Chapter 571 About Your Past
Adeline never expected Jasper to be so bold.
His firm chest pressed against her, pinning her down on the couch. She could feel his body heat, his heartbeat, and his breath. Her own breathing got a bit shaky.
Jasper squinted at her delicate features, his gaze cold and intense. "Answer me, Adeline."
He couldn't believe that the same Adeline who had fought so hard to pull him out of a desperate situation would have no feelings for him and see marrying him as a burden.
Adeline met his deep, dark eyes. She didn't push him away or struggle.
"Mr. Foster, I think you've got it all wrong. In that situation, I would've done my best to save anyone."
She continued, "It had nothing to do with who you are. You saved my Blake. I couldn't let you fall."
She curled her lips into a faint smile. "Saving you in a dangerous situation doesn't mean I have feelings for you."
Her words were cold and unfeeling, making his gaze darken instantly.
Jasper squinted, his eyes locked on Adeline's face.
"So saving me is no different from saving a stray dog?"
Seeing the anger in his eyes, Adeline pursed her lips and smiled. "Of course not. The dog I saved would wag its tail and wouldn't push me into danger again."
Jasper's fingers tightened around Adeline's hands. She meant he was worse than a dog and marrying him was like throwing herself into a pit of fire.
Jasper suppressed the anger in his heart and slowly released her hands. Finally, he stood up.
With his weight off her, Adeline leaned back on the couch, finally able to take deep breaths.
When he was pressing down on her, she was afraid he would notice that her coldness and firmness were just a facade. After he let her go, she felt a sense of relief.
Jasper watched her gasp for air, a self-mocking smile on his lips.
He lowered his head and elegantly straightened his wrinkled shirt from pressing against Adeline.
"Adeline, I gave you a chance. Since you think our marriage is a hassle, I won't bring it up again. You can just wait for Molly to make the first move."
With that, he walked to the coat rack and picked up the gray trench coat he wore last night.
As a workholic, he rarely wore anything other than suits and trousers.
The reason he wore this trench coat yesterday was that he remembered Adeline once said he would look very handsome in a trench coat with his tall, broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted figure.
But last night, Adeline didn't even glance at his trench coat.
He smirked to himself, draped the trench coat over his arm, and turned to leave.
When he reached the door, he paused. "Adeline, if you ever regret it, you know where to find me."
Adeline sat on the couch, watching him walk away, a cold smile on her lips. She would never regret refusing to marry him.
Lauren leaned against the window, watching the direction Jasper's car left, and sighed deeply.
It seemed Jasper's efforts had failed. She wondered if he would persist or give up this time.
She turned to look at Blake, who was furiously typing on his laptop.
Blake was venting to an online friend about his troubles, unwilling to talk to her.
Blake used to like talking to Bennett, since they were twins. Bennett could empathize with his feelings.
Now that Bennett was gone, he had taken to confiding in a little hacker he met online.
Lauren sighed. She thought, 'When will Blake open up to me?'
[So, your brother betrayed you and became your enemy?]
Meanwhile, in the presidential suite of a hotel in Radiance Springs, Bennett was looking at Blake's complaints on the computer and couldn't help but type a comforting message: [Your brother is really out of line.]
He kept typing: [You were so sad, but it turned out he wasn't dead and even became your enemy's subordinate.]
On the other side of the screen, Blake's response lit up: [Maybe he has his reasons? But as his brother, I can't accept my own brother becoming this kind of person.]
Bennett sighed and continued typing: [That's really too much! Doesn't he have any conscience?]
As soon as he sent this message, he felt a pain in his heart.
Bennett quickly clutched his chest and made a call.
Soon, Sebastian came in with a large bag of medicine. He held Bennett tightly in his arms while hurriedly taking out the medicine and feeding it to Bennett.
After taking all the medicine, Bennett finally relaxed as he lay weakly in Sebastian's arms.
He closed his eyes, his whole body exhausted. "The frequency of these attacks is increasing. What's going on?"
Every time his heart hurt, it would also cause a headache, leaving his mind blank.
Sebastian was silent for a moment before he couldn't help but sigh. He looked at Bennett seriously.
"Have you been remembering things about your past recently?"
