Chapter 296 What Do You Think?
When Adeline got back to the private room, Anne and Robert were glued to their phones.
Robert quickly put his phone away when he saw her come in.
Anne just stared at Adeline, like she had a lot to say but couldn't get it out.
Adeline, lost in thoughts about Aurora, didn't notice their weird behavior. She sat down.
Her phone buzzed with a message from Lucia: [One of the three is badmouthing you.]
Adeline frowned and was about to ask more when a flood of chat messages came in.
She read through them, feeling more and more disappointed.
The four young people in front of her were chatting about work and school, oblivious to her mood.
Adeline took a deep breath, held back her anger, and joined their conversation like nothing was wrong.
When Ava talked about wanting to fit in and be more social, Adeline smirked and asked Timothy, "Do you agree with her?"
Timothy, a bit confused, frowned and said, "Yes and no. I'm a homebody and don't like socializing. I wouldn't join any employee groups."
Adeline raised an eyebrow at Anne and Robert, "What about you two?"
Anne quickly said, "I'm more like Timothy."
Robert calmly added, "I join groups but stay quiet."
"So, you three aren't like Ava," Adeline said, crossing her arms and tossing her phone on the table. "Ava, show any recordings and photos you have."
The room went silent.
Robert's face changed, and he glanced at Ava, too scared to speak.
Anne nervously handed Adeline a glass of water.
Timothy picked up Adeline's phone to check it out.
Ava, looking pale, stammered, "Adeline, what are you talking about? I don't get it."
"Stop pretending!" Timothy snapped, putting the phone down. "Didn't I tell you to keep quiet?"
"And now you're spreading it?"
"Didn't you hear Adeline say she was going to sue Mrs. Carter for defamation?"
"Do you think you're more important than Aurora? She might not sue Mrs. Carter because of Sebastian, but that doesn't mean she won't sue you."
Ava turned ghostly pale.
Ava immediately dropped to her knees. "Adeline, I just saw the group chatting about you and wanted to fit in."
She crawled over and grabbed Adeline's pant leg. "I didn't mean any harm."
Adeline frowned and coldly shook her off.
She was about to say something when Timothy's phone rang.
"It's Mr. Foster," Timothy said, handing the phone to Adeline.
Adeline felt a headache coming on. The rumor must've reached Jasper quickly for him to call this late.
She took a deep breath, picked up the phone, and stepped out. "What do you want?"
"Starting tomorrow, Tim and Tom are out of the Foster Group," Jasper's cold voice said.
Adeline gasped. "Why?"
Tim and Tom had saved her and Lauren at the amusement park. They were good guys from a poor background, grateful for their jobs.
"No reason," Jasper replied. "There are too many rumors about you. I'll find out who's behind it. Focus on the project; leave the rest to me."
Adeline bit her lip. "To you? And what did you just do? Firing them over a rumor? Are you serious?"
Jasper chuckled coldly. "You think I fired them because of you?"
"I'm listening," Adeline said, eyes flashing with anger. "Jasper, this isn't a coincidence. You made this decision right after the rumor spread. How could you be so irrational?"
Before she could finish, Jasper cut her off. "Why are you defending them? Are you..."
Adeline was stunned.
"Answer me seriously," Jasper said coldly. "Do you have an affair with them?"
Adeline gripped her phone tightly, feeling humiliated. But for Tim and Tom's sake, she couldn't stay silent.
She took a deep breath and bit her lip. "Mr. Foster, do you think I had time to sleep with Tim and Tom, either separately or together?"
