Chapter 634 A Guest at Home
Rex's words on the phone made Adeline's brows knit together.
Rex was in Blue Bay, waiting for her to come back so he could apologize in person.
Even though Rex claimed it was Lily's idea, Adeline always felt like he had some hidden agenda.
Adeline pressed her lips together and lowered her voice, "I've got something to do, so I might be back really late."
On the other end of the line, Rex took a deep breath, "No worries. I'll wait for you no matter how late it gets. Grandma said if I don't apologize to you in person today and record a video to bring back, she won't let me return to Lillehammer. Whenever you get back, I'll be here."
Adeline's breath hitched a bit. She didn't say anything else and just hung up the phone.
Hearing Rex say he'd wait for her all night, she even thought about crashing at Violet's place.
"Mom, you should go back," Bennett, who was next to her, sighed and reached out to grab Adeline's fingers.
He added, "Since Lily sent him, maybe she really wants to see him apologize and see you forgive him. Lily's so sick. Even if it's just to make her happy, you should make a little sacrifice."
Adeline felt a slight warmth in her heart.
Bennett was always like this. Despite having faced the worst the world had to offer, he always held the purest goodwill towards everything.
Since he said so, Adeline could only take a deep breath and ruffle his already prickly hair. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
Bennett's hair had been pulled out in large patches when he was abused by Molly, and his scalp was injured, so the doctor had shaved all his hair off for treatment.
After a month of recovery, his hair had grown back, like little sprouts breaking through the soil, stubbornly growing upwards, feeling prickly and itchy to the touch.
But Adeline always liked to touch his little head, feeling that this hair represented Bennett's new life.
Knowing that Adeline liked to ruffle his hair, Bennett didn't move, letting her do as she pleased.
When she got tired, he pulled her hand down and rubbed it in his palm, "Alright, Mom, go back."
Only then did Adeline say goodbye to Sebastian and Bennett and leave the hospital.
The night was getting darker.
When Adeline took a cab back to Blue Bay, she immediately saw Rex standing at the villa gate with a big bouquet of flowers.
It was already late autumn, and he was covered in fallen leaves, looking like he'd been waiting for a long time.
Seeing the cab stop, Rex quickly ran to the car door with a smile, holding the bouquet. "Adeline, you're back! I thought you'd be back really late."
Adeline frowned and got out.
Adeline walked towards the villa, and Rex followed closely, "If you accept my apology, could you hold this bouquet and record a video with me to show Grandma?"
Adeline ignored him and walked into Blue Bay.
Rex frowned and thought, 'How could Adeline be so arrogant?'
He had only pushed her, and he had already spent a month in jail. Now he was apologizing, and she was still so indifferent.
If it weren't for Molly saying that something cheerful would happen tonight, Rex wouldn't be so submissive in front of Adeline!
Adeline led Rex to the garden outside the villa and flipped on the garden lights, making the whole area as bright as day.
Adeline rolled her eyes and looked at Rex coldly, "Didn't you say you wanted to record a video?"
The streetlights were so dim earlier that even if they recorded a video, Lily wouldn't be able to see anything clearly.
Rex paused, realizing that Adeline had been ignoring him because she wanted to find a well-lit spot.
He sneered inwardly, cursing Adeline for being so particular.
However, with the lights on, he could see Adeline's long legs wrapped in black pants and her sexy, curvy figure hidden under the trench coat more clearly.
Rex gazed at her, his eyes brimming with desire, recalling Molly's promise to him. If he could take Adeline tonight, enduring his current humiliation would be worth it.
Thinking of this, he quickly stuffed the bouquet into Adeline's hands, set up his phone on a stand, and praised her.
"Miss Wilson, you are truly beautiful and kind. I've never met a woman as beautiful and kind as you!"
Noticing Rex's increasingly inappropriate stare, Adeline's discomfort grew, her brows knitting tightly together.
But she had promised Bennett, so she would do it.
"Grandma, rest assured, I have forgiven Rex, and I won't pursue this matter anymore."
She held the bouquet and looked at the phone camera.
"I hope you take good care of yourself and get well soon."
After speaking, she exhaled a long breath and returned the bouquet to Rex. As she handed it over, his hand intentionally or accidentally brushed against the back of her hand.
Adeline felt a chill all over, feeling disgusted by the touch, as if she had touched something dirty.
"If there's nothing else, I'm going back." With that, she promptly turned and made her way up the stairs.
Back in her room, she kept washing the back of her hand that Rex had touched with warm water, but it felt like no matter how much she washed, it wouldn't come clean.
In the end, she could only apply a lot of hand cream and then open the latest international jewelry design exhibition to distract herself.
After Adeline watched the design exhibition, Alice's knock sounded at the door.
"Miss Wilson, dinner is ready."
Adeline frowned, "Have the kitchen send it up."
She had been dining in her room for quite some time. Despite sharing the same house with Jasper and Molly, their paths rarely crossed.
This explained why Molly had recently been increasing the dosage of the drugs. Desperation was setting in.
Alice outside the door was silent for a moment, "Miss Collins said that tonight, both you and Mr. Foster must come down to dine. We have a guest at home today."
Adeline frowned and took out her phone to message Jasper: [Are we expecting a guest? If so, who?]
The message from the other end came back quickly: [Not sure, just come down for dinner. I haven't seen you in a long time.]
These words made Adeline's face inexplicably blush.
She took a deep breath, turned off the jewelry design exhibition video, went to the bathroom to wash her face, tidied her messy hair, changed into loungewear, and then went downstairs.
At the dining table downstairs, three people were sitting.
The malicious Molly, the long-unseen Jasper, and...
