Chapter 431 Daddy is Here to See You

Blake's surgery kicked off at 10 a.m. and dragged on till 5 p.m.

During that whole stretch, Adeline didn't catch a glimpse of Jasper.

Lucia and Mia had already bailed, leaving just Violet hanging with Adeline outside the OR.

"It's already this late, and Jasper's still MIA?" Violet checked the time and started cussing under her breath.

Adeline forced a weak smile. "Ms. Jones had surgery today too."

She thought, 'Maybe he's swamped and can't get away.'

Violet's eyes went wide. "I'm gonna find out what's up!"

Ignoring Adeline's attempts to stop her, Violet stormed off to Luna's room.

Adeline thought Violet was being a bit rash but was also dying to know what was up with Luna.

She sighed and plopped down on the bench, every second feeling like an eternity.

She even wondered if Jasper would remember Blake's surgery after Violet confronted him.

'Will he come to check on Blake?' she thought.

Maybe he'd catch Blake coming out of surgery, and she could tell Blake that Jasper had been waiting for him. She didn't want Blake to be too bummed out.

But still, no sign of Jasper.

Twenty minutes later, Violet came back fuming. "I went to Luna's room, and they were all cozy! Can you believe it? Jasper was actually putting Luna to sleep! I even heard Luna talking about wanting a baby with him, and he was all worried about her health!"

Violet got more pissed as she went on, "Blake's still in surgery! Doesn't he give a damn?"

Adeline gave another bitter smile. She'd expected too much. Jasper wasn't worth it.

She was about to say something when the OR door swung open.

Adeline and Violet rushed over. "Doc, how's it looking?"

The doctor smiled and repeated what he'd told Jasper half an hour ago. "The surgery went great! Blake's showing no signs of rejecting the new bone marrow, and his body's doing just fine! We even kept an eye on him for half an hour to make sure everything was cool before coming out!"

The doc's words made Violet scream with joy.

She hugged Lauren, who was next to her. "Did you hear that? Blake's getting better! He's getting better!"

Adeline was over the moon too and grabbed the doc's hand. "Thank you!"

The doctor smiled and patted her hand. "You shouldn't thank me."

He was about to mention Jasper but remembered Jasper's earlier instructions and quickly changed the subject, "Give yourself some credit for all the effort you've put into Blake's recovery. Take good care of him in the coming days."

With that, the doc hurried off, probably worried he'd spill too much if he stuck around.

The assistant doc then wheeled Blake out of the OR.

Blake was lying on the bed, still pale but looking a bit healthier.

Adeline and Violet excitedly wheeled Blake back to his room.

Not long after, the anesthesia wore off, and Blake opened his eyes. "Water."

Adeline quickly handed him the glass of water she'd prepared.

To her surprise, Blake downed the whole glass in one go.

"More," he said.

"I'll get it for you!" Adeline said, rushing out with the cup.

When she came back with more water, she saw Jasper, the guy she'd been waiting for all day, finally show up at the door.

Inside the room, Blake, Lauren, and Violet were cracking up, having a good time.

Jasper stood at the door, just out of sight, quietly watching them.

If this had been before Blake's surgery, Adeline might've been touched, thinking Jasper still cared.

But now, it was already evening. Blake's surgery was done and dusted.

Adeline thought, 'When Violet saw Jasper earlier, he was putting Luna to sleep. He must've come over only after tucking her in, right?'

Thinking about it, Adeline felt a bitter irony. Why had she been so devoted to Jasper back then?

At that moment, Jasper turned and saw Adeline standing there with the water cup.

Their eyes met, and Jasper looked a bit flustered.

"Mr. Foster, leaving so soon after just a peek?" Adeline said, her smile gentle but sharp. "Aren't you gonna stay a bit longer? Blake's been waiting for you all day."

Jasper narrowed his eyes slightly. "I've been busy today."

He'd been tied up with Luna's surgery since early morning. Luna's surgery was shorter than Blake's but just as risky. With no other family around, he had to juggle monitoring Blake's surgery through the OR's surveillance while taking care of Luna.

After her surgery, Luna wouldn't let him leave, constantly complaining about different pains..

Jasper knew she wasn't really in pain; she just didn't want him to leave her to check on Blake. He put up with it and did as she asked. After all, Luna had donated her bone marrow to Blake for free. He owed her big time, especially since it concerned his son's life.

So no matter what Luna asked, he did it without a fuss.

But even so, he hadn't forgotten about Blake's surgery for a second all day.

It wasn't until Blake's surgery was a complete success that he finally relaxed, put Luna to sleep, and had time to come see Blake.

Adeline had no clue what he'd been through today.

She only knew that while Luna also had surgery, it wasn't as life-threatening as Blake's.

But he had spent the whole day with Luna.

Adeline gave a cold smile. "You have indeed been very busy today. Ms. Jones's surgery has kept you so occupied that you had no time for us. If you're so busy, maybe you shouldn't come anymore."

She raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Foster, didn't you tell me yesterday that useless old files should be thrown away? Have you forgotten? Since you've decided to throw it away, don't be so hypocritical."

Adeline's words made Jasper narrow his eyes.

He looked at her, about to say something when the door to the room opened from the inside.

It was Lauren who opened the door.

She looked at Jasper and Adeline with wide eyes. "Mommy, Daddy?"

Lauren's eyes lit up with joy and excitement. "Daddy, are you here to see Blake?"

Lauren turned and shouted into the room, "Blake, Daddy's here to see you!"

With that, she grabbed Jasper's sleeve with her small hand. "Daddy, come in!"

Jasper frowned and glanced at Adeline before stepping into the room, led by Lauren.

Adeline stood there, feeling the longing in Blake and Lauren's eyes as they looked at Jasper, and her heart ached.

Blake and Lauren were always so understanding, always saying they didn't care in front of her.

But their eyes couldn't lie. What kid wouldn't want both their parents by their side, loving them?

She sniffed, holding back her tears, and stepped into the room.
