Chapter 808 How About Letting Her Come with Me
Seeing Daisy's smug expression, Adeline's brows knitted together.
She wanted to just turn around and leave.
But then, her gaze fell on Howard, who was being supported by Daisy.
No matter how wrong he was, he was still her biological father.
The man Zara would protect with her life.
She had just spent the entire day praying for Zara to wake up soon.
If she angered Howard now...
Adeline sighed, weighing the pros and cons, and finally walked over, reaching out to support Howard.
"Dad."
"I..."
She took a deep breath. "I was wrong."
"Get out!" Howard wasn't having any of it. He shoved Adeline away with surprising force.
Adeline stumbled back, her back slamming into the wall.
The pain was excruciating.
With a pale face, she gritted her teeth and stood up, leaning against the wall.
"Your health isn't good right now. I shouldn't be arguing with you."
Taking a deep breath, Adeline looked Howard in the eye. "But there are some things I need to make clear."
Seeing that Adeline was about to explain what had just happened, Daisy quickly shouted.
"Doctor!"
"Doctor!"
"My dad is coughing up blood! Hurry!"
Her words cut off Adeline's voice.
Adeline frowned and raised her voice.
"It won't make a difference!"
Howard had been coughing up blood for a while now. Both Daisy and Brandon had let him continue while they berated her.
Now that she wanted to explain, they were calling for the doctor, clearly to stop her from speaking.
"How can you say it won't make a difference?"
Daisy glared at Adeline.
"Dad's health is so poor, he's coughing up blood!"
"And you won't let the doctor save him, making him listen to your explanation instead?"
"Adeline, do you have a heart?"
Daisy's shouting had already attracted a crowd of doctors and nurses, filling the hallway.
Her words sparked a wave of comments from the medical staff.
"His own daughter cares less than the adopted one."
"Exactly... Even if Mr. Phoebe's blood loss isn't critical, how can she not let the doctor help him?"
"If I were Mr. Phoebe, I'd be heartbroken!"
The voices around her grew louder and more numerous.
Adeline's hands clenched into fists at her sides.
"Let's get him treated first."
Jasper stepped forward, grabbing Adeline's hand and pulling her aside.
Once Adeline moved, the doctors and nurses helped Howard onto a bed and took him into a room.
Standing in the hallway, Adeline stared at the closed door, her fists clenched tightly.
"Ms. Phoebe, you're too much!"
Saul, who had always stayed out of the Phoebe family disputes, finally couldn't hold back. He strode up to Adeline.
"Mr. Phoebe's health has been poor for years, relying on Mrs. Phoebe's medicine to stay alive."
"Mrs. Phoebe has been in a coma for over eight months now, and the medicine she made is almost gone. Mr. Phoebe is holding on by sheer willpower."
"And you keep provoking him!"
"He's your biological father!"
"How can you treat him like this?"
Adeline leaned against the wall, her mind in a fog.
She glanced towards the room. "My father..."
She had always heard that Zara's health was poor. This was the first time she heard about Howard's condition.
Adeline turned to Saul, lowering her voice.
"Hasn't my father's health always been good?"
"That's just a facade!"
Saul was heartbroken.
"After the previous Mrs. Phoebe passed away, Mr. Phoebe often lost his mind."
"To save him, Mrs. Phoebe started testing poisons on herself and finally developed a medicine."
"But this medicine, while it can treat Mr. Phoebe, is deadly to ordinary people. Only Mrs. Phoebe knew the formula and could make it."
"Now, Mrs. Phoebe is in a coma, and the medicine is gone. Mr. Phoebe could relapse at any moment, and you're provoking him!"
"How can you be so heartless?"
Adeline was stunned.
She bit her lip hard. "I didn't..."
She didn't know that Howard's illness had been managed with poison, nor that his health was so poor!
Moreover, she hadn't come here to provoke him!
"Didn't?"
Saul was furious. "If you weren't here to provoke Mr. Phoebe, why did you bring Jasper here so late?"
Adeline's eyes darkened, and she let out a bitter laugh.
"If I said it was a coincidence that Jasper and I showed up together, would you believe me?"
"It wasn't a coincidence."
As Adeline and Saul faced off, David, who had been silent, smirked.
He walked out of the elevator and strode over to Linda, wrapping an arm around her.
"Let me introduce you all. This is my woman, Linda Phoebe."
"She spent the day with Adeline praying for your Mrs. Phoebe at the church, and she's exhausted."
"Instead of going home, she came straight to the hospital."
"I was worried about her, so I came to find her."
He glanced at Jasper. "As for him... He was with me. I drank, he didn't, so I had him drive me."
To prove his point, David cupped Linda's face and kissed her hard on the lips.
Linda, shocked by the sudden kiss, quickly pushed him away and wiped her lips.
David smirked, looking at Saul.
"If you don't believe me, you can check my relationship with Linda. I can also give you access to my call records to see if I came here out of concern for Linda or if Adeline brought Jasper to anger her father."
His words silenced the hallway.
Saul opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.
Who would have thought... The unassuming woman with Adeline was actually the notorious gang leader in Oceancrest City, David's woman?
And who would have thought Jasper was only here because he was with David?
Jasper fiddled with his lighter, a cold smile on his lips.
"I didn't expect that accompanying my friend to see his woman would lead to such a misunderstanding."
"If you look down on Adeline so much, why not let her come with me?"
He shot a cold glance at Saul.
"At least my people know their place and don't question their masters."
