Chapter 895 Her Child!
Adeline turned her face away, refusing to answer Oliver's question.
Staring out the car window at the passing scenery, she spoke softly, "Oliver, didn't you say you sent someone to look into Daisy's death? Was it really an accident?"
Oliver noticed her change of subject and furrowed his brow but decided to let it slide.
"Right now, it doesn't look like just an accident. That area is usually empty, and Oceancrest City has strict rules about when and where big trucks can go. That truck shouldn't have been there at that time or on that road."
He paused, glancing out the window. "But it was there, and it hit Daisy on an empty road, killing her. I think it was intentional. And right after Daisy's accident, Brandon disappeared. He canceled the lease on the villa he shared with Daisy and then set it on fire."
Adeline bit her lip, staying silent for a moment. "Brandon isn't the impulsive type. If he burned the villa, he must've had a good reason. Maybe there was something there that was key to Daisy's murder."
Oliver nodded, understanding her thoughts. "I'll keep digging. My gut tells me there's more to this."
The stress took its toll on Adeline, and after handling Daisy's funeral, she came down with a high fever for two days. With the company not needing her for a few days, Oliver decided to give her some time off.
On the third night, Adeline's fever finally broke. Still feeling unwell, she called Sebastian and arranged to visit Linda at David's house.
After Linda's severe bleeding last time, David had taken her home directly instead of keeping her in the hospital. Adeline couldn't stop worrying about her.
Although she couldn't rescue Linda from David's confinement, seeing her and knowing she was okay would put her at ease.
Plus, the person Adeline sent to Neon City to deliver Daisy's ashes had returned, bringing back many local specialties. Adeline packed them all, hoping to cheer Linda up with a taste of home.
But when Adeline and Sebastian arrived at David's house, they were turned away by his guards. "Mr. Stonehaven said Ms. Linda Phoebe needs rest and won't see anyone!"
Standing at the villa's entrance with two large bags of specialties, Adeline and Sebastian tried to persuade the guards but got nowhere.
They even asked to see David directly, but the guards refused, saying David didn't want to see any guests.
Just as they were about to give up, a black sports car pulled up behind them.
A tall, well-built man in a black suit gracefully stepped out of the car, his gaze briefly sweeping over Adeline and Sebastian.
"Need some help?" he asked.
Seeing it was Jasper, Adeline frowned slightly, greeted him coldly, and turned to leave. She still blushed thinking about the time Jasper hugged her after Daisy's death.
Habits are really hard to break.
Even though she and Jasper had a falling out at the Everglade City Clio research institute, where Jasper mocked her for using her body to make deals, she couldn't resist his embrace when she felt helpless and scared.
Remembering how she was mocked in the morning and cried in his arms in the afternoon made Adeline feel utterly embarrassed.
She didn't want to see Jasper, let alone face him.
But Sebastian didn't know any of this.
Instead of following Adeline, he grabbed her hand and smiled at Jasper. "We do need help. We want to see Linda, but David's guards won't let us."
He showed Jasper the bags he was holding. "We brought specialties from Neon City to cheer her up."
Jasper's indifferent gaze swept over the items in Sebastian's hands before settling on Adeline's face. "Ms. Wilson, do you need help?"
Adeline turned her face away, ignoring him.
Since she and Sebastian were together, if Jasper helped Sebastian, it would indirectly help her, so she didn't need to talk to Jasper.
Seeing her still pale profile, Jasper smirked, his deep voice carrying a hint of provocation. "If you don't need help, I'll just take Sebastian inside."
He strode over and snatched the specialties from Adeline's hands. "If you're not going in, give me the stuff, and I'll take Sebastian inside."
He then walked over to the guards and pointed to Sebastian. "This gentleman is my friend. Can I take him inside?"
Given Jasper's relationship with David, the guards couldn't refuse him. The two guards who had been strict with Adeline and Sebastian now smiled warmly at Jasper.
"If Mr. Foster wants to bring someone in, we can't say no!"
Jasper responded indifferently and really only took Sebastian inside.
Adeline bit her lip, hesitating at the entrance for a long time before finally calling out, "Jasper!"
His tall, upright figure paused slightly. He turned and smiled at her. "Ms. Wilson, anything else?"
Adeline bit her lip. "I want to go in."
Jasper raised an eyebrow, a hint of smugness on his handsome face. "When asking for help, shouldn't you be polite?"
Adeline glared at him. Though reluctant, she still wanted to see Linda. So she took a deep breath and forced herself to speak. "Mr. Foster, please help me and take me inside."
Jasper finally smiled and curled his lips. "Remember, you owe me one."
He added, "Not a favor."
Adeline's eyes rolled skyward. She quickly stepped around the guards and followed Jasper inside.
As soon as the three of them entered the villa, Adeline's phone rang. She glanced at the name; it was Tamsin. Without thinking, Adeline hung up.
Oliver had already explained his relationship with Tamsin to Adeline in the past few days. Combined with what Daisy said before she died, Adeline couldn't trust Tamsin anymore.
Tamsin seemed to understand Adeline's attitude. After Adeline hung up, she didn't call again. But she sent a photo.
Adeline opened it casually. The moment she saw the photo, she felt her heart almost stop.
Her child!
