Chapter 539 To Prevent Further Corruption

Jasper's words hung heavy in the air, making the living room feel like a pressure cooker.

Blake, clutching his laptop, looked up at Jasper with wide, innocent eyes. "Mr. Foster, I have no idea what you're talking about."

Jasper squinted, a cold glint in his eyes.

Most six-year-olds might not get it, but his kids were different.

Jasper took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool. "Blake, I'm asking you again—did you do something to Evelyn? All the evidence points to you. Just tell me the truth!"

Blake squinted back at Jasper's chiseled face, finally dropping the innocent act. He crossed his arms and leaned back on the sofa, sounding way older than six. "Mr. Foster, you know exactly why I did it. Our mom was fine, but because of Dr. Smith's diagnosis, she got sent to a mental hospital. I just wanted him to feel what it's like to lose someone important. Is that so wrong?"

Blake's attitude made Jasper see red. "Your mom is sick! It's not the same!"

Blake shot back, "He says she's sick, so she's sick? I say he misdiagnosed."

"Blake!" Jasper stared him down.

Jasper looked at the mini version of himself, enunciating each word, "Kidnapping is illegal. You're only six. How could you do something like this?"

Blake met Jasper's furious gaze, his eyes full of stubborn defiance. "Mr. Foster, you've known my mom longer than we have. You should trust her more than we do! Just because of Dr. Smith's diagnosis, you believed she was sick and needed to be sent to that awful place. I'm only six, but if you hadn't pushed us to the edge, I wouldn't have done this."

"Jasper." Just as Jasper was about to blow his top, Luna walked in.

Luna calmed him down, making him sit on the sofa. "Don't be so angry. Blake's just a kid. He messed up, but he's still a good kid at heart."

She poured coffee and handed it to Jasper. "Blake was raised by Adeline before. Maybe she put some bad ideas in his head. It's okay. From now on, the kids will be with us, and they'll get better."

Luna kept soothing Jasper, "Take it easy."

Her words made Blake frown.

What did Luna mean? Was she saying Adeline led them astray?

Blake clenched his fists, glaring at Luna. Meanwhile, Lauren, who was coming downstairs, frowned.

Lauren quickly ran down and stood in front of Luna, glaring at her. "What did you say? Our mom is the best person in the world! She didn't lead us astray!"

Even though Blake always told her to stay calm, Lauren couldn't keep it together anymore after hearing that!

From childhood till now, their mom had always protected them, but now they couldn't protect her. They even let her get sent to a mental hospital to suffer!

Thinking about the medical record Blake got from the hospital system in Neon City today, Lauren bit her lip, burning with anger. Their mom got a finger cut off today! And these two people in front of her, one called her mom sick, and the other sent her to the mental hospital! They were fine; their fingers were fine!

Facing the furious Blake and Lauren, Luna bit her lip, her eyes turning red. "Blake, Lauren. I didn't mean that."

Luna's eyes flashed, and she quickly poured a cup of coffee for Blake and handed it over. "Don't be angry. I misspoke. I shouldn't have said the truth directly; I should have been more tactful."

Luna handed the coffee cup to Lauren.

Lauren snapped, "I don't want it!"

She angrily knocked over the coffee cup Luna handed over. "Hypocrite!"

The hot coffee spilled all over Luna, staining her white cotton dress.

Luna exaggeratedly screamed and quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe it off.

Lauren gave her a cold look and sneered. "Great acting."

When Lauren knocked over the coffee cup, it also touched her; it wasn't that hot at all.

After saying that, Lauren grabbed Blake's arm. "Blake, let's go!"

Jasper, sitting on the sofa, looked at Blake and Lauren about to leave, then he looked at Luna, who was frantically wiping her scalded skin.

"Stop!" Jasper's voice was icy cold. "Lauren, apologize to Luna!"

Regardless, Lauren's behavior towards Luna, who offered her coffee, was utterly rude and ill-mannered.

Lauren bit her lip and gave Jasper a cold look. "Daddy never taught Lauren what manners and upbringing are, so Lauren won't apologize. If you want an apology, Daddy, you do it yourself!"

After saying that, Lauren wiped her tears and pulled Blake upstairs.

Jasper frowned in anger.

"Forget it, Jasper." Luna deliberately showed the scalded side of her arm to Jasper. She pretended to be in pain while wiping and sighing. "The kids are still young. If we take good care of them and educate them in the future, they'll definitely change these bad habits."

After saying that, she couldn't help but sigh. "I originally thought Adeline valued the kids so much that she would educate them well. But now it seems..."

Luna shook her head helplessly. "At six years old, they already know how to lie and deceive, and they even kidnap an elderly person."

She said this while looking up cautiously at Jasper's face. "Jasper, do you think it's because Adeline has a mental illness that she secretly instilled a lot of bad ideas in the kids?"

Jasper remained silent, his face stern.

But from his eyes, Luna could tell he was somewhat shaken.

Luna took a deep breath. "Jasper, you shouldn't take the kids to see Adeline anymore to prevent them from learning more bad things. Don't you think so?"
