Chapter 602 Blake, don't talk nonsense
Adeline's hand hesitated just as she was about to grab the back of Jasper's wheelchair.
A second later, she rushed to catch up, grabbed the wheelchair, and pushed him forward. "Jasper, I know you're mad because I changed the plan last minute and announced my engagement to Rex."
She sniffled quietly and bit her lip. "I didn't have a choice. The box Molly gave me...."
Jasper stared straight ahead and cut her off with a cold voice, "In that box, there were things about Sebastian and Bennett. The letter inside had Molly's threats, saying if you didn't do what she wanted, she'd hurt Sebastian and Bennett."
Jasper smirked, his deep voice laced with a hint of self-mockery, "Am I right?"
Adeline was stunned.
After a moment, she bit her lip, "How did you know?"
"I guessed it." Jasper replied.
"Then since you knew, why did you..."
"Adeline." Jasper took a deep breath, stopped the wheelchair, and turned it around smoothly.
He looked directly at Adeline, his lips curling with a hint of coldness. "Do you really think that by doing what Molly wants, she wouldn't hurt Sebastian or Bennett? Or if you had talked to me, I wouldn't be able to protect them?"
Jasper's words made Adeline press her lips together tightly. She looked at him, her mind momentarily blank.
After a while, she finally got it.
He was upset she didn't talk to him when Molly threatened her.
Adeline was quiet for a moment before lowering her head slowly, "Jasper."
"You'd rather trust a liar like Molly to keep her word than believe I could help you find a way." Jasper looked at Adeline, his deep eyes filled with self-mockery and indifference. "From start to finish, you never talked to me about it. You thought doing what Molly wanted would be enough, so you never considered me."
He closed his eyes, hiding the disappointment and sadness. "To you, I'm just someone you can toss aside whenever."
He was the richest and most respected man in Radiance Springs. But tonight, at the grand engagement party he had planned for Adeline, he became the joke of the town.
Even though Ryan had asked the guests not to spread what happened, he couldn't help but be angry.
Adeline bit her lip hard. She understood his anger. At that time, she really felt she had no choice.
She sniffed, turned her face away, not daring to look at him again, "I'm sorry. At that moment, I felt trapped. My anxiety was overwhelming, and I feared she might actually hurt Sebastian and Bennett."
Jasper opened his eyes, his lips carrying a trace of coldness. "In the end, you still don't trust me, no matter how good I am to you."
Adeline bit her lip hard. She turned to meet his cold eyes, mustering the courage to interrupt him. "Jasper, it's not that I doubt you.
"How much did I trust you before? As long as you said it, I believed it.
"You said you were busy with work, but I saw you socializing with others, with a woman hanging on your shoulder.
"But I still believed you, I could pretend not to see.
"But why don't I trust you anymore?"
She looked him in the eyes and said slowly, "It's because you used up all my trust.
"About what happened six years ago, I still don't know if you and Molly were in on it together, or if it was just one of you.
"I appreciate how good you are to me and the kids now.
"But that doesn't erase the hurt you caused me.
"Don't blame me for not trusting you.
"Since that car accident six years ago, I've only trusted myself."
After saying this, Adeline took a deep breath and turned to leave.
In the spacious and cold engagement party venue, Jasper sat in his wheelchair, quietly watching Adeline's retreating figure, his eyes gradually turning cold.
Blue Bay.
"Liam, this is your bed!"
Back home from the venue, Lauren pulled Bennett's hand into the children's room.
The room had three small beds.
The bunk beds belonged to Blake and Bennett, and the pink bed with a small canopy in the distance was Lauren's.
She held Bennett's hand and pointed to the top bunk, "Do you want to sleep here? Since Blake isn't well and can't sleep on the top bunk, you'll have to make do!"
Bennett frowned at the bunk bed, his face expressionless. "Okay."
"As long as you're willing!" Lauren cheerfully took out Bennett's pajamas from the closet and handed them to him, "Go take a shower and change into these! I've already asked Alice to buy your personal items. We need to get along well from now on!"
Her enthusiasm made Bennett a bit uncomfortable. He was silent for a moment, then coldly took the pajamas and went to the bathroom.
Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom.
Blake pushed the door open, glanced at the bathroom, then looked at Lauren, his eyes indifferent. "Why are you being so nice to him?"
Lauren pouted, "He's not an outsider."
Even if he had lost his memory and didn't remember them, he was still Bennett!
Blake gave her a deep look, then turned and sat on his small bed, "In my opinion, he should stay in the guest room. You sleep like a log every night. What if he kills you in your sleep?"
Lauren glared at him, "Blake, don't say such things!"
She glanced at the bathroom to make sure Bennett hadn't heard their conversation, then lowered her voice. "Even if Bennett has lost his memory, he wouldn't do such a thing."
Blake pouted, "What wouldn't he do?"
He had hurt Jasper with a knife on the beach and teamed up with Molly to trouble Jasper and Mom at the engagement party.
Lauren looked at him, about to say something, but Bennett had already finished his shower and came out in his pajamas.
Their conversation abruptly ended.
After coming out, Bennett said nothing, quietly climbed into bed, and went to sleep.
Blake and Lauren exchanged a glance and began their own bedtime routines.
Soon, the lights in the children's room went out.
Probably because she was too tired today, Lauren fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed.
An hour later.
Bennett sat up from the top bunk, and quietly climbed down. He took a shiny knife from his backpack and slowly lifted Lauren's canopy.
