Chapter 53 Never Coming Back

After Jasper left, Lauren also woke up and went downstairs.

The little girl, wearing pink cartoon pajamas, sat at the dining table. "Why did Daddy leave so early?"

Adeline narrowed her brows. "Lauren."

"Yes?"

After observing that everyone in the house had gone out with Jasper, Adeline took a deep breath and lowered her voice. "If I'm not by your side in the future, you have to take good care of yourself, understood?"

Lauren put the milk she was about to drink back down. "Mommy, why won't you be by my side? Are they trying to drive you away?"

Adeline neither confirmed nor denied it. "I just want you to learn to be independent."

Lauren pursed her lips. "I don't want to be independent. After becoming independent, mommy and my brothers won't take care of me anymore."

The little girl ate her breakfast angrily. "I don't want to be independent. I don't want to be sensible. I don't want to grow up!"

Sitting in front of Lauren, Adeline looked at her helplessly and let out a long sigh.

She took out her phone and found the tracking number for the jewelry materials Brandon had sent her.

The search results showed that Brandon had used the fastest express delivery for her, but from Europe to Denver, the journey was still long.

It would take at least one more day for those things to arrive.

And two days later would be Grandma Foster's birthday banquet.

She only had one day left.

She looked at the little girl in front of her. "How long has it been since you last painted?"

Upon hearing the word "painting", Lauren's eyes instantly lit up!

Like Adeline, Lauren had a passion for art and design.

But her health was too weak, and when she was abroad, she would often spend an entire day in the art studio without sleep.

Later on, in order to protect her health, Adeline forbade her from painting.

Now that she brought up the topic again, Lauren was excited to the point of almost jumping off her chair.

Her big, watery eyes sparkled with excitement. "Mommy, can I paint now?"

"Yes." Adeline smiled faintly. "Eat quickly. Tell your father later so that he can prepare a studio for you."

"Okay!" Lauren started devouring the corn chowder. "After I finish eating, I'll message Dad!"

"No rush." Adeline raised her hand and rubbed Lauren's little head. "I'll be going back to the rental house later. Will you come with me?"

Previously, Bennett had sent back the design drafts from abroad without permission, but now they came in handy.

...

Hospital

Jasper had just come down from the elevator when Molly, who had been sitting outside the resuscitation room wiping away tears, rushed up to him.

"Jasper, why did you come so late?"

She reached out and grabbed Jasper's arm. "Grandma has been inside all night! I'm so worried. I can't stop crying!"

Jasper looked at her, smiled lightly, and pulled his arm away.

The Foster family's butler was standing at the entrance of the resuscitation room. Upon seeing Jasper, the butler's face immediately turned serious. "Sir, you shouldn't have come at this time."

Jasper curled his lips. He raised his voice a bit and said, "Grandma, I'm here. Come out."

His words instantly silenced the corridor in the hospital.

After a long time, the door of the resuscitation room opened.

The drowsy doctor forced himself to be alert and began to explain the condition seriously. "Grandma Foster has acute inflammation of the heart..."

"I know." Jasper pushed the doctor aside and walked in with big strides.

Grandma Foster, wearing striped pajamas, lay pale on the bed. "Jasper, you're here."

"I was so upset that I ended up in the hospital. Are you still not going to dismiss that maid?"

Jasper pulled a chair over and leaned against it. "What has Molly given you? Is it worth doing so much for her?"

Upon hearing this, Grandma Foster became displeased. "Jasper, what do you mean? I got sick because of you! You think it's all an act, don't you?"

The man waved his hand. "If you're really sick, I'll get the best doctor to come and take care of you. But you're not sick."

He turned his head and glanced at Molly, who was standing at the door of the ward. "Crying with swollen eyes? Is it worth it?"

Molly bit her lip softly. "I'm just worried about Grandma."

Jasper snorted coldly. He ignored her and turned to Grandma Foster. "At your age, the last thing you should mention is getting sick. Why did you come to the hospital without being sick? Isn't that bad luck?"

Grandma Foster's complexion turned pale.

"Alright, I know what your condition is like. Every week, I send the best doctor to take care of you. Didn't the doctor give you a thorough check-up? It was just three days ago when you had your examination. High blood pressure, thrombosis, and hyperlipidemia. Do you really think I would believe it?"

Grandma Foster's face turned pale. She sneered, "I'm doing this for your own good! If you had listened to me and fired that maid, would I have acted like this at my age?"

Jasper sighed helplessly. "Grandma, I've told you many times. I won't fire Adeline."

"Why?" Grandma Foster asked.

"I have my reasons, and you'll find out after your birthday," Jasper replied.

Grandma Foster pursed her lips. "You're just trying to fool me."

Standing at the doorway, Molly felt a wave of disappointment and frustration as she watched Jasper pacify Grandma Foster. Her plan had failed once again.

Grandma Foster was her last card to play. Now that Grandma Foster had been won over by Jasper, what else could she do to continue her fight?

With these thoughts in mind, a strong sense of hatred surged in Molly's eyes. It was all because of Lauren and that maid!

At that moment, Molly received a phone call. She narrowed her eyes when she saw the number. She turned around and walked into the staircase. She made sure no one was around and then answered the call.

"Very well."

She smirked, her lips curling coldly. "So, are you sure that woman and the little girl left Blue Bay?"

"A rental house in the suburbs?"

Molly's eyes narrowed. "Since they've left Blue Bay, don't let them come back!"

...

Inside the rental house in the suburbs, Adeline searched through the heavy pile of papers for a long time before finally finding the Counting Stars draft. She struggled to take it out and put the rest back in place.

"Mama!" Suddenly, Lauren's anxious voice came from afar. "The door won't open!"

Adeline froze for a moment and quickly rushed out with the draft in her hand. Lauren was already at the door, her eyes reddened from worry. "Mama, I heard footsteps, so I wanted to see if someone was here, but then the door got locked!"

Tears were streaming down her face. "I've tried several times, but the door won't open!"

The door wouldn't open. Adeline felt her head explode in an instant.

Someone had locked the door from the outside.

What were they planning to do?

She quickly took out her phone.

As expected, there was no signal.
