Chapter 29 Dad Has Been Dead for a Long Time

After hanging up Violet's call, Adeline quickly opened Facebook.

Just as expected. The top trending topic on Facebook was "Molly's livestream crying."

She opened the trending post and it was Molly's livestream.

At this moment, she was sitting on a chair crying, pretending to be wronged as she explained, "Please don't believe those rumors! Jasper and I are deeply in love. I choose to believe in him."

"The reality is definitely not what you've seen. Please refrain from spreading rumors. Jasper must have his reasons. He would never cheat or betray me."

Watching Molly's fake tears, Adeline couldn't help but shudder from deep within.

This woman truly lived up to her reputation as an actress, with exceptional acting skills.

Jasper isn't the type to cheat or betray?

Then why did he get together with Molly in the first place?

"Mommy, what are you looking at?" Lauren came out in her final outfit change, seeing Adeline coldly smiling at her phone.

Curiosity brought her closer for a look.

Adeline swiftly locked her phone, "It's nothing."

Afterwards, she calmly glanced at Lauren's yellow shirt and cartoon overalls, "Cute."

A woman's words instantly diverted Lauren's attention.

She turned to look at herself in the mirror, nodding excitedly, "Indeed, very cute!"

"Daddy has good taste!"

Adeline faintly curled her lips, watching her daughter's joyful expression. She couldn't bring herself to tell her that she had actually picked out these clothes.

When the mother and daughter came out of the dressing room, Adeline caught a glimpse of the two sets of clothes Jasper had bought for her.

A tinge of bitterness surged in her heart.

She had loved Jasper wholeheartedly for three years without any complaints.

But in those three years, he had never truly cared for her, never even bought her clothes.

Now she was just a nanny taking care of Lauren, yet in his hands she was receiving things she never dared to expect before.

So it turned out Jasper wasn't incapable of tenderness, nor was he incapable of treating a woman well. He just couldn't do it for her.

Adeline composed herself and settled Lauren before heading downstairs to the kitchen.

On her way down, she received a message from Violet, "Adeline, have you figured out what to do? People like us, ordinary people, are easily targeted by online harassment!"

Adeline calmly replied, "I have my own way of dealing with it, don't worry."

After replying, she put her phone in her pocket, put on an apron, and enthusiastically glanced at Jasper, who was sitting on the sofa reading documents, "Mr. Foster, shall we begin?"

Jasper furrowed his brows, then got up and joined Adeline, wearing an apron.

The kitchen wasn't spacious to begin with, and now Jasper, tall and poised, stood beside her.

His body was lying horizontally behind Adeline, like a small mountain. Adeline chuckled lightly and patiently began teaching Jasper how to cook.

The man frowned as he stared at the side of her face, and unconsciously, Adeline's face appeared before his eyes. Previously, he only knew that Adeline was beautiful, but he had never realized how similar her face shape was to Adeline's.

Was there actually some kind of connection between them?

He became lost in staring at her profile.

"Mr. Foster?" Adeline's gaze turned cold as she noticed him staring blankly at her. In the past, he had never looked at Adeline with that kind of expression. He used to be indifferent and didn't even bother to spare her a glance. But now, he was blatantly fixated on Adeline.

The man snapped out of his daze and cleared his throat, "What's wrong?"

"It's time for the next step," she gently smiled and handed him a bowl.

"Beat the eggs."

The man pursed his lips lightly and took the eggs she handed to him. When he reached out to take them, his fingertips brushed against the back of her hand. The woman quickly pulled her hand back.

"Mr. Foster, I'll just leave things on the kitchen counter, you can take them yourself."

She smiled sheepishly, "You do have a fiancée, I shouldn't have too much physical contact with you."

Jasper scowled at her. What was wrong with this woman today?

Speak of physical contact, hadn't they already had plenty of it?

Despite his perplexed gaze, Adeline continued to smile faintly and guide him through the following steps, intentionally keeping her distance.

An hour later, Lauren came downstairs with excitement.

"Wow, Dad made me food! I want to have more bowls!"

The innocent smile on the little girl's face uplifted Jasper's mood. While serving Lauren, he also scooped some food for Adeline.

"Try it."

Adeline awkwardly smiled and put the food he offered into Lauren's bowl, then took a bite herself, "Delicious."

Not only did the woman's actions make Jasper uncomfortable, but Lauren also vaguely sensed that something was off today. The atmosphere at the dinner table instantly turned eerie.

Soon, lunch was over. Lauren insisted on having Adeline accompany her for a nap, and Jasper headed to the office.

As soon as he got off the elevator, his secretary stopped him. "Madam Foster and Miss Collins have arrived... They're waiting for you in your office, and both of them seem upset, probably because of the online incident today."

Jasper furrowed his brows. "Online incident?"

The secretary nodded, "Yes, sir."

"You must be aware, right? The video of you and the maid shopping at the mall this morning has gone viral on the internet. Everyone is saying that you're cheating on Miss Collins..."

Jasper furrowed his brows and took the phone handed to him by his secretary, only to see the news and messages online.

"Is Jasper here?" Hearing the sound outside, Madam Foster directly spoke loudly, "What are you doing standing outside?"

Jasper handed the phone back to his secretary and instructed him to pour two cups of tea before pushing the door open and walking in.

Inside the office, Madam Foster sat upright in the main seat, leaning on her cane, with a serious and imposing expression as she looked at him.

Standing behind her was Molly, her eyes swollen.

The man smiled faintly, "Grandma."

Though he was always cold and indifferent in front of others, Madam Foster was his own grandmother, the one who had watched him grow up. He had always respected and loved the old lady.

"Don't think that I'm not willing to come find you!" Madam Foster snorted coldly, "With something like this happening, if I didn't come find you, you wouldn't come to admit your mistake! What's the deal with the video and the news online? Molly has been engaged to you for a whole five years! She's a public figure, and anything related to her will be used against her! As her fiancé, not only did you not help her, you even went shopping with another woman as if it's nothing? Do you know how negatively this has affected her?"

Jasper took the tea handed to him by the secretary and placed it in front of Madam Foster and responded, "She's just a maid from the house. I asked her to accompany me to buy groceries, that's all."

"Buy groceries?" Madam Foster knocked the ground fiercely with her cane, "Since when do you have to worry about such things? Don't give me excuses! How long has it been since your house had a young maid after Adeline passed away? Suddenly, one emerges, and you're accompanying her to buy groceries?"

After saying that, Madam Foster snorted coldly, "If she's just a maid, then make her leave right now, immediately!"
