Chapter 460 Going for a Drive
Hearing Richard's excited voice on the other end of the phone, Adeline rubbed her temples, feeling a bit helpless.
"I've told you a million times, I'm not your teacher," Adeline said, recalling Richard's constant claim that she was his mentor.
Her constant corrections just made Richard laugh. "But to me, you totally are. You inspired my designs and got me into the jewelry game. You're my guide, so you're my teacher. And I've been keeping tabs on you for years. I can spot your work a mile away. Just accept it. If anyone tries to rip off your designs, I got your back!"
His twisted logic made Adeline both amused and exasperated. She rubbed her temples again. "If that's how you see it, then fine."
"Really?" Richard's voice was practically bouncing through the phone. "You really agree to let me be your student?"
Adeline shrugged. "Well, even if I don't, you still go around telling everyone I'm your teacher, right?"
Richard laughed awkwardly and kept insisting they should grab dinner after the competition before hanging up.
After the call, the taxi had already pulled up at Blue Bay.
When Adeline got home, Blake and Lauren were at the door, looking worried.
Blake still seemed frustrated, probably still stuck on that virus he couldn't crack.
Lauren looked even sadder. "Mommy, I heard about it."
Adeline smiled. "News travels fast, huh? Even my Lauren knows?"
Lauren pursed her lips. "Blake's a hacker, remember? He hacked into the Foster Group's content group and saw it."
Adeline was a bit stunned and finally sighed. "I can't hide anything from you guys, can I?"
She squatted down and hugged Lauren. "Mommy's fine. I've worked so hard for so long; I finally have a reason to chill. Mommy's happy. The competition starts in two days. When it's over, we'll hit up Radiance Springs for some fun, and then we'll go abroad to find Brandon, okay?"
Lauren bit her lip.
In the past, when Adeline said stuff like this, Lauren would get upset and refuse. Unlike Blake and Bennett, she never liked Brandon. She thought Adeline should be with their real dad, Jasper. But now, after what Jasper did, Lauren felt she couldn't forgive him.
So Lauren took a deep breath. "Okay! It's good that Mommy can rest!"
Adeline said, "Mommy will make you something yummy tonight, okay?"
Adeline gently pinched Lauren's nose, placed her and Blake on the sofa, and headed to the kitchen.
She'd been swamped with work and hadn't cooked for them in a while.
Blake and Lauren lay on the sofa, watching Adeline bustle around in the kitchen, and sighed.
Lauren asked, "Blake, do you think Mom's just faking it?"
Blake said, "Totally."
Lauren asked, "How can we make Mommy really happy?"
Blake said, "Adults are more complicated than codes. We're just kids; we should just be good."
Lauren nodded. "Okay!"
After Adeline finished cooking, she ate with Blake and Lauren and then put them to bed.
When she came out of the kids' room, it was already ten at night. Adeline went back to her room.
The floor was covered with her design drafts from working at home.
The once spacious bedroom had turned into a second studio, cluttered with design drafts.
Adeline sighed, feeling a mix of emotions as she looked around. She squatted down, ready to tidy up, when a car horn blared outside. It was long and insistent, like it was calling someone.
She frowned and instinctively glanced out the window.
A dark blue sports car was parked below. Vikram, in a black leather jacket, was leaning against the car door, looking up at her window.
Seeing her, Vikram's lips curled into a mischievous smile. He pulled out his phone.
Moments later, Adeline's phone rang. It was Vikram.
She frowned and answered, "Why are you here?"
"Stop honking! Blake and Lauren just fell asleep," she added.
Vikram laughed. "I heard you had a rough day. Thought I'd take you out to unwind. How about a ride? I brought this sports car just for you. Wanna give it a spin?"
Adeline thought for a moment and smiled. "Alright."
She had never been taken for a ride like this before.
At nineteen, Vikram was full of energy, but she had already met Jasper. Wrapped up in love, she never had the same youthful exuberance as her peers. Jasper, being older and more mature, liked obedient girls. She spent her youth learning to be a good wife to him. Now, she had a chance to make up for lost time.
Thinking of this, she took a deep breath. "Wait for me!"
She hung up, turned, and went into the walk-in closet.
Most of her wardrobe was professional attire. After searching for a while, she found a light blue long dress.
Blake and Lauren had gifted it to her on her birthday this year, designed in her style from six years ago.
She hadn't worn such a dress in a long time, but it was a thoughtful gesture from her kids, so she kept it. Now was the perfect time to wear it.
Adeline let her hair down, skipped the makeup, and went downstairs in the dress.
By the sports car, Vikram's eyes widened when he saw her.
"No one would believe you're the mother of two six-year-olds dressed like this," Vikram exclaimed.
Adeline usually looked gentle, mature, and stunningly beautiful, but now, with her hair down and in a long dress, she looked even more pure and cute than the just-turned-twenty Luna.
"Thanks for the compliment." Adeline shrugged and slid into the passenger seat. "Aren't we going for a ride?"
Vikram was momentarily stunned, then quickly nodded, opened the car door, and got in the driver's seat. "Buckle up. We're off!"
The engine roared to life, and the dark blue sports car shot out like an arrow.
After the car left, someone in a corner of Blue Bay silently sent a photo of Adeline getting into Vikram's car to Mr. Foster. [Miss Wilson went out with Mr. Das.]
On the other end of the phone, Jasper glanced coldly at the time.
'It's 10:30 PM. Adeline actually got into Vikram's car dressed like that?' he wondered.
