Chapter 214 She Overestimated Herself After All
Adeline was too lazy to continue the nonsense with Stella.
She glanced at the woman in front of her who was clearly provoking. "In that case, Ms. Foster should be the one to watch out. Otherwise..."
Adeline smirked, slowly leaning towards Stella's ear. "Otherwise, if Mr. Foster is taken away by another woman, all the lies you've been telling from the beginning until now... would all be in vain."
After saying that, Adeline turned around and left, leaving Stella with a look of anger and shock.
Standing in place, Stella stared fiercely at Adeline's back, her hands clenched into fists.
This woman, Adeline, was becoming more and more arrogant!
Coming down from upstairs, Adeline wrapped herself in a coat and sat on the sofa in the hotel lobby, waiting for Sebastian.
Feeling a bit tired, she leaned back on the sofa to rest.
"Where did Lyndon go today?"
"I don't know. Whenever we ask for him, the assistant responds, but we can't take the assistant's words as Lyndon's... It's so annoying!"
"But the boss used to come to the hotel for a round of inspection every day at noon. It's already this time today and he hasn't come... Could something have happened?"
The voices of the hotel staff buzzed in her ears.
Adeline couldn't help but furrow her brows.
Lyndon was missing?
Adeline's instinct told her that Lyndon not showing up at the hotel today and Linda's change in attitude toward her were probably related.
Opening her eyes, she strode over to intervene in the gossip between the two employees. After a few inquiries, Adeline became almost certain that something had happened to Lyndon.
A middle-aged man with a regular routine suddenly changing his travel plans, and even his assistant unable to find him.
Either he fell ill, or he encountered some unforeseen circumstances.
Taking a deep breath, she found a corner in the sofa area and sat down, then pressed the switch on the necklace around her neck.
"Mommy," Blake's slightly deep voice came from the necklace that Adeline was wearing. "I already know what's going on your end. Based on the clues I found in the surveillance online..."
After speaking, the little one on the other end of the necklace sighed. "Your friend said those things because her father is locked in the prison in the backyard of the Evelyn family."
Listening to the little one's words, Adeline couldn't help but smile. "How did you know what I wanted to ask?"
"Because I care about you!" On the phone, Blake sighed again. "To avoid Jasper's pursuit last time, I took the liberty of cutting off your contact with Bennett Lauren and replaced it with a recording.
"If they can't reach you, I will investigate everything about you more seriously and take care of you for them!"
Adeline felt touched. She tightly held the necklace in her hand and said, "Thank you for caring so much about mommy. Your information is very useful to me."
Compared to Adeline's sensibility, Blake on the other end of the necklace was more rational. "So mommy, what are you going to do now? Your friend has her reasons, but if she wrongly accuses you, we should come up with a plan."
Adeline rubbed her forehead and asked, "Don't you think we should have a second plan?"
Blake fell silent for a moment before saying, "Mommy, are you thinking of directly rescuing Linda's father? I advise you to dismiss this idea.
"The prison of the Evelyn's family is not something anyone can easily open, and even if you have the ability to open it, you have to be able to overcome the guards at the entrance first.
"The only people you can mobilize now are Tim and Tom. Although these two are loyal, they probably can't beat the guards of the Evelyn's family."
Adeline sighed. Her Blake was terrifyingly calm in some matters.
She fell silent for a moment before saying, "Leave this matter to mommy. I should have a way to save him."
After saying that, Adeline wanted to say more, but Sebastian's figure had already appeared at the main entrance.
She quickly said goodbye to Blake and went up to greet him.
Sebastian bought a lot of fruits. The two returned to the room, and he washed the fruits and placed them in front of Adeline before asking, "What's the plan? Just now on the phone, Zavier was very firm. He said they are also acting for their own survival.
"The press conference tomorrow won't be canceled, and Linda will proceed with revealing your situation as planned."
Adeline glanced at Sebastian and smiled. "Are you also going to tell me to prepare an explanation for the aftermath?"
Sebastian paused and nodded. "But I don't want to."
The woman smirked, hugged her knees, and stared into the distance. "Sebastian, can you do me a favor?"
The following day, Linda's press conference unfolded as planned in a small auditorium near Silverlake Heights High School. Despite its size, the venue was packed with attendees. Reporters grumbled about the limited space as they diligently filmed Linda on stage.
Adeline seamlessly merged into the throng of reporters, clutching the press pass Sebastian had secured for her the day before. Spotting an unoccupied corner, she made her way there and took a seat.
In her left ear, she wore a small invisible earpiece.
In the earpiece was Sebastian's voice, "We have arrived at the Evelyn's family. Don't worry, with the help of these local gangs, we should be fine."
Adeline lowered her voice and replied, "Stay safe."
"Rest assured!" came Sebastian's reassuring response over the earpiece before it fell silent.
After receiving Sebastian's affirmative reply, Adeline took a deep breath. Just as she was about to look up at the stage, she heard a woman's indifferent voice in her ear.
"I didn't expect you to come here in person." Stella, who was disguised just like Adeline, sat down next to her. "If you get recognized later after the press conference, there won't be Jasper to help you this time."
Adeline glanced lightly at Stella. Behind her, she only saw a security guard from the Foster Group.
Not only did she not see Jasper, she didn't even see Ryan.
A slight heaviness settled in the woman's heart.
Yesterday, Jasper's confident demeanor as if he would make Linda speechless seemed to be playing in front of her eyes. Yet today, Linda did show up, but he was nowhere to be seen.
Indeed, Jasper was the most unreliable man in the world.
Adeline sat for a while longer and glanced at her phone.
The time Linda's press conference was scheduled for was 9 am and it was already 8:40 am.
She and Sebastian had planned that if everything went smoothly, they would be able to rescue Lyndon before Linda spoke.
If Lyndon came out, Linda wouldn't need to bring up these topics here.
Time passed minute by minute.
With only two minutes left until 9 am, Sebastian's voice finally came through the earpiece.
"Adeline..." Sebastian's voice was low, devoid of emotion. "The dungeon is empty. Lyndon is not here."
The man's words caused Adeline's vision to darken in an instant.
At that moment, a "ding" sound rang out in the venue. Linda took a deep breath, raised her eyes, and picked up the microphone. "Hello, everyone, I'm Linda. Today, I want to talk to you all about this woman named Adeline..."
Sitting in the audience, Adeline helplessly closed her eyes. She had indeed overestimated herself and underestimated the people of Evelyn's family.
