Chapter 61 She Was Just a Six-Year-Old Child

Helen quickly responded with her voice raised, "I'm over here."

Adeline knew that it was time for her and Lauren to leave, because she couldn't engage in conflict with Molly in front of Helen.

However, her legs and heart felt as heavy as lead and she just couldn't bring herself to move away.

Six years had passed since she had last seen the middle-aged woman who now stood before her.

Her mother.

Her throat felt dry, and she wanted to speak, but not a single word came out.

"What's going on?" Molly asked as she walked over.

A scornful smile appeared on Molly's lips when she saw Adeline and Lauren standing in front of Helen. "What a coincidence."

Having been confined by Jasper these past days, this was the first chance she had gotten to bring Helen out.

But she didn't expect to encounter these two so soon after leaving the house.

Helen was taken by surprise, "Molly, do you know them?"

"It's not just that," Molly scoffed, "Mom, this little girl is Lauren, the one I told you about."

Helen's eyes instantly lit up with realization.

Without hesitation, she crouched down, pulling Lauren, who was hiding behind Adeline, closer. "Is this Adeline's child?"

Seeing the little girl looking a bit afraid, she smiled warmly, "Don't be scared little one; I'm your grandmother!"

"Good girl!" she said as she embraced Lauren.

Since Adeline's passing; Helen had never returned to Denver. She even attend Molly and Jasper's engagement.

She hated the Foster family for causing the death of her eldest daughter, and taking her youngest daughter away too.

If Molly hadn't called yesterday, saying that Adeline's daughter had returned, Helen would never have come here.

She had planned to wait until after tomorrow's birthday banquet to officially meet Lauren, but who would have thought she would encounter her so soon after arriving!

Helen was both shocked and delighted; her hands trembled as she held onto Lauren's delicate little hand. "Lauren, let me have a good look at you!"

Faced with the unexpected affection from the woman, Lauren felt a bit overwhelmed.

She looked at Adeline with a pleading expression.

Adeline shook her head at her, indicating that she shouldn't resist.

So, the little girl obediently raised her head and called out sweetly, "Grandma."

Tears streamed down Helen's face from excitement. As she wiped her tears, she clung to Lauren hugging her small body. "I'm so happy, so happy!"

Adeline's stood watching with a heart full of mixed emotions.

Living in a foreign country...

Over the years, she had always worried about her aging parents back in her home country. When she woke up, she had asked Brandon to check on them, but the news she received was heartbreaking. It turned out that after her death, her mother had fallen seriously ill. Her father, who was overwhelmed with grief, began making frequent mistakes at work; eventually resulting in his dismissal, leaving him with only one option; resorting to odd jobs to make ends meet.

Adeline was devastated by this news, crying for a long time in her hospital room. Her parents were perhaps the only people in the world who still loved and cared for her. However, due to her quest for revenge and her concern for her children's future, she didn't dare to reach out to her parents. Brandon promised that he would take good care of her parents and would never update her about their situation again.

In those six years, Adeline resolved not investigate on her own either, fearing that if she learned anything upsetting about her parents' condition, she couldn't resist rushing back and exposing herself to Jasper once again. It had already been six years since then. Remorse filled her now as she stood in front of her mother now, who didn't or couldn't recognize her.

Helen looked up, smiled, and glanced at Adeline, saying, "You're Lauren's servant, right?" The woman stared at her stiffly and nodded reluctantly, "Yes, I am." "Let me introduce myself. I'm Lauren's grandmother," Helen said, looking at the bewildered maid in front of her. She as though she knew her somehow, but she couldn't recall ever meeting such a beautiful maid before.

Taking a deep breath, she continued, "I know your job is to take care of Lauren, so I wanted to ask if I may have dinner with her." Adeline pursed her lips and said, "Sure." Truthfully, she should have refused. But when faced with her beloved mother, she couldn't bring herself to say no.

"Why bother consulting her?" Molly rolled her eyes at her mother, "She's just a servant. As Lauren's grandmother, you can simply have dinner with your granddaughter without asking for her permission!" Helen turned back, glaring at Molly angrily before scolding her; "This is her job, of course we should ask!" Then, she apologized to Adeline, "I'm sorry, my daughter has been spoiled since she was a child..." Standing still, Adeline looked at Helen with mixed emotions.

There was a time when Helen protected and spoiled her, but now she was an outsider. With Adeline's permission, Helen carried Lauren and headed to the restaurant, with Adeline and Molly following behind. "Why do you bother?" Molly crossed her arms and spoke arrogantly while looking at Lauren.

In the back, with a cold voice, Adeline spoke, "For the sake of this little girl, I have risked my life time and time again."

"But in the end, isn't she still my sister's daughter, my mother's granddaughter? We are family."

"You?" Molly raised her eyebrow. "You are nothing but an irrelevant existence."

Adeline hung her head and remained silent.

"But don't worry, for now, I can't do anything to this little wench," Molly glanced at the person who had been tailing them from a distance. "Jasper cherishes her too much."

The thought that she couldn't act on her desires for the moment, intensified Molly's hatred for Adeline.

If it wasn't for this damned maid, she would have dealt with the child a long time ago!

Was it necessary for it to turn out like this?

Adeline looked at her Weakly and spoke in a lowered voice, "She's just a six-year-old child."

Molly snorted, "So what?"

Her age was irrelevant! She was still a thorn in her side!

As long as Adeline didn't appear, the child would remain a constant nuisance to her!

Helen took Lauren and Molly to a French restaurant.

When the waiter brought the menu, Helen playfully placed the menu in front of Lauren; "Can you read? Is there anything special you'd like to eat?"

After a brief moment of thought, Lauren confidently spoke up, "I want to order a Chocolate Mousse."

Helen was pleasantly surprised, "Do you like Chocolate Mousse? It was your mother's favorite dessert. Every time she went out, she had to have it!"

Lauren discreetly glanced at Adeline, "Actually, I don't like it... I'm ordering it for auntie Adeline."

Lauren had peeked at Adeline's diary before and knew that Adeline yearned to eat Chocolate Mousse by her mother's side.

Even though their roles were different today... it could still fulfill her wish, right?

The smile on Helen's face froze.

She forced a smile, glancing at Adeline, "Do you also like Chocolate Mousse?"

"Lauren's mom also liked it..." Adeline lowered her head, trying her best to hold back her tears. "What a coincidence."

"Yeah." Helen sighed, "That silly girl. I told her not to marry Jasper. I knew someone like him would never treat her well, the way she deserved to be treated. But she didn't listen and even almost severed all ties with me..."
