Chapter 71 Cancellation of the Engagement
The people present also began to wonder.
Why wasn't Jasper, the male lead, here? Instead, Molly and Grandma Foster made the announcement.
"Because Jasper is not here."
Leaning against the sofa, Brandon calmly watched the stage, his lips slightly curved. "A few minutes ago, Jasper received a phone call. His father is at the airport, demanding that he go and pick someone up."
Adeline furrowed her brows in response, "Jasper's father is here?"
She had been married to Jasper for many years, but had never seen his father, never mind meeting him.
It was said that Jasper's mother died in childbirth, and his father sank into depression, drowning himself in alcohol every day and refusing to even look at Jasper.
In his eyes, Jasper was a harbinger of disaster. If it weren't for Jasper, his wife wouldn't have died.
So, he never took part in raising or educating Jasper.
Jasper also rarely mentioned his father.
Adeline had once tactfully inquired about Jasper's father from the servants in their old mansion.
The servants said he hadn't returned to Denver in many years.
Because he found a diary of Jasper's mother who had wanted to travel the world, he took her ashes and went on a world tour.
"Probably for his mother's 80th birthday."
Brandon shrugged, "But this is quite a good show."
"Jasper went to pick someone up, so he'll be back in at least half an hour. These two took the opportunity while he's away to announce the wedding news. Once Jasper returns, everything will be set in stone. They've played their cards well."
Adeline pressed her lips together.
Suddenly, she stood up.
Frowning, Brandon asked, "What are you going to do?"
"Take Lauren away."
She had seriously overestimated Jasper. Since he couldn't even avoid Molly's obvious schemes, what made him confident that he could protect Lauren?
Molly's malice towards Lauren was written all over her face!
If Jasper didn't have the ability to protect Lauren, Adeline had to take her away before he revealed her identity!
"Adeline!" Brandon frowned and grabbed her, "Under what authority are you taking her away?"
"With Jasper's people all over this venue, you won't be able to successfully escape with Lauren. If you get caught later, how will you explain it? Tell Jasper that you are actually..."
Before Brandon could finish his words, the door to the venue was suddenly opened.
Everyone turned their heads towards the sound.
A man in a dark blue suit walked in through the venue's entrance, carrying a little girl in a French-style dress.
The person was none other than Jasper, who was supposed to have gone to the airport.
On the stage, Molly panicked and instinctively glanced at Grandma Foster. She lowered her voice, "Wasn't he supposed to pick up his uncle?"
Grandma Foster was also confused and bewildered by Jasper's sudden re-appearance, "I clearly sent him away..."
For the sake of obtaining Molly's jewelry, Grandma Foster and Molly had come up with a plan for tonight:
First, they would have Jasper's father's private jet land after the banquet started, and then they would have him call Jasper to pick someone up.
Although Jasper didn't have much affection for his father, he was still a filial person and would diligently go to pick him up.
Once Jasper left, they would announce their engagement news.
By the time he returned, everything would be set in stone, and he wouldn't go back on his word at Grandma's birthday banquet.

"Grandma, surprised?" The man carried Lauren and continued walking towards the stage confidently.
Everyone stared at Jasper's tall and upright figure and the little girl in his arms.
The little girl appeared to be around five or six years old, petite and beautiful.
Especially her face, it was simply a replica of Jasper's tender features!
Some people started covering their mouths in astonishment.
So, Jasper's face could turn into such a beautiful girl!
There was no doubt that the little girl in his arms was his daughter.
Now the question arose: Jasper's ex-wife passed away six years ago, and he has been engaged to Molly for five years.

Amidst the constant speculation from the audience, Jasper walked up to the stage with Lauren in his arms, creating a stir.
His eyes widened in surprise, and he curled his lips faintly. "Grandma always asked me to pick up my father. I knew that something must be hidden from me."
However, he didn't expect Molly to be so bold!
She actually had the audacity to announce such a thing in his absence!
Was she so confident that he couldn't do anything to the old lady?
Molly's face turned pale.
She bit her lip and couldn't find words to speak for a moment.
Grandma Foster frowned and walked over to protect Molly behind her. "It was my idea."
"You didn't go to pick up your father?"
"Him?" Jasper smirked with icy cold eyes. "Just a stranger. Why should I go in person? Sending Ryan over was already giving him face."
This father of his hadn't given him anything besides life.
Grandma Foster's face turned white with anger. "You..."
"Everyone," Jasper stepped past her and walked briskly to the emcee, picking up the microphone in the emcee's hand. "I do have something important to announce today. But it's not news about my marriage."
The whole room erupted into an uproar.
"I want to announce that I have found my daughter."
The man smiled and looked at everyone in the hall. "Let me introduce to you all, my daughter, Lauren."
This girl is really Jasper's daughter!?
The hall was once again abuzz.
Almost everyone was whispering in lowered voices.
Finally, a daring man asked, "Mr. Foster, may I ask, who is the mother of this child?"
"It's Adeline." In front of everyone, the man openly admitted, "My wife, Adeline. In that car accident back then, her body was never found. I had people searching the sea for a long time, but we never found her. I always believed she didn't die, and it turns out she really didn't."
"Not only did she not die, but she also gave birth to this adorable daughter for me."
The hall exploded like a frying pan.
Jasper's wife from six years ago didn't die.
