Chapter 813 You Say You Haven't Been Here, So You Haven't?
The doctor spent nearly an hour treating Zara.
Once Zara's back was fully taken care of, Brandon and Daisy finally arrived with another doctor in tow.
Both Brandon and Daisy's clothes were somewhat disheveled, and a large hickey was clearly visible on Brandon's neck.
As they entered, Oliver glanced at his watch with a cold smile. "Over an hour."
"It only takes about half an hour to drive from the Torres Mansion to here, yet you two took over an hour..."
Brandon spoke coldly, his eyes sweeping over the two who had just entered, a hint of frost on his lips. "Could it be that after receiving my call, you two were still leisurely doing things you shouldn't have been doing at home?"
Daisy's face turned slightly pale at having their previous activities called out so directly.
Brandon, however, smiled faintly and gently held Daisy, saying, "Daisy told me that when you called about something happening to Mom, I realized Dennis has been missing for a while, and you probably didn't have a doctor on hand."
He smiled and pulled the elderly doctor standing behind them forward. "Daisy and I specifically went to find the best doctor in the city, Terry Sanchez, who specializes in treating comatose conditions."
Sweating profusely, Terry quickly nodded in agreement. "Yes... Mr. Torres brought Ms. Phoebe to my house, explained the treatment needed, and persuaded me to come... It did take quite some time."
In reality, Terry had received Brandon's call an hour earlier and had driven to the Torres Mansion, waiting outside until the two were done before coming along. But being an experienced man, Terry knew to play his part well since he had taken Brandon's money.
After Terry finished speaking, Oliver snorted and pointed to a chair, "No need to trouble Mr. Sanchez."
"In the hour it took you, the doctor I found has already taken care of everything."
"You should sit down."
The elderly Terry nodded and carefully went to sit in the chair Oliver had indicated.
The room fell silent.
Brandon sighed deeply, looking at Oliver and Adeline. "Calling us over so late, what happened to Mom?"
"What happened?"
Oliver snorted, his gaze like daggers as he stared at Daisy in Brandon's arms. "You should ask the woman in your arms what happened!"
He walked over to Zara's bed, revealing her back, now red and raw after being treated. "Look at this!"
Brandon's eyes flashed with shock, horror, and anger as he glanced at Zara's back.
He turned and coldly looked at Adeline. "Adeline, Mom has been here under your care. How could you let her back get like this?"
"How have you been taking care of her?"
He pretended not to know about the ointment, starting to angrily accuse Adeline.
Adeline narrowed her eyes, coldly staring at Brandon, "Do you really think I would let my mom's back get like this?"
In the past, if Brandon had questioned her like this, Adeline would have thought he was just unaware of the situation and was asking out of anger. She would have understood and forgiven his attitude.
But now... ever since she heard Brandon admit at the hospital that he was the one who disfigured her, she couldn't help but feel that he was wearing a mask.
Untrustworthy, insincere, making it hard to tell what was real and what was fake.
Just like now.
Brandon had often said he knew what kind of person she was.
Anyone in the world might do something unfilial, but not her, Adeline.
He trusted her.
But now, he was accusing her because of Zara's back.
Didn't he say he trusted her the most?
Was his trust so cheap?
Her words made Brandon pause slightly.
He had intended to confuse Oliver, making him think he had no idea about Zara's back.
But he had overdone it.
After all, he had never treated Adeline so coldly before.
"Mom's back has nothing to do with Adeline."
Seeing the tension between Adeline and Brandon, Oliver frowned and interrupted their silence:
"The doctor just confirmed that Mom was sabotaged."
"Someone applied a special ointment to her back that accelerates decay."
"That's why her back became so terrible in less than a day."
He then looked up, his bloodshot eyes fixed on Daisy's face. "Adeline's people wouldn't harm Mom."
"After investigating, we found that the only person who visited Mom today was Daisy."
Brandon's voice was icy and devoid of emotion. "Daisy, how do you explain this?"
Oliver's words made Daisy's face turn red.
She glared at Oliver in fury. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Patty is almost a month old, and I brought her to see Mom today."
"How can you accuse me like this!"
Adeline narrowed her eyes. "But no one else visited Mom today except you."
After Daisy left, Adeline had gone out to pray with Linda.
No one else had entered Zara's room except the servants.
"I did visit Mom, but that doesn't mean I would harm her!"
Daisy bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes. "Just because I was in Mom's room doesn't mean I applied the ointment."
"Couldn't it have been someone else?"
Oliver laughed coldly.
After so many years, he was immune to Daisy's tears.
Seeing her cry didn't make him feel sorry; it made him want to laugh.
Brandon cleared his throat. "Then tell us, if not you, who else?"
"Her," Daisy pointed directly at Adeline. "What if Adeline saw me visiting Mom today and secretly applied the ointment after I left to frame me?"
Adeline laughed at her logic, "Unfortunately, I haven't been in Mom's room at all today, except just now."
"You say you haven't been there, so you haven't?"
Daisy turned to look at Brandon.
Seeing him nod slightly, she continued with a cold smile:
"Adeline, words alone aren't proof."
"Do you dare to pull up today's surveillance footage?"
Adeline narrowed her eyes. "Why wouldn't I?"
Seeing Adeline agree, a sly look flashed in Brandon's eyes.
