Chapter 244 We Won't Let You Off

Violet's words made the other two in the ward pause.

Adeline frowned, but before she could speak, Jasper sneered again.

"Why should I feed her?"

Violet rolled her eyes. "Do you not remember what you did?"

"You..."

"Violet."

Before Violet could finish her sentence, Adeline interrupted her.

Leaning against the headboard, Adeline, with a pale face, smiled at Violet. "Didn't you come straight to see me after your trip without even going home?"

"I'm fine now. You should go home first."

Violet pouted, knowing that Adeline didn't want her to mention the dirty deeds Jasper had done.

Sighing, Violet helplessly glanced at Adeline. "Take care of yourself then."

After saying that, Violet gave Jasper a fierce glare before turning to leave.

With a loud sound, the door was closed.

Only Jasper and Adeline were left in the ward.

Adeline sighed, picked up the soup that Violet had placed on the bedside table, and quietly started eating.

After such a messy business, she was indeed hungry.

Jasper didn't say a word, just sat indifferently on a chair beside her.

Jasper's deep eyes were fixed on her as she drank the soup.

She held the bowl in one hand and the spoon in the other, gently blowing on it before slowly sipping the soup.

Adeline's manner of sipping her soup bore a resemblance to the Adeline of yesteryears.

Perhaps kind and gentle women had common traits?

Because she was really hungry, Adeline ate quickly.

In no time, the bowl of porridge was empty.

Adeline placed the empty bowl on the bedside table and looked up at Jasper with a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. "You, who are always so busy with work, how do you have time to visit me in the hospital?"

"Are you here to ask me to go back for a meeting?"

Jasper gave her a deep look and chuckled. "What if I said yes?"

"I wouldn't go."

Adeline yawned. "Violet was right. Nothing is more important than health."

"I shouldn't have skipped eating and drinking all morning just to prove my work ability to you."

Jasper squinted his eyes. "So you're admitting you were being petty with me?"

Jasper elegantly crossed his legs, his deep eyes looking down at Adeline's face. "I hope that no matter what, you never joke about your health."

Adeline laughed. "That doesn't sound like something a boss would say to an employee."

Jasper's eyes paused.

After a while, Jasper's deep voice echoed, "In your eyes, is our relationship just that of an employee and boss?"

Jasper's gaze and slightly teasing tone made Adeline's heart skip a beat.

She had to admit that even after all these years, Jasper could still make her heart race at times.

Perhaps liking him was a bad habit she could never break.

But the Adeline of the past was irrational, and now she saw through this hypocritical man.

So Adeline curled her lips into a smile. "Then what do you think our relationship is?"

The ward fell silent again.

Finally, Jasper sighed. "I thought, at the very least, we could be considered friends."

Hearing this, Adeline laughed.

She really wanted to tell him that she didn't make friends with douchebags.

But in the end, Adeline held back this impulse.

"To be considered your friend is an honor."

After saying that, Adeline took a deep breath and turned her face away to end the topic.

"I remember, back in Las Vegas, you mentioned that you suspected the deceased Evelyn was just a puppet."

Jasper nodded lightly. "I did say that."

He had indeed sent people to gather evidence.

However, the Quinn family wasn't idle; if they dared to do such a thing, they would certainly cover it up well.

So far, Jasper's people hadn't found any valuable clues.

Adeline took a deep breath and gave him a steady look. "I believe you now."

"Really?"

Jasper raised an eyebrow. "Why bring this up suddenly?"

Adeline squinted her eyes, just about to say something, when the ward door was knocked on.

Outside, Stella's fake, sweet voice sounded.

"Adeline, are you in there?"

"I heard you fainted; I was so worried about you that I came all the way from Blue Bay to see you."

"I even made some soup for you. Can I come in?"

Stella's voice made the veins on Adeline's forehead throb.

Instinctively, she glanced at Jasper.

Jasper stood up expressionlessly and opened the ward door.

"Jasper?"

As the door opened, Stella looked surprised at Jasper at the door. "You're here to see Adeline because you're worried, too?"

"Jasper, you're really good to your employees!"

"Haha, he just cares about this bitch!"

As the exaggerated voice fell, a middle-aged woman's disgusted voice followed.

Adeline knew this voice all too well.

It was her biological mother, Helen's voice.

"Jasper, don't blame me for being blunt, but as a big boss, you should be at work now."

"Adeline is just a lowly employee at your company. No matter how good you are to your employees, you shouldn't personally visit her in the hospital."

This voice belonged to Daniel Collins, her biological father.

Leaning against the headboard, Adeline silently closed her eyes.

Stella had intentionally brought her biological parents over.

She was sure Stella did it on purpose.

Stella visited her on purpose while Jasper was in the ward.

On purpose, bringing Helen and Daniel.

The purpose was probably to embarrass her in front of her closest relatives.

Thinking of this, she sighed and closed her eyes.

At the door, Jasper glanced indifferently at Helen and Daniel. "Why are you both here?"

Helen rolled her eyes. "What? Don't you want us to see you behind closed doors with this bitch?"

Saying this, Helen gave a fierce glare at Adeline on the bed. "If we hadn't come, we wouldn't have seen how much you value this bitch!"

"Jasper, don't forget that Stella has done so much for you!"

"She even gave birth to your children!"

"If you dare to do anything to betray her, we won't let you off!"

Helen's arrogant demeanor made Jasper couldn't help but curl his lips into a smile. "So you both knew I was here and came prepared, right?"

After saying that, he gave Stella a light glance. "You brought your parents over, not just to visit Adeline, right?"
