Chapter 228 I Don't Remember
Adeline and Stella both looked up.
The one holding Stella's wrist was none other than Jasper, who had left not long ago.
Seeing him, Stella quickly withdrew her hand and threw herself into his arms, crying, "Jasper, I know Adeline is not in a good mood, so I comforted her a few words.
"I didn't expect her to slap me directly!"
As she spoke, she pointed to her own swollen face. "Look!
"I was angry, so I slapped her, but she still wanted to hit me, so I..."
Jasper gently hugged her, glanced lightly at the slap mark on Adeline's face. "I know you're not in a good mood, but don't hurt people indiscriminately."
Adeline raised her head, looking at him coldly, without saying a word.
Jasper took a deep breath and said lightly, "I just went to the police station, and everything has been taken care of.
"The one who kidnapped and abused Linda is one of Gabriel's confidants.
"The one behind it is Morris, and the police have already summoned him."
The man's words made Stella, who was in his arms, stiffen suddenly.
She released herself from Jasper's embrace. "Morris was caught by the police?"
Jasper nodded. "When I left, he was making a statement at the police station.
"He confessed to plotting against Linda."
Looking in the direction of Linda's ward, the man continued, "Although what he did last night, letting Gabriel kidnap Adeline, was despicable, it didn't cause any substantial harm to Adeline, so I chose not to press charges.
"First, Morris and my father have been friends for many years.
"Second, with Gabriel gone, the Evelyn's family will gradually decline, which is already a punishment for him."
After finishing speaking, Jasper couldn't help but sigh, "But now, what Morris did is indeed a bit too much.
"Linda is Lyndon's only daughter. For so many years, Lyndon has been
working for the Evelyn's family.
"Just because Linda defended Adeline before, Morris can disregard Lyndon's loyalty and treat Linda like this..."
He shook his head. "Perhaps Luna's death has hit him too hard?
"His current state of mind may lead him to confess and be protected.
"Otherwise, who can guarantee that he won't do even more shocking things in the future?"
Stella clenched her teeth tightly. After Morris failed to deal with Adeline last night, Stella secretly called Morris, asking him not to act rashly. Even if the Evelyn's family collapsed, she was still there for the Evelyn's family.
In the future, when she and Jasper were in love, they would always find a way to help the Evelyn's family make a comeback. She still remembered Morris promising to behave.
How could Morris turn against Linda now?
Anyone with a brain would know that he had just been caught red-handed last night, so it wasn't wise to attract attention at this time.
Why would Morris still act like this at such a critical moment?
Adeline lowered her head. "I still don't understand...
"Why did Morris..."
"Because he wants to silence someone."
Before Adeline could finish her sentence, she was coldly interrupted.
Standing at the door of Linda's ward was David.
The man glanced indifferently at Adeline. "I know Gabriel and his group too well.
"If their goal was just revenge or destroying someone, they would use more vicious methods to make people beg for mercy.
"But these people went after Linda with deadly intent.
"If my people hadn't arrived in time, by the time the remaining few finished their business, she would have lost her life."
After speaking, the man shrugged and walked over. "So, does Linda know any secrets of the Evelyn's family?"
Adeline and Stella's faces turned pale at Sebastian's question.
Stella probably had an idea, but wasn't entirely sure. Adeline, on the other hand, remembered the love letter Linda gave her last night.
She vaguely remembered that last night, Gabriel got hold of her letter, took a photo, and then burned it.
She didn't know the contents of the letter.
However, her intuition told her if the Evelyn's family wanted to silence Linda, it must be related to that letter.
With this in mind, she stood up as if mad, pushed open the door of Linda's ward, and grabbed Linda's hand. "Do you remember? Yesterday, you gave me a letter. In that letter, what did you write?"
Linda looked at her blankly. "What letter?"
Adeline's body stiffened suddenly.
She bit her lip. "Just last night, we went out for drinks, you got drunk, I took you home, and you gave me a letter, telling me to open it back in Dawn Vale...
"What did you write in the letter?"
If the Evelyn's family was treating Linda this way to silence her, then the way to keep Linda from being silenced again was to reveal this secret to everyone.
So, Adeline deliberately left the door of the ward open and asked this question in front of Jasper, Stella, and David.
However, to her surprise, Linda didn't remember anything.
She still looked at Adeline blankly. "Did I drink with you yesterday?"
Adeline bit her lip, still stubbornly trying to remind her. "Do you have any secrets to tell me?
"About the Evelyn's family?"
Linda smiled. "The Evelyn's family is the first family, the richest.
"How could I possibly know their secrets?"
After saying that, she looked at Adeline as if she were looking at a monster. "Are you sick? What nonsense are you talking about?"
Adeline furrowed her brows, wanting to continue asking, but Lyndon sighed beside her, "Ms. Wilson, have you forgotten?"
"The doctor just said that Linda's brain suffered a heavy blow, causing a concussion and some short-term memory loss."
After speaking, the old man sighed, "She doesn't remember what you're talking about, so please stop asking."
The light in Adeline's eyes gradually dimmed.
She looked at Linda again, holding back many emotions and words, but couldn't say a word.
"Adeline, you go.
"I want to be alone for a while."
Linda glanced at her. "You shouldn't sit in the corridor either. I heard everything you said in the corridor just now.
"It's too noisy."
Adeline's face turned pale.
The room fell into silence.
After a while, Adeline took a deep breath, turned and walked out of the ward.
In the corridor, Jasper and Stella were still standing there.
Adeline walked over, respectfully saluted Jasper. "Jasper, can I take a few more days off here, please?"
Jasper's gaze was light. "What if I don't allow it?"
