Chapter 701 Ms. Phoebe Unclear

After that phone call, Adeline never reached out to Jasper again.

Even though Brandon tried to convince her multiple times, she refused to call Jasper.

Every day, she sat listlessly on the couch in the the Torres Mansion's annex, watching the news.

Jasper had once again pushed the Phoebe family to the brink by cutting off several of their production lines.

The Phoebe family had started reaching out to Jasper, trying to make peace.

Seeing her in such a state, Brandon sighed softly and placed a glass of water in front of Adeline.

"There's only half a day left of the seven days Grandma gave you. Are you really not going to try contacting Jasper again, to ask him to take you away?"

He lowered his eyes as he spoke, "If he doesn't come to get you, you'll really be forced to marry me, a cripple."

Adeline took the glass from him, her lips pressed together. "He said he needed to deal with the Phoebe family first and told me to wait."

"But..." Brandon sighed, wheeling himself closer to her, his gaze deep and serious.

"Adeline, I know you don't like me, and I know I'm not worthy of you. You can't keep..."

Adeline interrupted and looked up at him. "Brandon, don't say anymore. There's still half a day left, right? Whatever happens, it's up to Jasper. It's not up to me."

If he couldn't come for her before the Torres family forced her to marry Brandon, then it meant they weren't meant to be.

She was willing to wait until the last moment.

Seeing her so down, Brandon sighed and suggested they go out for a walk and find a restaurant to eat at.

Adeline glanced at him. "Will Grandma and Randy agree?"

Brandon nodded. "But..."

He coughed lightly. "Randy might follow us from a distance."

The thought of being followed made Adeline lose interest.

But Brandon seemed excited, probably because he had been cooped up for too long.

After a moment of hesitation, Adeline agreed.

She had been living in a daze for too long and needed to get out and clear her mind.

Brandon took her to a place they used to frequent, called Lucky Restaurant.

The first time Adeline saw "Lucky Restaurant," she thought it looked cheerful and dragged Brandon inside to dine.

Since then, Lucky Restaurant had become their go-to place whenever they met.

But now, returning to Lucky Restaurant, Adeline felt no excitement at all.

The news on the streets was all about Jasper.

Jasper had come to Oceancrest City with a huge amount of capital, attacking the Phoebe family.

In just a week, he had brought the Phoebe family to its knees.

It was said that the Phoebe family was now doing everything they could to negotiate with him, hoping he would spare them.

Sitting in a corner on the second floor of Lucky Restaurant, Adeline listened to the chatter about Jasper and felt a surge of irritation.

They weren't wrong.

Jasper was a capable, shrewd, and determined man.

But when it came to relationships, he was a complete jerk.

Even if she was his true love, she would always come after his vendetta.

Brandon ordered a few of Adeline's favorite dishes, trying to cheer her up.

Adeline was absentmindedly eating when she heard the people around her talking.

"Isn't that Daisy Phoebe?"

"It really is her!"

"I heard that the Phoebe family's affairs were managed by Oliver, but he stepped down recently and took his son on a trip. Now that the Phoebe family is in trouble, Daisy has to step up."

"Yeah, I heard she managed to contact Jasper a few days ago, and he spared two of their production lines. Daisy must be here to see Jasper today, right?"

"Of course. Didn't you see the news? The Phoebe family is on the verge of collapse. Jasper is using every trick in the book to bankrupt them."

"Do you think Daisy can negotiate with Jasper?"

"Maybe. She's beautiful, after all. She might use her charm..."

Adeline followed their gazes and saw a woman in a simple blue dress, surrounded by several tall bodyguards, walking towards a table not far from her.

Daisy was tall and elegant, clearly nurtured by wealth and privilege.

She walked past Adeline and Brandon's table without a glance and sat in the booth right behind Adeline.

Daisy's seat was back-to-back with Adeline's.

From this close, Adeline could smell the faint floral scent on Daisy.

"Mr. Foster, I'm here. When will you arrive?"

Suddenly, Daisy's soft voice came from behind.

Adeline froze.

The onlookers were right. Daisy was here to see Jasper.

"You're here already? I'm at the third table on the left side of the second floor. You can come up the left staircase."

As Daisy finished speaking, a steady rhythm of footsteps came from the stairs.

Adeline and Brandon exchanged a glance, and Adeline quickly picked up the menu to hide her face.

Through the gap in the menu, she saw Jasper walking towards her with his usual elegance and indifference.

He looked much thinner and so haggard that it made her heart ache.

If it were before, she might have wanted to cook him a nice meal out of concern.

But now...

Jasper walked past her and Brandon without a glance and sat down in front of Daisy.

"Ms. Phoebe."

Jasper's voice was cold and devoid of warmth.

"Your meeting me today is unnecessary. I've already told you my terms, or the Phoebe family goes bankrupt. It's that simple."

Daisy smiled faintly. "Mr. Foster, there's no need to be so absolute. The Phoebe family and the Foster family are indeed old enemies. The Phoebe family did wrong the Foster family in the past, but Molly's attack on your grandmother wasn't sanctioned by the Phoebe family. Molly has already paid with her life. I thought you wouldn't hold a grudge."

Jasper sneered at Daisy. "Do you really not know why I'm targeting the Phoebe family now, Ms. Phoebe?"

"Of course." Daisy smiled. "But Mr. Foster, I'm curious. Besides dealing with the Phoebe family, have you considered going after the Torres family?"

Hearing that, Adeline clenched her hands together.

She held her breath, straining to hear Jasper's response.

Jasper chuckled lightly. "I'm here in Oceancrest City solely to deal with the Phoebe family. The Torres family is irrelevant to me. Maybe after I'm done with the Phoebe family, I'll visit the Torres Mansion. But right now, the Phoebe family is my priority."

Sitting just a foot away from Jasper, Adeline felt as if her heart had been pushed into an abyss by his words.
