Chapter 821 What If

One sentence drained all the color from Lucy's face.

She bit her lip and lowered her head in defeat.

"I..."

Lucy finally took a deep breath and knelt in front of Adeline, confessing everything:

"I wasn't sent by Jasper."

"I was sent by Mr. Torres. When Mr. Phoebe was selecting servants for you, Ms. Wilson, I received orders from Mr. Torres to infiltrate."

"Everything I've done during this time was under the instructions of Mr. Torres and Ms. Phoebe."

"The child's hair and blood, Ms. Wilson, were collected on Mr. Torres's orders. He said..."

Lucy, lying on the ground, glanced cautiously at Brandon before taking another deep breath.

"He said he was afraid that once your child was born, Jasper would take him away, and you wouldn't be able to find him. So he had me collect the hair and blood right after the birth."

"But neither Mr. Torres nor I expected your child to die."

"The crying sounds and the children's clothes were all arranged by Ms. Phoebe."

"She said she couldn't let you, Ms. Wilson, easily recover from the pain of losing your child."

Finally, Lucy almost pressed herself to the ground. "The money in my bank account was given by Mr. Torres."

"The ointment for Mrs. Phoebe was given to me by Ms. Phoebe this morning. Mr. Torres told me to wait for his signal before applying it."

"When Mr. Foster arrived today, Mr. Torres knew and told me to apply it."

After speaking, she fearfully began to kowtow to Adeline, her forehead hitting the ground repeatedly.

"Ms. Wilson, I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong!"

"I shouldn't have taken money from Mr. Phoebe and secretly worked for Mr. Torres..."

"And I shouldn't have taken money from Mr. Foster, done bad things, and then blamed Mr. Foster..."

Lucy's words made Adeline step back a few paces, almost losing her balance.

Fortunately, Jasper quickly supported her.

Adeline, trembling all over, looked at the servant she once trusted the most.

"You..."

"You take care of my mother every day. You should know how much she suffers as a vegetative patient!"

"Yet you applied this ointment to her, wanting her to die from a full-body infection."

"Lucy, your problem isn't about whose money you took or who you worked for."

"You lack the most basic human compassion!"

Lucy, the servant, knelt on the ground, crying miserably.

Oliver frowned and glanced indifferently at David in the distance.

"You're the leader of the biggest gang in Oceancrest City now. If one of your subordinates did this, how would you handle it?"

David smiled faintly.

"I'd take his life."

"But..."

David looked down at the kneeling Lucy. "Such a young girl, it would be a waste to kill her."

"How about this?"

He glanced at his subordinates.

David checked the time. "From the time Mrs. Phoebe applied the ointment to when it was discovered, it's been about twelve hours."

"Apply the remaining ointment we found on her."

"Then keep her under watch. Let her rot for twelve hours before letting her go."

Finally, David raised an eyebrow at Oliver.

"How does that sound?"

Oliver smirked. "Thanks for your help."

"No, please!"

Hearing David and Oliver's conversation, Lucy trembled on the ground.

She quickly crawled to Adeline's feet, grabbing her pant leg.

"Ms. Wilson, Ms. Wilson!"

"Please save me, save me!"

Lucy's voice changed from crying.

"I don't want to rot like that!"

She had seen Zara's back clearly!

She was not even thirty yet; she didn't want to end up like that!

Adeline kicked her away, looking down at Lucy's face.

"You could do this to my mother, why can't we do this to you?"

Without experiencing that pain, she would never understand what she did wrong!

Seeing that even Adeline wouldn't protect her, the light in Lucy's eyes turned to complete despair.

At this moment, David's men came over and grabbed her from both sides.

Lucy knew very well that David's men were all ruthless!

If they took her away, she would rot for twelve hours, as David said, with no chance of escape!

Thinking of this, she took a deep breath and used her last bit of strength to break free from the two men holding her, rushing to Adeline.

She knelt down, grabbing Adeline's leg.

"Ms. Wilson!"

"Spare me, spare me!"

"I'll tell you a secret, a huge secret!"

Lucy was so nervous that foam started forming at the corners of her mouth.

"Your child with Jasper isn't dead!"

One sentence made the entire courtyard fall silent.

Adeline, who was about to pull her hand away, froze.

The air seemed to stand still.

She felt like she couldn't breathe, her chest tightening.

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

Wasn't that child buried under the cherry blossom tree by her and Jasper?

How could he not be dead?

That body wasn't fake.

Lucy bit her lip.

She could clearly feel the cold, hateful gazes from Brandon and Daisy's direction.

But she couldn't care about that anymore.

She was still young; she didn't want to die!

No amount of money from Brandon was worth more than her life!

Taking a deep breath, Lucy looked up at Adeline's face, speaking slowly and clearly.

"That dead baby wasn't your and Mr. Foster's child."

"That child was switched. Your real child was actually..."

With a gunshot, Lucy's words were cut off.

A sniper bullet pierced through one side of her temple and out the other.

Lucy stared wide-eyed, blood spilling from her mouth, and collapsed to the ground.

Adeline, shocked, quickly knelt down, grabbing Lucy's hand.

"What did you just say?"

"Speak clearly, my child, she..."

Lucy opened her mouth.

Blood gushed from her mouth, and she couldn't say another word.

Lucy could only weakly point in Brandon's direction before her head slumped, and she died.

Adeline held Lucy, her heart aching as if it were being squeezed.

She screamed hysterically.

"Who fired the shot?!"

She was so close to saying it, so close!

Even if Adeline didn't know if what she said was true, she wanted to hear her out!

What if?

What if, as she said, her child wasn't dead, just switched?

What if her child were still alive?

Tears silently fell as Adeline bit her lip.

"Who fired the shot!"
