Chapter 339 Pregnant, Right?
"We're heading to the hospital," Linda said, looking at Adeline. "Adeline's taking me back to the hospital."
Jasper nodded and moved Linda's wheelchair towards the elevator. Once inside, he handed Adeline some documents. "These are from the new vendors in Neon City. There's a discrepancy. Check it out."
Adeline skimmed the files, frowning. Something was off with the gemstone content.
"This is bad," she muttered, pulling out her phone to calculate losses. "Is this the only order with issues?"
"Ryan's checking the others now."
"We need to cancel our contract with this supplier and take legal action," Adeline said firmly.
"Agreed."
The elevator stopped, and the doors opened to the busy lobby. Lost in their conversation, they didn't notice the change in motion. As Adeline stepped out, a wave of nausea hit her. She grabbed Jasper's arm to steady herself.
"Are you okay?" he asked, concerned. This was the second time today he'd seen her like this.
"We're going to the hospital anyway. Let's get you checked out too."
Adeline froze, panic rising. She forced a shaky smile. "I'm fine, just a bit queasy."
But another wave of nausea hit, stronger this time. Her vision blurred, and her legs wobbled.
Jasper caught her before she fell. "This doesn't look 'fine' to me."
Without another word, he scooped her up and carried her out of the elevator, leaving Linda speechless.
Linda sighed, wheeling herself towards the entrance. The short distance felt like a marathon.
"I told you to bring more help, but you never listen," a familiar voice said behind her. Strong hands gripped her wheelchair, pushing her forward.
David walked beside her. "Take my advice sometimes, ok?"
Linda bit back a retort, fiddling with her shawl. "I was wrong, alright?" she admitted, a hint of a smile on her lips.
Adeline barely had time to react. One minute she was in the elevator, the next she was in Jasper's car.
"Ryan, drive."
The engine roared to life, and they sped off before Adeline could protest.
"What about Linda?" she asked, panicked.
Jasper's phone pinged. He glanced at it, relaxing slightly.
"She's with David," he said, reading the message.
Adeline looked out the rear window and saw David pushing Linda's wheelchair out of the hotel, his hand on her shoulder.
Relief washed over her, followed by more anxiety.
"I told you, I'm fine," she insisted, glaring at Jasper.
"Whether you're 'fine' or not is for a doctor to decide," he replied.
"Ryan, step on it."
Adeline clutched her skirt, heart racing. Could she be pregnant? And what if Jasper found out it was his child?
Jasper loved kids. He hadn't really loved Stella, but when he thought she gave birth to his two kids, he softened and showered her with affection. He doted on Stella in a way Adeline had only dreamed of.
The scenery outside blurred. Her stomach churned, and not just from nausea. She couldn't let Jasper find out yet. He'd try to control everything, including her.
Arguing with him was pointless. Denying her symptoms would only make him more suspicious. She couldn't jump out of a moving car, not with this precious life inside her.
Taking a deep breath, Adeline closed her eyes, trying to calm down.
The car screeched to a halt outside the hospital. Jasper was out in a flash, opening her door and scooping her up before she could unbuckle.
"Jasper, put me down! I can walk!" she protested, embarrassed and annoyed.
"You could barely walk in the elevator," he said, concerned. "I'm not risking your safety, or the baby's."
His words hung in the air. Had he figured it out?
Sensing her panic, Jasper's expression turned neutral. "You're important to the company. Your well-being is a priority."
He gently placed her on the examination table, his hand lingering on her arm.
"She's been nauseous and vomiting all day," he told the doctor, a young woman with sharp eyes named Chloe Olson.
"Anything else?" Chloe asked, taking notes. She looked at Adeline. "Tell me everything."
Adeline glanced nervously at Jasper. "Could you give us a moment alone?" she whispered. "I need to speak with Dr. Olson privately."
Jasper frowned. "I brought you here. I deserve to know what's going on."
"It's her privacy," Chloe said firmly, placing a hand on Jasper's arm. "Your employee is in good hands. Please wait outside. I'll get you when we're done."
Before Jasper could argue, Chloe ushered him out and closed the door.
Adeline sagged in relief.
Chloe leaned against the door, her expression softening. "You're pregnant, aren't you?" she asked quietly.
Adeline's breath caught. "How did you...?"
Chloe smirked. "You're showing all the signs. Plus, I'm a good doctor." Her face turned serious. "Is it his?" She nodded towards the door.
