded gracefully, leaning back in his chair. "They're custom-made by the Phoebe family. Besides Howard, I'm the only one who has them."

Jasper narrowed his eyes. "And you still chose to lend it to me?"

"I can always claim you stole it from me." Oliver chuckled, giving Jasper a sidelong glance. "After all, you're already a villain in the eyes of the Phoebe family."

Jasper paused before finally looking up. "What kind of person is Zara?"

Oliver was surprised by the sudden question about Zara and responded calmly, "She's a kind and gentle woman. Even though she's not my biological mother, before I knew about Esther, I truly considered her my real mother."

Oliver sighed. "She gave everything to raise Daisy and me as her own children. All these years, she made me feel happy. But one of us is my father's biological child, not hers. The other was completely switched at birth."

Oliver's words made Jasper's eyes narrow slightly.

He recalled Zara's gentle voice when she brought soup last night.

Jasper cleared his throat lightly. "Does she have a man by her side who always wears gold-rimmed glasses and black clothes?"

"Are you talking about Lorenzo?" Oliver smiled faintly. "He is a master poisoner, proud of his high-grade smoke bombs. But since the Phoebe family stopped dealing in poisons, he lost his job. So he ended up working for Zara."

Oliver raised an eyebrow at Jasper. "How do you know him?"

Jasper was silent for a while, about to say something when Oliver's phone rang.

It was a call from the Phoebe Mansion.

"Mr. Phoebe! You need to come back quickly!" The butler's voice on the other end was panicked and hoarse. "Mrs. Phoebe just collapsed and was taken to the hospital! She said she knows about poisons, but this time it looks bad! You need to come see her!"
