Chapter 483 Do You Really Have to Hurt Me Like This?

Adeline's idea was something Jason was totally against.

Just as he was about to shut it down, Adeline whipped out her phone and hit speaker.

Blake's chipper voice rang out. "Hey, if Uncle Jason doesn't play ball, I'll spill all his secrets! I know who he's been crushing on for the last ten years, and I know about that time he got wrecked in a game and got his account banned!"

Hearing the kid's kinda immature but still threatening words, Jason's face twisted up. "Blake, that's messed up! If I get mad, I could sue you."

Blake just pouted. "But Uncle Jason, if you sue me, my dad's gonna have a word with you. He won't let his precious son go to jail, so chill."

The office went dead quiet for a bit. In the end, Jason had no choice but to give in and reluctantly made the call to Jasper.

After a few rings, Jasper's low, indifferent voice came through. "She left?"

Jason bit his lip and nodded silently. "Yeah, she left. I told you there was no need to sneak out the back. Hiding in the secret door would've been enough. How could Adeline possibly know where it is in my office?"

Jason's words made Jasper chuckle on the other end. "True, she's always been kinda clueless, not that sharp."

The way Jasper talked about Adeline made the office go silent again.

Jason glanced at the pale-faced Adeline in front of him and lowered his voice. "Actually, Adeline's not that bad. She's pretty smart."

Jasper wasn't having it. "I don't think so."

Jasper's voice was cold. "If I hadn't stepped in, she would've not only lost her dignity yesterday but also trashed the reputation she built as Master Moon. A woman like that, and you call her smart?"

Sitting across from Jason, Adeline squinted, her hands clenching into fists.

This was the first time she heard Jasper talk about her in front of someone else. And it was in front of his long-time buddy, Jason. No matter how fake someone might be in front of others, the stuff they say to their best friend is usually the real deal.

Adeline closed her eyes.

She thought, 'Jasper, is this how you've always seen me?'

Even though she told herself a million times not to care, not to mind, hearing Jasper talk about her in such a nasty way made her heart feel like it was crawling with bugs, biting her bit by bit.

Jasper's words not only made Adeline uncomfortable but also made Jason feel they were a bit too harsh.

He pursed his lips. "Jasper, how can you say that?"

"How should I say it then?" Jasper's voice had a hint of mockery. "Don't tell me Adeline is still there with you? Otherwise, why wouldn't you let me speak the truth?"

Jason furrowed his brows. What was up with Jasper today? Usually, when he mentioned Adeline, his voice and tone were as gentle as could be. Why was he acting so weird today?

Jason found it odd, but with Adeline right there, he couldn't say much and quickly changed the subject. "By the way, Jasper, why did you send those emails to Mia to help Adeline? By sending those emails, you gave Adeline and Mia the ammo to humiliate Luna. Aren't you worried Luna might have a meltdown or something?"

Jasper sat in his office, his eyes glued to the computer screen in front of him.

The screen showed the surveillance footage from Jason's office.

From the camera's angle, he could clearly see Adeline's pale, disappointed face.

Jasper closed his eyes, a bitter smile creeping onto his face.

From the moment Jason suggested hiding in the secret door, he had a hunch this would go down. So Jasper went ahead and hacked into Jason's company's surveillance system, pulling up the camera feed from his office.

Jasper could see the hidden anticipation and hope in Adeline's eyes when she thought it was him who sent the emails to Mia.

Deep down, Adeline still hoped it was Jasper, and she still hoped that his answer would show he once had feelings for her. Otherwise, why would Adeline chase Jason to his office to ask, and why would she force Jason to make this call?

But, Jasper let out a bitter smile. Between Jasper and Adeline, there were the lives of two children. Even if Adeline knew Jasper liked her and had always been helping her, could Adeline really let go of the deaths of those two kids and choose to be with him? She'd still be torn up inside. One person's pain was better than two people suffering together.

So, Jasper took a deep breath. "I wasn't actually helping Adeline; I was helping myself."

Jasper's words made Jason's eyes widen. "Helping yourself?"

Jason thought, 'What kind of logic is that?'

Jasper said, "Of course, I was helping myself."

Jasper shifted into a more comfortable position in his chair, reaching out to touch the screen showing Adeline's slightly disappointed face. He said insincerely, "If I hadn't sent that email to Mia, what would have happened yesterday?

Sure, Luna would have been the star of Radiance Springs, but then what? She'd have to deal with endless interviews and journalists, get accolades she doesn't deserve, and waste the rest of her life in the boring field of jewelry design at the Foster Group.

You know, Luna has less than a year left. As a man who loves her deeply, how could I let her spend her remaining time in an industry that doesn't suit her? But I can't just force her to stop; she'd get mad at me."

Jasper's deep voice carried a hint of laughter. "So I thought of this method. I found the videos and evidence of Luna's recent mistakes and gave them all to Mia. This way, even if Luna wants to stay in the jewelry design industry, she has no reason. I can easily bring Luna back to my side, to accompany me and be pampered by me. And I can subtly make Adeline leave Radiance Springs with gratitude towards me. It's a win-win situation; why wouldn't I do it?"

Jasper's words broke Adeline's heart.

He not only belittled her but also demeaned her profession, calling jewelry design a boring industry.

It turned out everything Jasper did was for Luna. It turned out that in Jasper's heart, Luna was everything.

Adeline's hands clenched tightly into fists, her eyes welling up with tears.

She pressed her thin lips together tightly, not allowing herself to make a sound.

Seeing her like this, even Jason felt a bit of pity.

Jason could tell that Jasper was speaking this way because he had already guessed that Adeline was right beside him.

Otherwise, how could Jasper not know the tone and manner he usually used when mentioning Adeline?

Thinking of this, Jason sighed deeply. "Do you really think that way?"

Jasper smirked. "Of course. If it wasn't to have more time with Luna, why would I send those emails to Mia? For Adeline? Ridiculous. Don't you know? I've hated her from the beginning, for six years now, and that has never changed!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Adeline couldn't hold back any longer. She stood up and walked out of the office with large strides.

Jasper leaned back in his chair, watching the direction Adeline left on the screen, and sighed deeply.

Jasper said, "Jason. Arrange for two people to follow her. I'm afraid she'll do something foolish."

Jason gasped. "I knew it! You did it on purpose! Do you have to be so hurtful?"
