Chapter 212 Can I Eat by Myself?

Adeline once again flipped through the news.
The more she read, the more suffocated she felt.
In the news, not only Linda's name was mentioned, but also the audio recorded by Linda.
Trembling, she opened the audio. In an instant, Linda's calm voice without any emotion echoed in the room, "Yes, I leaked all of this, and I am willing to take legal responsibility for the photos I leaked.
"About the improper relationship between Adeline and Jasper... I will explain everything clearly at tomorrow's press conference. Tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock, in the small auditorium near Silverlake Heights High School, I will hold a small press conference.
"At that time, all friends who are concerned about the events related to Adeline interfering in Jasper and Stella's marriage are welcome to come and I will answer your questions one by one."
The audio ended here.
Adeline took a sharp breath as she tightly held the phone in her hand.
Just yesterday, Linda had finally recognized her, realizing she was the Adeline from their past.
But why...
Furthermore, when Linda mentioned the small auditorium near Silverlake Heights High School, memories flooded back. It was the very school they had both attended.
That small auditorium held a special significance for them—it was once their favorite spot. They had celebrated their coming-of-age ceremonies there, marking important milestones in their lives.
After the ceremonies, they went their separate ways to different college campuses, gradually losing touch over time.
It could be said that the small auditorium served as the final intersection of Linda and Adeline's paths.
Now, Linda was going to hold a press conference in that small auditorium, accusing her of being a third party in Jasper and Stella's marriage...
Adeline closed her eyes, her heart almost breaking.
Unfortunately, at this moment, a man's voice with a cold smile sounded in her ear, "Didn't you say that you, Linda, and Zavier became friends because of Sebastian?"
Jasper shifted to a more comfortable position, holding his phone with one hand, browsing the news on his phone indifferently. "Is this what you call a friend?"
Adeline bit her lip tightly, abstaining from speaking, devoid of both mood and energy. Mentally exhausted and truly hungry, she shifted her position, weakly leaning on the sofa and curling up in a helpless gesture.
Jasper furrowed his brows, looking at the woman in front of him.
Sunlight streamed through the curtains behind her, casting a bright beam of light on her side, yet she seemed to be shrouded in shadow.
Her body was thin, her face haggard, with a fresh wound on her lip from being bitten, bright yet sorrowful.
She looked like an injured kitten, curled up there, silent.
The man gazed at her, his eyes gradually deepening. In fact, he found it strange too. Just over an hour ago, Linda had hurriedly taken Zavier to the hospital.
How could she shift her attention so quickly from Zavier to Adeline within an hour?
Moreover, when he brought people to Linda's house earlier, Linda adamantly stood at the door, with a hint of timidity in her eyes, but firmly told him that Adeline was not at her house.
If it weren't for the gang members later injuring Zavier, she would have kept insisting that Adeline wasn't there.
This situation was more like the reaction after Adeline and Linda became friends, as Adeline had just mentioned.
But... How could a person change so quickly in such a short time?
There was a long silence between the two, and finally, the door was knocked open.
Outside the door, Ryan carried two lunches and cautiously walked in. Sensing that the atmosphere in the room was not right, Ryan didn't even say a word, he just placed the meals on the coffee table and quickly left.
The door was closed again.
Adeline's gaze drifted up to the spread of food on the table, a tempting array of her favorites laid out before her.
Despite not feeling much of an appetite at the moment, hunger gnawed at her insides relentlessly. The emotional turmoil she was experiencing couldn't quell the physical need for sustenance.
With a deep breath, she rose from the sofa, made her way to the coffee table, and methodically began to unpack the food, item by item.
As the aroma of the dishes enveloped her, awakening the voracity in her stomach, Adeline surrendered to her cravings. Without hesitation, she grasped the utensils and dove into the meal with gusto.
It wasn't until she had devoured half a bowl of rice that the pangs of hunger finally began to subside.
At the same time, she remembered that there was a man sitting next to her who hadn't eaten. She pursed her lips and subconsciously turned her head.
Jasper was elegantly leaning on the sofa, one hand hanging by his side, the other resting on the sofa, his gaze indifferent as he looked at her.
Seeing her look at him, the man faintly smiled and said, "You go ahead and eat."
Adeline's mind was momentarily blank. She glanced at him and furrowed her brows. "Didn't you say you hadn't eaten this morning either? Aren't you hungry?"
"Of course, I am hungry." The man looked at her with a look that seemed to say she was acting dumb, then glanced at his injured right arm. "Do you think I can eat by myself?"
Adeline paused, her thoughts interrupted by the realization of his injury. With such a large and deep scar on his arm, he indeed couldn't eat like she could.
"Should I let Ryan come in..." she innocently asked.
"No need," Jasper replied, glancing at her once more, a slight smile playing on his lips. "You fed me quite well yesterday at noon, didn't you?"
Adeline paused, her cheeks inexplicably flushing. She bit her lip and swiftly lowered her head, resuming her meal.
Before long, she set down her utensils and took a deep breath. As she turned her head, she found the man still gazing at her, a hint of a smile lingering in his eyes.
Adeline knew she couldn't evade his attention. Reluctantly, she drew in another breath and reached for Jasper's utensils, proceeding to feed him with care, morsel by morsel.
Jasper dined with deliberate grace, savoring each bite. Watching him eat, Adeline's mind drifted back to the early days of their marriage.
Shortly after their wedding, Jasper's exhaustion had led him to the hospital. Adeline vividly remembered his weary countenance, prompting her to take charge in the kitchen and tenderly nurse him back to health, just as she was doing now.
In that moment, memories flooded back — the gentle moments shared, the affectionate gestures exchanged.
Back then, Molly had sat by, a smirk playing on her lips, mocking Adeline's newfound role as a dutiful wife so soon after marriage.
But in the wake of later events, as Adeline lay near death, ensnared by the schemes of both Jasper and Molly, reminiscing about their shared history, she realized the bitter truth: Molly's taunts had not been aimed at her kindness, but rather at her naïveté and blind trust.
"What are you thinking about?" Seeing her furrowed brows, Jasper slightly furrowed his brows as well, thinking she was worried about the photos. "I will let Ryan handle the photos. As for Linda's press conference tomorrow morning. I have countless ways to make sure it doesn't go smoothly."
