Chapter 62 For Example, Revenge
Helen's words were filled with sorrow. "It's such a pity, Adeline is such a good child..."
"Mum," Molly frowned and interrupted, "the waiter is waiting for you to order."
Molly couldn't bear to hear Helen mention Adeline at all.
From childhood, Adeline was always Helen's pride, and she always lived in Adeline's shadow.
So, ever since she could understand, Molly had an inexplicable hostility and hatred towards Adeline.
"Ah, then I'll continue ordering," Molly said, bringing Helen back to reality.
Helen sighed, inquired about Lauren's preferences, and continued ordering.
Occasionally, she would glance at Adeline, "Miss, can you eat spicy food?"
"I can," Adeline replied, lowering her head, her heart trembling as she was unable to stare at her mother too long.
Six years of longing for her mother, now she was right in front of her, yet unable to recognize her; she could only exist under another identity.
Her fists clenched tightly as she endured all the heartache she felt today, knowing it was all thanks to Jasper and Molly!
Once Blake's illness was cured, she would make them taste this bitterness too!
"That's all," Helen finished ordering and started asking Lauren questions as she held her.
The question she asked the most was about Adeline's whereabouts.
Lauren looked at Adeline and cautiously spoke, "Mommy said... she still has important things to do."
"When... when she's done with what she needs to do, she'll come back." After speaking, the little girl raised her big, dark eyes, staring at Helen, "She also said she wants to come back and eat Chocolate Mousse with you."
The middle-aged woman secretly wiped away a tear, "This foolish child..."
"What could be so important that she hasn't come back to see her own mother in six years..." Helen's voice trembled.
"Maybe your daughter has more important matters in her heart," Molly rolled her eyes discreetly, but her expression remained sincere.
She looked at Helen and emphasized, "Perhaps in your daughter's heart, we; her family, aren't all that important."
Helen's face turned pale instantly.
Last night, when she heard Molly say that Adeline was actually alive and had sent the child back, Helen couldn't sleep all night. Trying desperately to understand.
Adeline, had always been such a filial and kind person, what prevented her from coming to her family when something happened and she was still alive?
Even now, after six years, why did she send Lauren and not come back herself?
She used Lauren's return to tell everyone that she was still alive.
But she never showed herself, not even once.
What could be so important that she had to do?
So important that she didn't contact her biological parents for six whole years, didn't have any contact with Denver for six years.
And to send her daughter directly to Jasper's side.
Doesn't she fear that Lauren will be mistreated by Jasper?
Helen thought about it all night, but all that did was raise a number of unanswered questions.
Now, every word from Molly feels like a stab in Helen's wound.
"Mom, you shouldn't get upset," Molly sneered coldly, using Helen's vulnerability. She continued to add fuel to the fire, "Sister has always been like this, right? When we didn't let her marry Jasper, didn't she fight us, her family and insist on doing it her way? If it wasn't for me persuading her, she would've cut ties with the family!"
Helen sighed, a deep sadness in her eyes. "Yes."
"She's always been so stubborn, and our words... to her, they never held any weight. Okay, let's not talk about this anymore."
Helen turned her head and continued to comfort and inquire about Lauren.
Sitting in the corner, Adeline listened to their conversation, her hands clenched even tighter under the table.
No! None of it was true!
She never forgot about her parents, for six years she suffered, missing them and her home!
The thought of severing ties with her parents never occurred to her. Not even when she married Jasper all those years ago!
Back then, she loved and trusted Molly the most. And yet, it was Molly…
It was Molly who told her; "Sis, marry Mr. Foster. Don't worry, I will take care of everything at home."
"Mom and Dad were just threatening to cut ties with you, but they love you so much. You know that! Just do what you want. I will handle them for you."
Why Adeline doubt her own younger sister whom loved and trusted wholeheartedly?
So, she took her ID and went to get registered with Jasper, excitedly dragging her luggage to Denver.
It wasn't until later, when her father appeared in tears at the entrance of Blue Bay, that Adeline found out that not only didn't Molly rectify things in front of their parents, but she also mentioned cutting ties.
She questioned Molly too, but Molly cried and kneeled before her, begging. Telling her that she was too young and mishandled the situation, it was all an unintended consequence.
In her naivety, Adeline believed her, supportively offering her comfort and assurance for a long time.
Until today...
Listening to Molly recounting the past to this "stranger" namely her, Adeline finally understood...
Molly had played a significant role in the conflict between her and their parents in the past!
"Grandma." Held in Helen's arms, Lauren remained silent for a long time before finally speaking up, "Mommy hasn't forgotten about you."
Her little voice was tender, but her tone was firm. "Mommy misses home very much. She secretly saved pictures of grandpa and grandma on the computer and often sneaks treats like Chocolate Mousse as she looks at the pictures.
Molly rolled her eyes. She should have been more ruthless on the Ferris wheel and let this annoying girl die right then and there! "Oh, I see." Molly smirked at Lauren; her eyes carrying a hint of hostility. "So, Lauren, can you tell me exactly how important this matter is that your mommy doesn't even want her own parents?"
"I can't say," Lauren pursed her lips and remained silent for a moment before lifting her head. "But Grandma, I believe that once Mommy finishes what she wants to do and comes back, you'll understand her reasons!"
Seeing the little girl's hopeful expression, Helen didn't know what else to say. She sighed and reached out to ruffle Lauren's hair. "You really remind me of your mom when she was a child. So considerate."
Molly squinted, her eyes seething with venom. It had been so many years! Adeline had been gone for so long, and whenever Mom mentioned her, it was always with a smile and pride! And what about her? Mom always thought she was inferior to Adeline, treating her like a child, scolding her often, and constantly comparing her to Adeline!
Last night, she had finally convinced her mother to harbor resentment against Adeline again. And now, with this brat here, her mother's resolve wavered!
Molly clenched her teeth, her eyes coldly scanning Lauren. "I still don't understand what could be so important that you don't want your own parents!"
"These kinds of things do exist," Adeline's indifferent voice sounded from the side just as Molly said that.
Molly frowned and turned towards Adeline as she elegantly raised her teacup saying; "For example, revenge." and took a sip.
