Chapter 607 I Want Half of Jasper's Assets

Adeline tried to keep her cool, "Rex, let's be real. Our so-called engagement was just a knee-jerk reaction to last night. It's not what either of us really wants. I'm not planning to marry you, and I definitely don't want to talk about any wedding dates."

"Oh, really?" Rex chuckled on the other end of the line. "But Adeline, the news of our engagement and those photos of you trying to kiss me on stage last night are all over the place. Just check any Radiance Springs news today, and you'll see."

Rex's laugh had a menacing edge. "I suggest you meet me right now. Otherwise, I might just let it slip that my fiancée and her fiancé's brother are living in the same villa. Think your reputation can handle that?"

Adeline squinted, feeling the pressure. After a moment, she bit her lip and said, "Where?"

Rex laughed arrogantly again. "I'm at Royal Elegance Dining! Don't be late, fiancée!"

With that, Rex hung up.

Adeline stared at her phone, her mind racing. She took a deep breath and checked the news. Just like Rex said, the front pages were plastered with photos of her and Rex, and news of their engagement.

As she scrolled, she saw reports suggesting that last night's engagement was a scheme between her and Rex to boost Rex's status in the Foster family and humiliate Jasper at his own engagement. The thought made her furious.

She quickly changed her clothes and headed out.

"Sir, Madam took a cab to Royal Elegance Dining."

Shortly after Adeline left, the butler knocked on the study door, where Jasper was deep in thought.

Jasper frowned, "Royal Elegance Dining? Who's she meeting?"

"The people you had follow Nathan and Rex have news," the butler continued. "Nathan's still at the hotel, but Rex took a cab to Royal Elegance Dining three minutes ago."

Jasper's eyes narrowed. "She's meeting Rex? What could they possibly need to talk about?"

Irritated, he tossed the document he was holding and wheeled himself towards the door. "Get the car ready. We're going to Royal Elegance Dining."

Half an hour later, Adeline walked into Royal Elegance Dining with a folder in hand.

"Fiancée, over here!" Rex stood up in the corner and called out loudly as soon as she entered.

Everyone in the restaurant turned to look at Adeline. People started whispering.

"I saw on the news that this guy is Jasper's brother and got engaged to Adeline. I thought it was fake news, but..."

"Why would she be interested in such a sleazy guy?"

"You don't know, last night it was announced that Adeline was engaged to Jasper, and there were even photos of them together. But then she suddenly switched and got engaged to Jasper's brother."

"Jasper must be so embarrassed."

The murmurs made Adeline clench her fists.

She took a deep breath, trying to keep her anger in check, and walked quickly over to Rex.

"Fiancée, why are you so slow?" Rex chuckled as Adeline sat down, winking at her while sipping his coffee. "The reporters have been waiting for you forever!"

Adeline paused, then noticed several reporters outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, snapping photos. She frowned, "You called the reporters?"

"Of course," Rex smirked. "After all, you confirmed my identity as Mr. Rex Foster at the engagement ceremony last night. You're so good to me, and as my fiancée, I naturally want everyone to know when we go on a date!"

Adeline glared at him and immediately pulled the curtains shut. "You jerk!"

Rex laughed, "Thanks for the compliment."

He leaned back lazily in his chair, eyeing Adeline. "But I must remind you, I am now your fiancé. You can insult me all you want because, to others, it will just seem like we're flirting. And since you're willing to flirt with me, I'll treat you..."

He squinted, his voice lowering, "Better and better, until we get married, and I will never let go."

Adeline squinted her eyes, knowing he was threatening her. She took a deep breath and looked steadily at the arrogant man in front of her. "Rex, everything last night was an accident, and you know it better than I do. Since last night's farce has already elevated you from an unknown illegitimate child to the well-known Mr. Rex Foster in Radiance Springs, your goal should have been achieved."

She added, "You don't need to pester me, nor do you need to call me your fiancée anymore. Our engagement last night was fake."

Rex raised an eyebrow, "You think you can just say it's fake and that's the end of it? Everyone who attended last night witnessed it!"

He took out his phone and showed her a photo of Adeline on stage, almost kissing his face. "This photo clearly shows how much you like me. You say our engagement is fake? Do you want everyone to know that you tricked Jasper last night and now you're trying to trick me?"

Adeline bit her lip tightly. She took a deep breath and looked at Rex's face. "Rex, I don't want to be harsh, but if you insist on maintaining this engagement, I can find out about your girlfriends. How would you feel if I gathered them all and exposed you for the scumbag you are?"

Her words made Rex's expression change. He frowned at Adeline, lowering his voice, "How do you know?"

Adeline didn't actually know. But she vaguely remembered Jasper mentioning last night that Rex was a scumbag who dated multiple women at the same time. He probably wasn't truly single now. So, she took a calculated risk by saying it. It seemed her gamble had succeeded.

Seeing Rex's somewhat panicked face, Adeline took a deep breath and handed him the prepared document. "These are my terms for breaking off the engagement. We will peacefully announce the end of our engagement in half a month, and I'll give you $50,000."

She didn't want Rex, an irrelevant person, to affect her progress in helping Bennett regain his memory. However, Rex glanced at the document and threw it aside. "$50,000? Are you trying to get rid of a beggar?"

Adeline squinted, "Then how much do you want?"

"How much?" Rex sneered. "I want half of Jasper's assets."
