Chapter 621 Who Said I Was Dead?
Adeline's entrance left Nathan and Rex totally floored!
Rex shot a desperate look at Nathan, silently begging for backup.
Nathan squinted, then grinned, "Adeline, what's with the attitude? I'm doing this for Jasper's sake. Jasper would want the best for the Foster Group. You gotta understand that the Foster Group is huge. If we don't get a new president in an hour, things could go south real quick! I had Rex take over everything from Jasper to keep the Foster Group steady and honor Jasper's wishes."
He gave Adeline a pained look. "Even though you're engaged to Rex, you're still an outsider to our family and don't get how we roll in the Foster household."
He added, "When you marry Rex, he will teach you how to juggle personal feelings with the company's needs."
As Nathan finished, the crowd started buzzing. Most folks were praising Nathan for his foresight.
Hearing the supportive chatter, Nathan smirked and gave Adeline a smug smile. The challenge in that smile was crystal clear to Adeline. He had really hammered home the "outsider" bit.
Adeline clenched her teeth so hard they might crack. She could see it coming. If she kept pushing back, Nathan would use her outsider status against her. But she didn't care anymore!
Adeline gripped the marriage certificate in her pocket and slowly made her way to the stage. "Are you saying the Foster Group will fall apart without a president for just an hour? Is it that I don't get the Foster Group, or does Nathan not get it?"
She walked onto the stage with grace, her voice icy and firm. "The Foster Group, such a well-oiled machine, can run just fine without a president. Nathan, do you think Jasper hired all those high-priced execs for nothing? Or do you think every little thing needs the president's personal touch? Do you even know how big the Foster Group is?"
She went on, "If such a massive company needed Jasper to micromanage everything and would crumble without him for an hour, it wouldn't be the international powerhouse it is, nor the richest in Radiance Springs!"
Adeline's words cut deep and echoed through the room. The place went dead silent.
A moment later, the reporters couldn't help but murmur.
"Yeah, how could a company like the Foster Group not function without a president?"
"Those branch execs aren't useless. If the company can't run without a president, that's just sad."
"Even our small entertainment company can run without the boss!"
"If they're not worried about not having a president, then what's Nathan's deal?"
"Don't you get it? They're using Jasper's death to grab the Foster Group. It's such a classic move!"
"Oh my god, I can't believe people like this exist and stuff like this actually happens."
The chatter below grew louder, and Nathan and Rex stood on the stage, looking pretty grim.
After a bit, Rex clenched his jaw and turned to Adeline. "Adeline, what are you doing? I know we've had our issues, but we're engaged. Why come here just to stir up trouble? Sure, the Foster Group can run without a president, but..."
Rex paused, squinting at her. "The company can keep going, but those who've always had their eyes on it and our competitors will definitely pounce during this chaotic time. The sooner I take over, the sooner I can get up to speed. When word gets out and they come for us, we'll be ready. Why can't you see we're trying to protect the company?"
Rex's words made the reporters below suddenly get it. So, Rex and Nathan had this all planned out!
One reporter sighed, "From that angle, Adeline's view does seem a bit naive."
Nathan's eyes lit up, and he jumped on the reporter's comment. "Actually, it's normal for Adeline to only see the surface. She came here to cause trouble because of a spat with Rex. Everyone knows they're engaged, and it's normal for couples to fight. I didn't expect her to be so thoughtless, dragging their personal issues here!"
Nathan then shot Adeline a cold glare, "Get down now! You're making a fool of yourself!"
Adeline squinted, bit her lip hard, and walked up to Nathan, grabbing the microphone. "I didn't argue with Rex, and I'm not short-sighted. I came here for one reason."
She took a deep breath and looked at the reporters below, "I'm here to stop Nathan and Rex from taking Jasper's assets."
The whole place erupted. Was Adeline nuts? Wasn't it good for her fiancé Rex to inherit Jasper's assets? Why would she want to stop it? Just because of a fight with Rex?
Nathan squinted tightly, "What right do you have to stop it? Adeline, do I need to remind you? You're just Rex's fiancée. You're not even part of the Foster family; you're an outsider! And if you claim to be an employee of the Foster Group, that's even more laughable! You're just a jewelry designer, what right do you have?"
Adeline took a deep breath, gripping the microphone tightly, "My identity is not just a jewelry designer."
She reached into her pocket, holding the marriage certificate, and exhaled deeply, "Actually, my true identity is..."
"Her true identity is my client." Suddenly, a cold male voice echoed from the entrance of the venue.
That voice!
Adeline's eyes widened instantly, looking towards the entrance. She saw Jasper, dressed in a dark blue suit, slowly walking towards the stage.
"Adeline was entrusted by me to come to the press conference and tell everyone that I'm not dead."
After saying this, he glanced at Nathan and Rex on the stage. "My dear father, who told you that I was dead?"
