Chapter 132 Let Mommy Out First
The police had taken away Adeline.
Lauren, furious, struggled in Jasper's grasp. "Let me go, I want Mommy!"
"Lauren, your mommy is right here."
The woman who had been sitting on the sofa walked over with a smile, gently grasping Lauren's flailing hands. "She is a fake; I'm the real one."
"That's not true!" Lauren shook off her hand furiously, glaring at her. "You are not my mommy! My mommy doesn't look like you!"
"Lauren, your mommy looks just like this."
The little girl continued to resist, much to Jasper's annoyance.
He set her down and turned to Alice, who stood at a distance. "Lauren's upset; take her upstairs."
After that, he glanced at Bennett, who was standing nearby. "You go, too. I need to talk to your mother."
Bennett gave Jasper a cold look and then glanced at the woman claiming to be their mom.
"Phooey!"
He spat vehemently, grabbing Lauren's hand. "Let's get out of here!"
"They still don't want to acknowledge me."
The woman began to cry again, her voice frail.
"It's okay. Take it slow."
Jasper tenderly took her hand and sat down with her on the couch.
"Adeline, tell me what you've been through these years, okay?"
His large hand was warm, his gaze profound.
The woman pursed her lips. "Stop calling me Adeline; I haven't gone by that name in ages. My name is now Stella. You should call me Stella from now on."
Jasper furrowed his brow.
"I know it might be tough for you to switch immediately."
Sniffling, Stella said, "But Jasper, you saw her—the one who just claimed to be Adeline. She never used to be Adeline. After she took my child, she changed her name to Adeline.
"With evil intent, she adopted my name for herself, all to confuse everyone into thinking she was the real Adeline! Since she stole my name, I don't want it anymore. From now on, I'm Stella."
Witnessing the redness in her eyes and the tears on her face, Jasper felt a pang of heartache.
He grasped her hand. "Alright, Stella, it is then."
After all, a name was just a label.
If she was indeed Adeline, he supported her decision to change her name.
"Thank you for understanding," she said.
Stella wiped away her tears and leaned into Jasper's embrace with a pathetic look. "Jasper, I missed you so much."
Hearing her words, Jasper felt as if his heart was struck with a heavy blow.
He hugged her tightly. "Don't worry, I won't let you leave me again."
...
Adeline was taken to the police station, where, after a thorough interrogation, she found herself locked up in a cell.
Coincidentally, she was put in the same cell as Molly.
"Well, well, Miss Wilson, what landed you in jail?" taunted Molly, dressed in the prison uniform, sitting on her bunk with a cheerful smile. "You were acting all high and mighty this morning, and now you're in here this afternoon."
Adeline knitted her eyebrows, grabbed her bedding, and returned to her bunk without a word.
Molly's laugh grew more arrogant.
"Doesn't feel good to be charged with kidnapping, does it?"
Adeline frowned again and turned around coldly, "You knew?"
"Of course, I knew."
Molly yawned. "After all, Stella happens to be my sister, Adeline."
Adeline paused.
"So her name is Stella."
But something needed to be added up.
She was sure she didn't have a twin sister.
So why did this woman, known as Stella, have a face identical to her past self?
"She's called Stella, but she's also Adeline," Molly quipped with a sly tone.
Molly shifted to a more comfortable position on her bed and mused, "Miss Wilson, which one of us do you think will make it out of here first?"
Adeline glanced at her, then turned to lie back down on her bed, not really in the mood to engage.
She needed to focus and straighten out her thoughts.
Who exactly was this woman named Stella?
...
Inside the children's room on the second floor of Blue Bay
Lauren was face down on her pillow, having cried for quite some time.
Alice, feeling somewhat helpless, patted her back while trying to offer some consolation. "Miss Lauren, please stop crying..."
She added gently, “Crying won't fix anything.”
Her words only made Lauren weep harder.
"Blake, what's your take on this?" Bennett asked, calmly seated at the distant desk, video-calling Blake on his computer. "This woman claims to know a lot about our family.
"But her knowledge isn't as thorough as she believes. She keeps saying that it was a mom who took her twins, yet she doesn't know we're triplets."
On the other side, Blake was propped against his headboard, fingers deftly moving across the keyboard.
He had three computer screens in front of him.
One displayed the video call with Bennett.
Another streamed live feeds from the surveillance cameras at Blue Bay and the prison.
And on the third, Stella's profile popped up.
"She came prepared."
Blake frowned intensely at Stella's information, "Every detail is meticulously crafted. She supposedly left Denver due to an injury and then went abroad for treatment.
"This profile shows signs of careful fabrication, but the faker clearly didn't know that mom had already given birth."
Finally, the young one concluded, "Stella is just someone scheming to usurp our mother's identity.
"Perhaps she once thought mom was dead, so she only falsified her background.
"As for the details about the kids and pregnancy, someone must have filled her in after she arrived in Denver, or else she would have featured that in her fabricated documents."
Bennett nodded in agreement.
"We should have considered this possibility earlier."
"Even though Jasper is a scoundrel, he's always managed to maintain the image of a man fiercely loyal to Mom in the public eye. If I were a woman, I too would want to impersonate the one he held dearest to win his affection."
Blake sighed, "You're so young, and you're already deciphering the hearts of jealous women?"
Bennett grinned, "Spare me the teasing."
"Right now, the priority is to get Mom out of prison."
"Mmm."
Blake nodded, "The revolving door of prison is unpredictable; we can't let Mom languish in there too long."
"It'd be terrible if someone cornered Mom and forced her to confess to a kidnapping she didn't commit!"
"What can we do now, though?"
At the mention of the situation, Bennett's spirits sank. "Right now, Jasper's head over heels for that wicked woman. He takes her word as gospel."
While the two brothers were all worried, Lauren sniffled and climbed out of bed.
The little girl wiped away her tears. "I have a way to get Mom out."
