Chapter 832 I Did It on Purpose
Seeing Adeline turn to look at her, Giselle's arrogance only grew.
She sneered, "I said, you're just a high-end escort."
Of course, Giselle knew Adeline wasn't an escort. Her demeanor and fashion sense made that clear. Plus, Jasper wasn't the type to hang out with random women.
But Giselle had just gotten word from Ryan that she was being reassigned to another position, supposedly for better pay. In reality, it was because Jasper didn't want her as his secretary anymore, all because of the woman standing in front of her.
Giselle was livid and saw Adeline hailing a cab, so she couldn't resist the chance to mock her. Her words became increasingly venomous.
"To get to your level, you must have some serious skills and rates, huh? Why are you so desperate, hailing a cab here?"
"Are you trying to get close to Mr. Foster just because he's good-looking?"
Adeline narrowed her eyes. She had complimented Jasper's taste earlier that morning. But now, looking at the person in front of her, she wondered what kind of person she was dealing with.
Sensing Adeline's anger, Giselle didn't back down; instead, she got even more aggressive.
"Too bad, even if you try to get close, Mr. Foster won't be interested in you. He likes women like me, pure and clean. He wouldn't go for someone like you, a high-end escort."
Adeline finally let out a cold laugh. "I'm dirty, and you're clean?"
She stepped closer, scrutinizing Giselle from head to toe. "Then why did Jasper sleep with me and not with you?"
One sentence ignited Giselle's fury. "You bitch! How dare you mock me, a prostitute!"
Giselle raised her hand and swung it towards Adeline's face. Adeline calmly dodged and slapped Giselle hard across the face.
"So young, yet you assume the worst about others. Is this how your parents raised you?"
Adeline didn't hold back with her slap. Giselle's face turned to the side, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth. Her anger flared up instantly.
"You dare hit me! I'll kill you!"
She charged at Adeline like a madwoman. Adeline narrowed her eyes and coldly engaged in a scuffle with her.
A few minutes later, a passerby called the police, and both Adeline and Giselle were taken to the station.
Oliver woke up to the news that Adeline had been taken to the police station for fighting. He quickly got dressed and rushed over.
To Oliver, Adeline was a gentle and elegant woman. The fact that she got into a fight was enough to shock him for a whole year. But when he arrived at the station, he was informed by the police that the two women had fought over jealousy.
From handling the paperwork to taking Adeline away, Oliver's mouth remained agape the entire time. Once they were in the car, Oliver finally took a deep breath and looked at Adeline helplessly.
"You're not a kid anymore. How could you get into a fight with a twenty-year-old girl over Jasper?"
Adeline adjusted her sleeve and shrugged. "I did it on purpose."
"On purpose?"
"Yeah." Adeline sniffed. "I lost my phone last night, and Jasper tore my clothes. I didn't have my phone or any cash on me. She showed up, so I took the opportunity to fight her and let the police contact you to take me home."
Oliver looked at her skeptically. "Really?"
Adeline reached into her pocket. "Of course."
As soon as she spoke, she felt something in her pocket. She pulled out a wad of fresh bills. Oliver gave her a meaningful look.
"No cash on you, so you fought to get into the police station?"
Adeline frowned, feeling like she couldn't explain herself. She hadn't checked her pockets before. She assumed the new clothes wouldn't have anything in them. But she hadn't expected Jasper to be so thoughtful.
Thinking of this, she glanced out the car window. Giselle had also been bailed out, and Ryan was there to pick her up. From a distance, she saw Giselle with her head down, being scolded by Ryan.
Adeline smiled and leaned back in the car seat. "Take me home."
Ryan was very cautious. If Giselle had anything with Jasper, Ryan wouldn't dare scold her. Through the rearview mirror, Oliver gave Adeline a helpless look before silently starting the car.
But neither Adeline nor Oliver knew that photos of them leaving the police station had been taken by reporters and posted online. People speculated about why Adeline and Oliver were at the police station so early.
"Could they be reporting a crime? I heard there was a shooting incident near Ms. Phoebe's place recently."
"Maybe it's not a shooting, but something else. Ms. Phoebe and Mr. Phoebe have been targeted a lot lately."
In the Torres family courtyard, several servants finished their morning chores and started gossiping.
"The one targeting her the most is our Ms. Daisy Phoebe, right?"
"Don't say that. Ms. Daisy Phoebe is getting married tomorrow. If she gets arrested today, it'll be a big problem!"
Daisy had just finished washing up and was heading to the dining room when she heard the distant chatter. She frowned and walked over quickly.
"What are you talking about?"
The servants scattered like birds. Daisy quickly grabbed one of them. "What were you saying about reporting a crime and getting arrested?"
The servant trembled and handed Daisy her phone, showing her the photo of Oliver and Adeline leaving the police station.
"We saw this and were guessing that your brother and sister went to the police station early to report a crime."
Daisy looked at the photo, her pupils contracting. In the photo, Adeline and Oliver were leaving the police station, chatting and laughing. Oliver even had his arm around Adeline's shoulder. They both seemed in good spirits.
Standing there, Daisy felt like she had been struck by lightning, unable to move. She felt her blood rushing from her feet to her head. Why did Adeline and Oliver go to the police station so early? Were they really reporting a crime? What crime?
Suddenly, she remembered Oliver's words from last night when he called her with Isaiah's phone. Daisy felt her legs go weak. She sat down on the floor, trembling as she took out her phone.
"Brandon, Brandon..."
Her voice trembled, almost crying. "What do we do? Oliver took Adeline to report a crime. It must be about last night! Our wedding is tomorrow. Will I be arrested today and sent to jail?"
