Chapter 792 Where Did My Child Go?
"How could this happen..."
Adeline was in bed, yanking out her IV like a madwoman, and ran barefoot across the floor.
"My baby, how could my baby die? How could this happen?"
"Before I passed out, I heard her cry. I heard her cry!"
Adeline grabbed the doctor's collar.
"You're lying to me. You must be lying!"
"Where is my baby?"
Her eyes glinted with a wild light.
"Did you sell my baby out of greed?"
"Did you hide my baby?"
"Answer me!"
The doctor, gasping for breath as Adeline gripped her collar, turned a deep shade of purple.
"Your baby..."
She struggled to lift her hand and pointed to a nearby trash can.
"Over there."
Adeline looked in the direction the doctor pointed, and it was as if she had been struck by lightning. She let go of the doctor and slowly walked towards the trash can.
How could this be... her baby... the baby she carried for ten months, in the trash can... was she dead?
No... it can't be!
The baby cried, cried so loudly, so clearly!
How could she be dead... Adeline forced a smile, one that looked worse than crying. The doctor must be joking with her.
It must be.
For the past eight months, she had been so careful with everything she ate, and the places she walked were always safe.
She had been so careful, nurturing this little life, waiting for her to be born.
She had endured so much, day by day.
The little one had been eager to come out, kicking her every day.
How could this be... As she walked closer to the trash can, her tears became uncontrollable, and her steps slowed.
Finally, she saw the small bundle wrapped in cloth inside the trash can.
Tears poured down.
Adeline painfully lifted the small body from the trash can and held it tightly.
"My baby... my baby... wake up, Mommy's here."
The scene was too much for the doctor, who had delivered countless babies over the years.
The intense inner struggle and pangs of conscience made her unable to look at the scene any longer.
She stumbled out of the room.
But as soon as she opened the door, she was met by a man standing outside, looking travel-worn.
The man was tall and imposing, dressed in a black suit, exuding an aura that made it hard to breathe.
Jasper glanced at the doctor, frowning, his voice hoarse.
"Where's Adeline?"
The doctor hesitated, then quickly turned back and pointed in Adeline's direction before carefully skirting around Jasper and running off.
It started to rain heavily outside.
In the flashes of lightning, Jasper looked up and saw Adeline sitting by the trash can, clutching the small, garbage-covered body like a madwoman.
She was pale and haggard, her hair plastered to her face with sweat, her belly empty, and the dead baby in her arms... Jasper's eyes flashed with a mix of shock and sorrow.
Their fourth child... was gone just like that?
Even though he was heartbroken, he forced himself to stay rational and walked over. "Adeline."
Adeline looked up, her eyes vacant, as if she didn't recognize him.
She stared at him for a long time before forcing a smile. "Jasper. I..." With that, her tears started to fall again.
"I couldn't protect this baby."
"I'm so useless, so useless... I couldn't even protect our baby... Our baby is gone, Jasper... our last connection is gone." Her crying was heart-wrenching.
Jasper's eyes reddened as he held her.
"It's okay."
"We still have Blake, Bennett, and Lauren."
"This baby... maybe she knew our relationship was strained, and she didn't want to make things harder for you, so she left on her own. Adeline, you need to wake up, be rational. You're still young, I'm still young, we can have more children."
Adeline held the small body, tears streaming down.
"No, no more... Jasper, you're from the Foster Family, I'm from the Phoebe Family, we have no future... this baby..."
She choked, almost unable to speak. "This baby was our last bond."
"She's gone... she's gone."
Adeline bit her lip, tears falling like rain.
"It's all my fault... I shouldn't have made that vow, I shouldn't have... It's all my fault, I cursed our baby."
Adeline's words made Jasper freeze.
He lowered his voice. "What vow? What curse?"
Adeline shook her head, just crying, not speaking.
No matter how much Jasper asked, she wouldn't say.
"The vow she made was under Howard's pressure. She swore that if she saw you before the baby was born, the baby wouldn't be born safely."
Suddenly, a cold male voice came from the doorway.
Jasper frowned and looked up.
In the flash of lightning, Oliver stood at the door, a thin, cold smile on his lips.
"Adeline isn't superstitious, but she didn't want anything to happen to her baby, so she begged me to find this place for her to rest."
Jasper's grip on Adeline tightened. His eyes narrowed fiercely.
Forcing Adeline to swear on her unborn baby while she was pregnant.
What kind of father, what kind of man was Howard?
For the past six months, his power in Oceancrest City had grown so much that it took both the Torres and Phoebe families to deal with him.
But even so, he had always targeted the Torres Family.
He didn't want to attack the Phoebe Family before their baby was born, fearing it would trouble Adeline.
But he never expected Howard to not only not appreciate that Adeline's baby saved the Phoebe Family but also make her swear on the baby!
Jasper bit his lip hard, holding the trembling, crying Adeline, and looked up at Oliver.
"Where is Howard...?"
"Adeline's giving birth, and he doesn't even come to see her?"
Oliver raised an eyebrow.
"You might not know."
"Daisy is also giving birth today."
"He's so close to the Torres Family now, of course, he's there for the birth. After all, Daisy is having Brandon's baby."
A flash of bloodthirsty coldness crossed Jasper's eyes.
He took a deep breath, but before he could speak, the sound of a car stopping outside interrupted him.
A servant rushed in to announce.
"Miss Wilson, Mr. Oliver Phoebe."
"Mr. Howard Phoebe is here!"
