Chapter 179 I'd Like to Make You an Offer

Blake's frown deepened slightly at the barrage of questions from Jasper.

When Jasper asked him, the depth and sharpness in his tone were inescapable, even over the phone.

Blake felt scrutinized as if Jasper were in front of him, peering with penetrating eyes that saw too much, making him feel suffocated.

Taking a deep breath to compose himself, Blake adjusted the collar of his hospital gown. The voice that was usually so calm now betrayed a hint of uncertainty. "Mr. Foster, who I am and my relationship to Adeline... You'll come to know all in good time."

Jasper chuckled lightly, leaning against the guardrail on the roadside, looking out at the distant bay bridge. "You must be quite young."

Even through the altered voice, Jasper could sense the caller's suppressed panic.

"Let's meet up."

"No need." Blake breathed out and ended the call.

After severing the connection, he handcuffed himself to the bedpost and took deep breaths for a long while until his frantically beating heart finally calmed down.

It had been ages since he felt this anxious.

The last time he was this nervous was when his computer was hacked by Jasper.

Instinctively, he climbed out of bed and sat down at the small desk to power up the damaged laptop.

[Don't try to find me. — Jasper.]

Staring at the green text on his computer screen, Blake exhaled heavily, his fingers tracing the name "Jasper" gently.

His father...

Blake wondered what kind of man he was.

He used to hate Jasper, never looking forward to meeting him.

But now...

Closing his eyes, the doctor's words echoed in his mind. "The truth is your mother has no idea that your illness...leaves you with less than a year. If she can't find a matching donor in time..."

A bitter smile flickered across Blake's face.

'Mr. Foster. I hope you're fighting hard so that I'll get the chance to meet you one day.'

...

Back in Denver, Jasper didn't rush to trace the origin of the call upon hanging up. He knew the caller was a skilled hacker, and finding their location and identity would take months, if not more.

Suddenly, an anonymous text message came through. It contained a GPS address in downtown Denver.

With a frown, he forwarded the address to Ryan. "Head here now."

Ryan hurried to start the car. He, Jasper, and their team dashed toward the address indicated on the phone.

...

Inside a rental in downtown Denver, Diana was delightfully flipping through photos of Bennett and Lauren pinned under Victor's patent leather shoes.

After browsing for quite a while, she remembered to share them with Stella.

"Stella, check this out. This will definitely cheer you up!"

At the moment, Stella was lying on a hospital bed feeling blue, pondering how to face her father back home and how to shake off Jasper's surveillance.

When she received Diana's message, she scowled. "Nothing would cheer me up right now except for Jasper falling for me."

"But this will definitely brighten your mood!"

Confident, Diana sent the photo to Stella. "Look!"

The woman frowned, clicking on the photo with a mix of curiosity and confusion.

But as her gaze landed on the two figures in the photo, her pupils dilated in shock. "Diana, have you lost your mind?"

These two were Jasper's prized treasures. Ever since she stepped into Jasper's world, she had been itching to make a move on the pair of them.

However, she had held off, partly because she wasn't as foolish as Molly to let her likes and dislikes be known so easily, and partly because she wasn't sure if Jasper trusted her enough yet while things were still up in the air.

Even she herself didn't dare to cross these two troublemakers. Yet, Diana was relentless.

"What's there to fear?" Over the phone, Diana's lips curled into a sneer. "The guys I hired are from Vegas, not locals. Plus, all the numbers I used to contact them are encrypted. They won't be able to trace back to me.

"Besides, I didn't ask my guy to kill them, just a simple beating to teach them a lesson. Evelyn, why have you turned into such a scaredy-cat since you've become Stella?"

A cold gasp escaped Stella's lips.

She wasn't scared, she was being cautious.

"You need to throw away any means of communication you have with that guy right now, cancel the lease on your place, and hideout in Vegas for a while." Stella gripped the phone tightly. "Now, right now, immediately, go!"

Diana had been spoiled since childhood, relying on her family's clout in Vegas to throw her weight around.

However, this wasn't Vegas, and Jasper was not someone to be trifled with.

On the other line, Diana smiled once more. "Evelyn, why are you so nervous? It's nothing—"

Her words were cut short by an urgent knock on the door of the rental.

"Evelyn, I got to go. Someone's here."

Diana set the phone down and stood to open the door. Perhaps by a slip of the hand, the phone line remained open.

Stella listened with crystal clarity to Diana's voice, laced with shock.

"Mr.... Mr. Foster? Why are you at my place?"

Then, the voice was followed by the sound of a door closing.

After a long moment, a man's deep and indifferent voice came through. "Miss Martinez, why do you think I'm here?"

That voice...

In a panic, Stella hung up.

She closed her eyes, her fists clenching tight at her sides.

That fool, Diana!

But now wasn't the time for blame.

She opened her eyes, frowning deeply. With the situation as it was, she needed to find a way to save Diana.

No matter what, she couldn't let Diana fall under Jasper's control.

Diana, who had never suffered a day in her life and was hot-tempered, would surely spill the beans under Jasper's harsh interrogation.

Stella bit her lip hard.

After a long while, a name finally surfaced in her mind.

Trembling, she pulled out her cell phone and dialed that number.

Inside Willowcrest Terrace, Adeline tended to Bennett's wounds with a gentle touch.

Lauren stood by; her eyes brimming with tears as she held Bennett's hand. "Thank you, Bennett."

Bennett lifted his hand and affectionately ruffled her hair. "You're my sister. Who else would I protect if not you?"

At his words, Lauren's eyes turned even redder.

Adeline let out a soft sigh, about to say something, when her phone rang.

It was an unfamiliar number.

Handing the antiseptic swab and bottle to Lauren, she stepped aside to take the call. "Hello?"

"This is Stella Collins."

At the mention of the name"Stella Collins," Adeline stiffened.

She managed to squeeze out a response through clenched teeth. "What do you want, calling me now?"

"There's been a misunderstanding, Adeline."

Stella took a deep breath. "I'd like to propose a deal."
